  1. I would suggest that it was less than a fiasco, but certainly a blunder. I think it's important that the Carter and Mays cases be held as distinct from one another.
  2. Two games in a row. I would not conclude much from it. And the good — it was longer than a week.
  3. Frank Howard fans on Twitter are going to be pissed.
  4. Well, that homer after walking up to "Forever Young" is insult and injury.
  5. Juan Soto is decorating the Washington night sky. I'm certain that the Mets can finish over .500.
  6. On seeing that Baty walk, it's worth noting that the Mets didn't walk at all last night. But a visit from The Dark Fairy of Grounding into Double Plays ends that.
  7. Austin Warren + Carson Benge + Hayden Senger = OUT!! Now is the PERFECT time for a Peerless Broiler!
  8. Mets pumping the breaks on that all-rookie outfield, but the rookie starting pitcher is a go. METS Starting Pitcher: Zach Thornton LHP 0-0, -.-- ERA Lineup Carson Benge (L) RF Bo Bichette (R) SS Juan Soto (L) LF Mark Vientos (R) 1B MJ Melendez (L) DH Brett Baty (L) 3B Marcus Semien (R) 2B A.J. Ewing (L) CF Hayden Senger (R) C WASHINGTON Starting Pitcher: Zack Littell RHP 2-4, 6.10 ERA Lineup James Wood (L) DH Curtis Mead (R) 3B Andrés Chaparro (R) 1B CJ Abrams (L) SS Dylan Crews (R) RF Daylen Lile (L) LF Jacob Young (R) CF Nasim Nuñez (S) 2B Keibert Ruiz (S) C
  9. And I thought I was mostly just being a jerk.
  10. Gonzaga High School's own Nick Morabito debuting in his home town.
  11. He looked like such and intelligent young man who'd want to buy an eight. I blame Puma and Howie Rose. They should have kept their cool.
  12. The best part is that it is happening near the start of a road trip. If they sprung it on people at a home game, the toilets would clog from all the 60-year-old white guys taking angry shits, and they might take it out on the player. Here, it happens on the road, and hopefully by the time the team gets back home, he has a handful of games under his belt, maybe a few hits, and maybe a stolen base or two. Howie Rose won't even be calling the game to make a note of it and the Mets' other two radio broadcasters are too young to even remember Carter. It would have been easier if they stuck it on the back of an Austin Slater or Andy Ibáñez first, though.
  13. Holy shit! Just like that!
  14. Morab in the lineup. Ewing riding pine against the lefty. METS Starting Pitcher: Nolan McLean (RHP), 2-2, 2.92 ERA Lineup: Carson Benge (L) RF Bo Bichette (R) SS Juan Soto (L) DH Mark Vientos (R) 1B Marcus Semien (R) 2B Tyrone Taylor (R) CF Nick Morabito (R) LF Brett Baty (L) 3B Luis Torrens (R) C WASHINGTON Starting Pitcher: Foster Griffin (LHP), 4-2, 3.53 ERA Lineup: James Wood (L) RF Luis García Jr. (L) 1B José Tena (L) DH CJ Abrams (L) SS Daylen Lile (L) LF Dylan Crews (R) CF Jorbit Vivas (L) 3B Drew Millas (S) C Nasim Nuñez (S) 2B
  15. For what it's worth, Daniel Duarte hasn't pitched in a week, and so is as fresh as a daisy. They man end up adding somebody else before game time as well.
  16. It's looked like he had a pretty standard progression to me. Like Ewing, he hasn't shown much power, but his on-base/speed/defense combo is more exciting than power from where I sit. Two added Ewing-based boni: As Ewing is no longer the new kid, it kind of takes the pressure off of him, sort of how Ewing's arrival may or may not have taken some of the weight off of Benge. And if they want to move AJ to the top of the lineup, they can do it without it being a thing. Morabito joining the team and batting seventh or eighth would be the bigger deal. Thornton and Duarte draw some of that new-kid attention away also. With four of their five outfielders capable of playing a better-than-decent center, it provides more room perhaps to get an occasional look at Ewing at second. Both he and Ewing come with a 70 run tool, and Benge probably isn't far behind, so it could potentially be a lot of fun to watch.
  17. Mets Roster Central apologizes for providing no hot roster change action as our computer is in the shop.
  18. More a-Bito and less a-Slater. This was kind of foreshadowed when Taylor entered the game Sunday in what had been the spot that they had been a-using Slater.
  19. I think the software just identifies such pitches as curveballs. Arc-ed lobs from slow-pitch softball is indeed a better description, even if they are overhand.
  20. The Marlins win also, keeping the Mets out of the coveted 12th place spot. In the division, however, Washington, Miami, and Mets are all within a game and a half of each other. The 12th-inning run barrage also closes the Mets' run differential on the season to -7.
