  1. I want Bartolo Colon to leadoff and play SS. That's one. It's two, in fact!
  2. The best way to protect both and still play baseball as far I'm concerned, if he can make the catch before the runner arrives, caveat auceps. If he can't, he better get out of the way before the runner makes contact. And if he doesn't, the runner is safe and he's tossed. If he's out of the way, but the runner still sees fit to initiate contact, then toss the runner and call him out.
  3. I could think of worse ideas.
  4. As far as I'm concerned, if the catcher has ceded the "lane" at any point prior to collision, he's in compliance with the rule.
  5. Well, perhaps they have to be perfect when the pitching matchup is favoring the other guys. That hadn't been happening a lot the previous month, but sure happened this series. More generally, they just have to be better.
  6. Well, I'm ready to give Sandy the Executive of the Year Award.
  7. Vic Sage wrote: so you think that if Terry was really serious about winning, he'd be playing Tejada and Eric Young every day? No. Vic Sage wrote: He'd have kept Abreu and C.Young on the roster? No. Vic Sage wrote: Please. Wait, you had assumed a yes to those questions, and weren't actually asking at all?
  8. Yeah, if the organization wants to go full on into play-for-next-year mode while they are seven and a half games out before they have a series at home against the first-place team, publickly announcing that this was the lineup they were rolling out come what may, because the rest of the season is about assessment, Terry really shouldn't be telling the team that they still need to believe in themselves. Not while he's demonstrated he no longer believes himself.
  9. It's weird stuff. The Mets were the most passive team in existence early in the season, walking like Egyptians, but not accomplishing too much else offensively. But the league responded, and started pouring in early fastballs to routinely put the Mets in the hole. Then shortly after the batting coach turnover, they pivoted. They started attacking early, particularly the early fastballs, and the results showed, particularly for Duda. But it seems maybe the league has adjusted again, and is suckering the newly aggressive Mets into chasing early, and they're starting at-bats behind the 8-ball again.
  10. Out-walked by that margin, certainly.
  11. This WEEK is kinda suckin'.
  12. Let's hear what den Dekker's home run song is.
  13. We got that elusive walk. Baby steps. At this rate, we'll totally beat these guys by 2017.
  14. I'm not sure why this became the topic of the thread.
  15. Anyone here listening to Josh on the radio? He brought up a Met game vs the Cards that he said was a very important game and that's it's underrated by fans. He was talking about Matlack at the time, but also Gil Hodges. The reception was going in and out--was he referring to a game in 1969 or 1973? Or another year? Anyone here listening to Josh on the radio? He brought up a Met game vs the Cards that he said was a very important game and that's it's underrated by fans. He was talking about Matlack at the time, but also Gil Hodges. The reception was going in and out--was he referring to a game in 1969 or 1973? Or another year? On the radio now, but missed that conversation. Well, there was no Matlack in 1969, and no Hodges in 1973. The only time their careers overlapped was during 1971, during which Matlack went 0-3. Unless he was talking about Ron Hodges.
  16. I'm still a little flubbered that Sandy wasn't a finalist. I thought for sure that fixing the Mets was his favor to the league and the big chair was to be his payback. Shows what I know.
  17. It's about pride here, boys. Show some of it.
  18. After two rounds of balloting, the twitters are announcing that Manfred is the man. I for one welcome our new alien overlord.
  19. You ever notice how, in comic strips, the person on the left always speaks first? -- George Carlin
  20. Baseball America calls him Number 13.
  21. Come on, Mets! Everybody knows when you're making up a fake name! It doesn't work anymore! The Mets agreed to terms with teenage infield prospect Kenny Hernandez for $1 million on Wednesday, according to an industry source. The club has not confirmed the agreement, and Hernandez cannot officially sign until his 16th birthday on Aug. 13. Hernandez, who ranks No. 27 on MLB.com's Top 30 International Prospects list, might have the best all-around swing in the entire class, and he's one of the top shortstops from Venezuela this year. Known for his good hands, strong wrists and quick-twitch action in the batter's box, the 6-foot, 160-pound Hernandez has good bat control, plate discipline and a fluid swing. What's more, Hernandez has shown gap power and the ability to drive the ball to the opposite field. He's athletic and has shown good footwork on defense, but it's unclear if he has the overall skill set to stay at shortstop. Hernandez is from Tumero, Venezuela, and he was trained by former Major League infielder Carlos Guillen at the Carlos Guillen Academy. In accordance to the Basic Agreement, each team is allotted a $700,000 base and a bonus pool based on the team's record in 2013 for the international signing period that started July 2. The Mets' bonus pool total for this year's signing period is $2,697,800. So welcome to the neighborhood, Wlmer Flores' lefthand-batting little brother.
  22. Now I bet they wish they took Sandy's offer of Logan Verrett, Juan Centeno, and a Jayson Werth gnome.
  23. No, it's an oldentimes case duan made.
  24. Give 'em Purgatory, Terry!!
