  1. Nice bonus: the precinct commander for Mellisa McCarthy's character was played by Biff Tannen.
  2. With regard to Beltran, I was just doing a thought experiment there. Wanted to use him to measure just how tough a risk that fourth year to Granderson was.
  3. Yeah, while Beltran's bet is probably more reliable and less likely to degrade precipitously, his knee is a miracle of science and one quick jump away from exploding on him.
  4. Oops... not actually on the roster anymore is Hansel Robles. Was exposed to (and cleared) waivers when they signed Chris Young. That's five open slots on the roster. Really bracing for a flurry of moves come the winter meetings (if not sooner).
  5. That kind of runs against your "it's just money, and it's not mine" comment above, though. If the per-year money's the same, would you go with Beltran for three or Granderson for four?
  6. Hi, I'm Pirates GM Neal Huntington. You may remember me from... well, last year's post-season. I just thought I'd take this moment to remind the world that I locked up Andrew McCutchen early and he's mine through 2018. Take it easy.
  7. I don't sweat that stuff. For every team that grows richer, at least one other grows poorer.
  8. Hey! You know who woke up with smiles on their faces this morning? Josh Satin and Freddie Tovar, that's who. Them's your new favorites to be Mets infield subs. One for offense and one for defense. Happy Hannukah, men.
  9. No multiple guessing, bitch. Skip Lockwood.
  10. Wore 17 and played with Gary Carter, but not on the Mets. Gonna drive me bonkers.

Hits 32 homers in 660 at bats in 2011. Hits 33 in 2,252 the rest of his career. And what's with Cashman's little fetish? Every time the Sox win a championship, you've got to go out and make a stupid offer to steal their sweet-assed centerfielder? Really? Both times it's been a guy with a name that actually sounds like a Boston neighborhood, too.

  13. Our condition being "having one already" and "hopefully savvy enough or tempered-by-experience enough to realize the closer marketplace is a fool's paradise."
  14. Hmmm... Is Beltran worth to you and your Mets 1.87 Chris Youngs. Yes, I feel relatively safe saying that. Will he be worth that each of the next three years? Hurm...
  15. Two is harder. I'll go with Watson. Dunston. Um, Bonilla. My brain hurts.
  16. Last pre-1994 Pirate? Barry Bonds. Last pre-1994 Cub? Um, Moyer. Gotta be, right? Last pre-1994 Cardinal? Rheal Cormier.
  17. Orioles get 101 saves in two years from Jimmy Johnson (got to be one of the best two-season totals ever, right?), and move him late last night for... fading infield prospect Jemile Weeks. A PtBNL is also due to be added. I'm guessing it won't be Josh Donaldson, but it better be something good, because Orioles fans are looking for Duquette's head. This is a strange name for what I guess is a thread devoted to offseason trades.
  18. I'm not looking necessarily for continuous service, just for any active dudes who played in the bigs before Bush was first inaugurated. I'm treating 2000 as a 20th Century year. Guys like Contreras and Suzuki --- who played in the top league in another country and were restricted from advancing to MLB --- probably deserve a consolation prize.
  19. You're the worst TITTS chairman ever! Really, this isn't about proposing anything. The deal is done so this is just an exercise of what-would-be-the-equivalent-Metly-package-and-would-we-have-happily-paid-it. If, then, the equivalent is Turner/Edgin/Matz, we get an emotional NO! from Vic Sage. That's alright.
  20. So, in Scratch-That-Itch Theater, what's the Mets equivalent of that package? Justin Turner, Josh Edgin, and Jake deGrom? Seems like Ray is a better asset than deGrom, but perhaps less than Montero. Matz maybe?
  21. With Todd Helton's and Mariano Rivera's Andy P's retirements, I'm counting X remaining ballplayers from the 20th century: I'm probably missing many more, but so far, I've got.
