  1. Dos Hilarios in the Mets' system. One is going to Scottsdale. One is hoping his career is going to be able to continue.
  2. Might be a good idea, while both Wright and Muff are gimping, to get Eric Young some PT in the infield.
  3. Lagares had no business catching that ball. No centerfielder does.
  4. Has it really been established, or even speculated by anybody close to the situation, that Wright is damaging himself or meaningfully threatening any portion of his future by remaining active?
  5. No Wright, no Murphy
  6. That's great stuff. Loved the embedded video. Bob Murphy and everything. Driving back over the Harlem River Drive later in the night to my hotel near LaGuardia Airport, I stared at the New York skyline, still amazed at my first day in the big leagues. The wonderful Mets fans, their cheers, their smiles, their clapping. It was one of the greatest nights of my life.
  7. Well, while we're distinguishing "star" from "superstar," we might want to distinguish "model" from "supermodel." Wouldn't want Molly to get a big head. I'm going to come out against a shutdown unless it's medically warranted.
  8. I think the Mets were right in saying they were going ahead with their plan with or without Matt Harvey, and they would do well to position themselves going forward with few assumptions about Wright's productivity. Part of that, of course, is Terry being willing to bounce him around the order as needed or swap him out of the lineup as necessary. Give him no more than a modest amount of deference. I imagine he wouldn't ask for that, and frankly, when you're still getting that deference but not performing, it increasingly gets embarrassing. Lou Gehrig said he decided to end his streak when he made what he thought was a routine play in the field and his teammates were congratulating him for it. The manager was giving him deference, starting him every day and batting him fifth, but he was embarrassed, and had to take himself out.
  9. Yeah, I know his big day came against Houston, but the photo was too good not to share. I figured it would be minutes before I got called out on it. Where's that interview somebody posted a year or two ago of Benny recalling his debut? Notable he was a barely marginal shuttle player before Earl Weaver got his hands on the guy.
  10. [fimg=200]http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cByxUS3vmcY/UPYvttwG3bI/AAAAAAAAn1g/dOGk-6QIFgk/s320/benny%2Bayala%2B%25282%2529.JPG[/fimg]
  11. That's a complex part of waivers that doesn't get discussed --- the notion that, if you clear waivers you are demonstrably unwanted. It isn't apparently always so.
  12. Strange one happening on Staten Island as the Cyclones and Baby Yanks go to extra innings tied 1-1. Michael Comforto has two hits and nailed a guy at the plate in the eighth. The lone Yankee run came through a Tyler Moore error and a wild pitch by Alberto Baldanado. Really strange part is that Jhoan Urena was ejected before the game's first pitch.
  13. What a pregnant beat that was. "Somebody dropped a penny between Josh and his (oh-my-God-I'm-never-going-to-land-this-I'm-going-to-come-across-as-a-huge-asshole-and-my-wife-told-me-to-stick-to-one-beer-until-the-broadcast-is-over-and-I-pray-no-one-is-left-listening-but-somebody-probably-is)... family member."
  14. Well, then, double your pleasure, and ask him to bunt against the shift, but only against lefties.
  15. Lewin closes out a preseason NFL broadcast taking an anti-Jewish crack right on the chin. "Love ya, too, Buddy."
  16. If the A's claimed him and didn't want the contract, they could probably flip it quickly enough. Andrew Lambo, caught in limbo with the Pirates, you want to be a Met?
  17. Most Homers as a Firstbaseman by a Met 1. Carlos Delgado, 2006: 38 2. Dave Kingman, 1982: 37 3. Carlos Delgado, 2008: 35 4. Ike Davis, 2012: 32 5. Eddie Murray, 1993: 27 6. 18. How can Du-wop be having this awesome second half and the rest of the team coming up craps? He's had good second acts before, hasn't he?
  19. Does Duda have a brother?
  20. EY steals bases and, occasionally, homers.
  21. Speaking of firsts, Miguel Rojas' MLB debut as an outfielder.
  22. First hit since 2008 for Buddy Carlyle.
  23. He's probably a defensive plus at first, even at third, and a defensive minus at second.
  24. Welcome Backman to TMT, making his 2014 debut today.
  25. Yasiel Puig is a force of nature. You can flee from it, you can submit to it, or maybe you can try to channel it for brief instants. But it's folly to think you can control it. Duda going through the 5-6 hole and then d'Arnaud going the other way later in the inning thrills me even more than the homer surge.
