  1. I would speculate that the relative lack of artificial turf has meant that they have decreased, along with the big turf bounces that facilitate them, but perhaps in post-artificial turf era, walls are being built lower. Thinking here of walls in places like Houston and Philadelphia that were seemingly built 12-15' when 8-10' wold have sufficed, but they wanted to keep big-bouncing balls in play. The closer-outfield-side-wall thing is a great point. I dislike those.
  2. In doing it, Terry also ended up forcing his own hand on the Duda-at-cleanup issue, and Duda has responded, if only in the shortest of short hauls. Necessity is not only the mother of invention. Sometimes it's the mother of strategic courage.
  3. Stupid Angels.

Toys! Toys! In the attic! I'm suddenly attracted to the notion of thinking of a surfeit of not-ready-or-particularly-close, high-ceiling prospects as... likenable perhaps to a collection of toys in the attic.
  5. Strange to realize after all the team has been through (and put themselves and yourselves through) in recent weeks --- the slogfest at Philly, the double sweeps, including one to the Cubs, the bigshot catching prospect playing himself back to the farm, the bigshot pitching prospect being wilder than a jungle movie, the star thirdbaseman enjoying the mother of all slumps, two leadoff hitters in a row getting disabled, and two old and overweight Venezuelans who you thought a year ago were out of baseball emerging as, for now, the team's two most reliable players --- the Mets could still find themselves four and a half games out of first tonight if the Angels do their angelic duty and hang on for the win over Atlanta (Anaheim currently up 3-0). 6. Let's just say I'm in no hurry to cross witnessing the violent death of a pitcher off my personal bucket list. Shane Bay should be far away from Jamaica Bay by now. Dude first appeared in 2011, but can't seem to stay healthy or gain any roster traction or something. Dude totaled only 30 innings over his first three seasons.
  8. So, how far are you willing to take this batgrandersonleadoff experiment?
  9. Kablammo.
  10. Keep hitting it to Duda!
  11. For instance, they wrote about KC and his neighbor problems on Thursday. And last weekend, they had a big spread on the marathon twins.
  12. Just realized both teams are wearing shoulder patches honoring malaprop-launching longtime broadcasters.
  13. Well, Zack Thornton should be here in 2015, if he doesn't pitch himself out of baseball first.
  14. Duda maybe kinda hopefully finding his extra base stroke.
  15. In the book, that's a clean inning for Wilmer Flores. Twice in one inning, a Padre quits on a play early, only to both times allow Wilmer Flores a second crack at a play he screwed up. That's the sort of thing that should make a manager cranky.
  16. I want to be generous, Kevin Quackenbush, but your beard isn't helping. Hey, G-FAFIF, he's from USF!
  17. If you can't get a game story in, you get a lightweight feature holding its place until the game story is ready. This is the way of things. But otherwise, it's all right. It's O.K. You may look the other way. We can try to understand the New York Times' effect on man.
  18. We HAVE to get into the office of one of those new Mets marketing execs and start lobbying for a MWH postgame show.
  19. Sure, Men Without Hats had multiple songs of multiple excellent qualities. " " them. If MWH was performing at Citi Field, you can bet I'd be flying up there in my Mazda right NOW!!!! Every time I wonder Where the world went wrong End up lying on my face Going ringy-dingy-ding-dong And every time I wonder If the world is right End up in some disco Dancing all night
  20. I have a huge desire to turn people into what they are not, especially when what they are is somebody threatening to hit other people in the ear with a thrown baseball on behalf of my team, when he's clinically unable to back up that threat, and it's emasculating to his old teammates, who, he implies, are not as brave and warlike as him. It's a douche move eight ways to Sunday, and not a little embarrassing.
  21. Been a while since the ol' pinch-hitting manager trick. Oooooh, lefthanded catcher/lefthanded infielder.
  22. batmagadanleadoff wrote: The media has to gripe about the Mets because it's their job, but I can't believe that rational adults, smart Mets fans are still complaining about Alderson and the 2014 Mets. You really can't believe that?
  23. Well that's one, bubs.
  24. There's a word for people spoiling for violence, bragging about their desire to take part in a fight they know physically can't happen. Well, there are probably a bunch of words.
  25. What's Abreu still out there for? He should have been elected to walk Colon to the clubhouse.
