  1. I think he catcherized enough. Hit enough? Uhn-uh.
  2. 2013 Guys: Ike Davis Lucas Duda Josh Satin Justin Turner Daniel Murphy Zach Lutz Andrew Brown 2014 Leading Internal Candidates: Ike Davis Josh Satin 2014 Potential Position Switchers: Lucas Duda Daniel Murphy Zach Lutz All appeared at first in 2013, but were primarily stationed elsewhere. Any of them might potentially find first to be a primary assignment, depending on where the chips fall. 2014 Fringey Internal Candidates: Wilmer Flores Eric Campbell Allan Dykstra (heal fast!) You Snooze, You Lose: Adam Lind (.288 / .357 / .497 // .854 in 521 PA - 132 OPS+) Signed by Blue Jays (picked up opton) 1 year, 7 mllion Remaining Free Agents: Mike Napoli (.259 / .360 / .482 // .842 in 578 PA - 129 OPS+) Corey Hart (.270 / .334 / .507 // .841 in 622 PA - 120 OPS+ in 2012) Kendrys Morales (.277 / .336 / .449 // .785 in 657 PA - 123 OPS+) James Loney (.299 / .348 / .430 // .778 in 598 PA - 118 OPS+) Mike Morse (.215 / .270 / .381 // .651 in 337 PA - 84 OPS+) Justin Morneau (.259 / .323 / .411 // .734 in 635 PA - 103 OPS+) Paul Konerko (.244 / .313 / .355 // .669 in 520 PA - 80 OPS+) Mark Reynolds (.220 / .306 / .393 // .699 in 504 PA - 96 OPS+) Jeff Baker (.279 / .360 / .545 // .905 in 175 PA - 143 OPS+) Carlos Pena (.207 / .321 / .346 // .668 in 328 PA - 86 OPS+) Casey McGehee (.217 / .284 / .358 // .643 in 352 PA - 77 OPS+) Lyle Overbay (.240 / .295 / .393 // .688 in 486 PA - 87 OPS+) Casey Kotchman (.000 / .048 / .000 // .048 in 21 PA - -85 OPS+; 2012 Numbers: .229 / .280 / .333 // .612 in 500 PA - 72 OPS+) Yuniesky Betancourt (.212 / .240 / .355 // .595 in 49 PA - 60 OPS+) Seems the Mets could gobble up a bunch of ex-Dodgers or a bunch of ex-Brewers. The 2013 Yankees have also generously donated a bunch of names to this list. Anyhow, a lot of options remain available, and perhaps a good chance to get creative, but making it perhaps not the best season for the Mets to be flush with underwhelming options at first. How do you see/would you like the see the things playing out at first for the team?
  3. 2013 Guys: John Buck Anthony Recker Travis d'Arnaud Juan Centeno 2014 Leading Internal Candidates: Travis d'Arnaud Anthony Recker Juan Centeno 2014 Fringey Internal Candidates: Landon Powell Kai Gronauer Xorge Carillo You Snooze, You Lose: Brian McCann (.256 / .336 / .461 // .796 in 356 PA - 115 OPS+), 30 years old Signed by Yankees for 5 years, $85MM Brayan Pena (.297 / .315 / .397 // .713 in 243 PA - 91 OPS+), 32 Signed by Reds for 2 years, $2.275MM (11/8/13) Jose Molina (.233 / .290 / .304 // .594 in 313 PA - 68 OPS+), 39 Signed by Rays - 2 years, $4.5MM (11/24/13) Geovany Soto (.245 / .328 / .466 // .794 in 184 PA - 114 OPS+), 31 Signed by Rangers - 1 year, $3.05MM (11/5/13) Carlos "Chooch" Ruiz (.268 / .320 / .368 // .688 in 341 PA - 90 OPS+), 35 Signed by Phillies - 3 years, $26MM (11/18/13) Remaining Free Agents: Kurt Suzuki (.232 / .290 / .337 // .627 in 316 PA - 73 OPS+), 30 years old Jarrod Saltalamacchia (.278 / .338 / .466 // .804 in 470 PA - 118 OPS+), 29 A.J. Funny to see Hernandez and Torrealba both on the list. Didn't the Mets offer both of them contracts, like, eight years ago, before trading for Lo Duca? Saltalamacchia is one of those knows-how-to-win guys we're supposed to be going for. Isn't there something disgraceful and/or racist on that guy's ledger? Anyhow, how do you see/want to see the 2014 catcher picture emerging?
  4. I think the home office missed the memo from the field. Had headquarters known early how this guy was equal parts superlative athlete and supergimmicky popstar nutso, then he wouldn't have ended up spending his pre-game afternoons and post-game late nights in his hotel desperately trying to find Japanese restaurants that delivered, and instead been modeling sequined undershorts in discos, judging exotic pet contests, giving awkwardly accented YOU-CAN-DO-IT-TOO! advice to unpopular teens on Nickolodeon shows, issuing winking denials about his relationship with Monica Bellucci, garnering the adulation that surely would have invigorated his game. Let him wear goofy collars and alphanumeric-display belt buckles, and then deny it later, betraying him publicly, but totally turning him into cause celebre, a beloved rebel of nonsense pop individuality, with Fred and Steve Phillips playing the big bad heavies and Bobby playing the bemused, at-his-wit's-end mediator. Indulge his bullshit, while pretending to be infuriated by it, in order to motivate him to prove he's not all bullshit. That, I retroactively say, was the ticket. 5. Oh, and I'll go with: Craig Biggio Jeff Bagwell Barry Bonds Greg Maddux Edgar Martinez Mike Piazza Tim Raines Curt Schilling Frank Thomas Alan Trammell That's 10, and there's a lot more I could be convinced on. I'm sure I could be talked out of Bonds, but I'm pretty OK with the narrative that he went roidy after 1998 and he's still one of the top 10-20 players ever if he doesn't. Among known/established users, I look at him as 20% fraud. Sosa, I feel, is like 77% fraud. McGwire is like 52%, and Canseco, perhaps 89%. Sounds arbitrary? Maybe, but it's not altogether uninformed. i gotta cut a lot of good candidates down to 10.
  6. Meanwhile Deadspin has gone to great lengths [crossout]to empower fans[/crossout] [crossout]to subvert the process[/crossout] [crossout]to make a point that needs making[/crossout] do something.
  7. "Oh... I could be coaxed."
  8. The guy is a walking cartoon. No mystery there.
  9. Guyz I'm surprised have been out of the game long enough to qualify: Sean Casey Ray Durham Eric Gagne Paul Lo Duca Gagne is a double whammy, as I'm also surprised he was in the game long enough to qualify.

  11. <3 him or h8 him, you'll never forget Tusyoshi Shinjo, self-promoting maniac.
  12. I was thinking Mike Crawfish.
  13. Rotten tomatoes: Fans: 68% Critics: 10% Wow.
  14. I'm glad you're OK, Steve. No more drunkposting, OK?
  15. So, given that we have the cheaper, younger, reputably cleaner, funnier, and more familiar model on hand... . You just wonder if he's going to be a Met that magic day Lucas wakes up and suddenly realizes... holy crap, this game is easy!
  16. I just hope Steve pokes his head up soon.
  17. "It is high, It is far ..... OH, YES..... HE..... McCANN! I'm sorry... I'm sorry. The ballgirl down the leftfield line picked it up. She's flipping it to a fan."

Still not yet 30 y/o (will be in February) - he was essentially a full-timer at age 21 so it seems like he's been around longer. Hasn't played as many as 130 games since 2009 although the DH spot will help there. Of course he'll have to compete for time with the others seven DHs on that team. Name that John Sterling homerun call.
  19. Former Met minor leaguer Llllllloyd McClllllendon.
  20. Ceetar wrote: Edgy MD wrote: We all know that there's no indication that Alderson has looked at this guy at all, right? We know that this is only here because I posted in response to a late night weekend report in which Rubin quotes a neutral party saying this guy might be somebody the Mets would be interested in, right? Rubin's infallible. I'm pretty sure Decker's already scored an invite to Alderson's Thanksgiving dinner. The only way this reflects on Rubin is positively.
  21. Steve put "plan" and "direction" in quotes. If this guy is neither the plan or direction, I'm not sure what to believe now.
  22. David Aardsma has also made some comments to that effect. I understand your feelings, guys, but take it to the union.
