  1. Somebody punch Harvey in the nose.
  2. Mike Morse? No f'n' way. Hunter Pence? Over my dead body. Just thought I'd get that out of the way and narrow things down a little bit more.
  3. Was that the guy you thought would come last? Funny. I had long known four 1962 Mets had become managers, but I couldn't for the life of me think of the last one.
  4. Free Agent Outfielders are B'low Starry dudes have options. 5. Niese has done a fine job righting himself, but I'm not too sure I let him hit there. I'm certain I don't let him go up there first-pitch swinging.
  6. I'd say that exchanging merchandise without bothering to run it through a salesperson... is really kinda more embarrassing than "I have psychological issues that I need to get under control."
  7. Sandy Alomar, Jr. finished a season for Indians in recent years.
  8. Does the brief off-season tenure of Wally Backman count?
  9. Fatalism'll kill ye.

  11. Norm Sherry. Take that, Juan Samuel!
  12. Juan Samuel. Take that, Al Pedrique.
  13. seawolf17 wrote: Beltran's closest B-R similarity score comparison: Andre Dawson. Probably his closest knee comparison, too. Beltran was a great Met, whose memory is sadly sullied by the Mets carrying him through a couple of injury years. I imagine all resigning him would do would be to give fuel to the haters by piling a couple of decline years onto that legacy. If the team had every damn piece in place for certain, save one, then yeah, I'd enjoy entertaining the return of Beltran. I think they are awesome, but a lot is far from certain.
  14. Maybe, but does evidence really suggest that Beltran will be better than Choo over the next couple of years, Hall of Fame or no?
  15. Double header today in Iowa. Montero gets the day game
  16. Gotta give a special donut to Rick Anderson, sent down at the very end of August 19896 to get Kevin Elster eligible for the post-season roster as Rafael Santana insurance. They had gone all year with the likes of Mitchell and Johnson backing up at shortstop, getting so far ahead so early that it never occurred to them up until that point (does it occur to anybody) to file for Rafael Santana insurance. Anderson probably never even went down except on paper, but rather got recalled with the September roster expansion. He stayed with the team as batting practice pitcher and probably got a full post-season share. I guess it would have been cool if the Beatles kept Pete Best around as a drum technician roadie.
  17. Xavier Nady, too, who was invited to the clinching party while the Mets were playing the Pirates, and instead helped the Pirates delay their clinching for several days.
  18. "No, seriously. Yogi really wants you around."
  19. The problem with the Sheffy comparisons is that period of consistency and peak productivity coincided with the period when all the rules were out the window.
  20. Playing Mets scrabble and have a rack loaded with A's? Play "Andrea Aardsma."
