  1. Even if they show you the plan?
  2. I think it's better than even money that he goes down before the sun does.
  3. Well, I didn't deliver victory here. At all.
  4. Good call. I'm crazy about this guy. Want satisfying results? Adopt your guys while they're still in the DSL. Lara goes today against Charelston. Battle of beloved, quaint southern cities with first-place on the line.
  5. And at home. I'll come out in support of the Ankiel acquisition.
  6. Seven total bases for Ankiel.
  7. Fuck yeah. The Murphy side is turning this baby around.
  8. So, that Murphy guy can do it, huh? It's like an epic tug of war between Murphy and Davis for the soul of this offense.
  9. I'm sorta counting on this being a low point. And not a long one neither. Come on, Valdespin.
  10. Swan Swan H wrote: Duda taking a lot of pitches, including strike three. Ankiel still at third. Not a good showing by Lucasio there.
  11. A feral lead is a nice omen. One in captivity is the beast I seek.
  12. A pretty big showing comes from the 1983 Tides. Gardenhire, Hurdle, and (someday probably) Backman and Oquendo.
  13. Easy to imagine Davis's big-league status not surviving today if it's another disaster. Series closer and all. I'm rooting for him. I'm rooting for his ass to not fly out toward the dugout.
  14. Scott was wonderful that day. And I kinda felt like I knew he had it in him.
  15. Why isn't Charlie O'Brien managing? He's too busy marketing signature high-end deer hunting products. If you remember Charlie O'Brien the athlete as fondly as I do, well then, you know he wouldn't sell you 100% pure doe estrus that isn't 100% PURE. I read recently that deer hunting has never been easier in America, and ironically, has never been more expensive. The need for an edge and the increasing importance of cultural immersion has created this bizarre top shelf of boutique buck-huntin' shit that Charlie O'Brien's company is but one small part of. Big expos of new products rolled out each year in major and minor cities.
  16. The 1990 Mets have no managers to speak of? That's a shame. Stop keeping Magadan down. And Charlie O'Brien, needs to get off his ass stop staring at that Sports Illustrated cover he has framed on the wall. Come on, Tom O'Malley!
  17. Joe McEw and Jay Bell will definitely manage. Among guys who haven't hit the MLB coaching ranks yet? Jos Valentn. I'd follow that guy anywhere and so would you. And you, and you. I'd consider all three as feasible future Flushing fodder too.
  18. At least give him some Vegas time. They've been rotating infielders from other positions over to first for two months now. Unlike Barton, he hasn't yet been promoted to a level he couldn't hang at, but yeah, nice analog. OE: They both even bat left and throw right.
  19. Teufel in that mix also. Oquendo and maybe a few others. Mets Currently on Major League Coaching Staves, Who Haven't Yet Managed at the Big-League Level Rick Anderson, Pitching Coach, Minnesota Jay Bell, Hitting Coach, Pittsburgh Willie Blair, Bullpen Coach, San Diego Daryl Boston, 1b Coach, Chicago (A) Reid Cornelius, Bullpen Coach, Miami Dave Eiland, Pitching Coach, Kansas City Steve Henderson, Hitting Coach, Philadelphia Doug Henry, Bullpen Coach, Kansas City Wayne Kirby, 1b Coach, Baltimore Dave Magadan, Hitting Coach, Texas Roger McDowell, Gaybashing Pitching Coach, Atlanta Joe McEwing, 3b Coach, Chicago (A) Jose Oquendo, 3b Coach, St. Louis Jason Phillips, Bullpen Catcher, Seattle Luis Rivera, 3b Coach, Toronto Ray Searage, Pitching Coach, Pittsburgh Tony Tarasco, Hitting Coach, Washington Tim Teufel, 3b Coach, Mets Pete Walker, Pitching Coach, Toronto
  20. Just learned that original 1962 Mets coach Solly Hemus is still on that planet at 90 years. That has to make him the oldest living uniform personnel from the team.
  21. Crazy thought, but how about calling up Alan Dykstra and his .436 OBP from AA? He's clearly considered a non-prospect as he's 26 and spending his third straight season in AA, and we probably need somebody who can give us extra-base hits more than somebody who gets on base, but... he really gets on base.
  22. He didn't leave with a 1-0 lead. Brian Bogusevic led off with a homer for Iowa. He got the next two guys and left after walking his last batter, who Edgin allowed to score on a pair of singles. Five strikeouts and one (fatal) walk, plus four hits in 6 2/3 innings. Very nice, overall. Unfortunately his teammates weren't generating any more offense (three hits) than the parent club. Managed five runs (all in the sixth inning) in the nightcap, but lost that one, 6-5. Zach Lutz: starting to hit a little.
  23. Seattle guys get some decent OPS+ numbers out of some otherwise pedestrian-looking stat lines. That must be one offense-oppressing ballpark.
  24. I dunno. I guess the fact that he's named after an old guy's drink is what dud it for me. Every time I see his name at the UMDB, I think of him as a manager more than as a player. Norm Sherry is the name of a guy you'd expect to hang out with Dean Martin.
