  1. Interesting lineup kerjiggering around the lefty, with Luis Robert bumped up to fourth and AJ Ewing dropped all the way down to eighth.
  2. The Padres, as usual, are delaying the posting of their lineup until after evening vespers (update: full lineups now posted below), but today will be the Mets' Morel Awakening! He's packed his glove, too! Chuckmonkey Robbie Ray (LHP), 10-7, 3.28 ERA, 113 SO Lineup Fernando Tatis Jr. (R) RF Luis Rengifo (S) LF Manny Machado (R) 3B Ty France (R) 1B Jackson Merrill (L) CF Xander Bogaerts (R) SS Austin Hays (R) DH Freddy Fermin (R) C Jake Cronenworth (L) 2B Firemarmet Zac Thornton (LHP), 3-3, 2.78 ERA, 29 SO Lineup Francisco Lindor (S) SS Bo Bichette (R) 3B Luis Robert Jr. (R) CF Carson Benge (L) RF Francisco Alvarez (R) DH Christopher Morel (R) 1B Marcus Semien (R) 2B A.J. Ewing (L) LF Luis Torrens (R) C
  3. I don't know if he matches up with one of the clues, but I know Wes Gardner was one of the successful relievers with the '83 Lynchburg team.
  4. I remain ever fascinated by the 1983 Lynchburg Mets. There really should be a book about them while the principals are still alive.
  5. Butch supposedly had no warning in 1997 that the number on his back was going to be retired mid-game, but his status as the custodian of the number ended up giving him an ample opportunity to meet and remain close to the Rachel Robinson and the Robinson family, and after his career, he was usually a presence at Shea and Citi Field on Jackie Robinson Day.
  6. Well, there goes my winning streak. I want to say Dave Cochrane got protected after his 100-RBI season at Lynchburg, but he doesn't match up with any of the clues. Randall K. Myers Oh, wait. Cochrane does match up. Dave Cochrane.
  7. I kinda thought Bogaerts looked safe against the Ewing throw, and expected a challenge. Ironically, if they had started Luis Robert in left, to protect against his declining arm, the Mets maybe don't win this one.
  8. The Fielding Bible has him fifth on the team with five defensive runs saved. It is unclear (a) if that includes yesterday evening, or (b) how much to make of that.
  9. He's the author of a lot of walks, but even more groundballs, and his name is Doug Sisk.
  10. Reviews of last evening's performance by Padres' third base coach Bob Henley are ... not friarly. Fun Fact: This is Henley's first season on the baselines for the Padres. He joined the organization in the offseason as a replacement for the team' 2025 third base coach ... Tim Leiper.
  11. If they took half of those games, they'd be tied with the Nats for fourth, and seven games behind the last WC spot. But hey, all we've got is the time we've got, and we've got the hottest team in the majors. Let us make what we can of that.
  12. Shhh .... I'm trying to steal this answer.
  13. Are you submitting Darling as an answer?
  14. As a righthanded alternative to Jorge Polanco — who is hitting .097 against lefties this season even after dropping one in yesterday — there's a good chance Morel is in the lineup this evening.
  15. I've been grabbing low-hanging fruit, so I'm going to go for a big one at the top of the tree — Eddie F. Williams, sent to Cincy in the Bruce Berenyi deal and cursed to never be a Met.
  16. Keith Hernandez had to be protected in order for the Mets to retain future rights to his broadcast skills.
  17. Think of all the fantasy baseball players and prediction market players who bought high on Josh Baez after his first game, rending shirts and gnashing teeth after his second. Card collectors! Memorabilia collectors! Busted!
  18. Junior "Don't Call Me Papi" Ortiz.
  19. William Hayward Wilson is your second MLB outfielder.
  20. Mets undefeated since calling up Christopher Morel.
  21. The Nats had the night off, so the Mets pull within three games of that sweet, sweet fourth-place plateau. Twelfth place league-wide, too. IT'S RIGHT THERE FOR THE TAKING! OE: And hey, in the bigger picture, if you're there, it's these Padres holding onto that last Wild Card spot, so the Mets knock of a game there, and pull within 10 in the race.
