  1. My name is Juan Lagares and I'm your go-ahead run.
  2. My name is Curtis Granderson and I'm your tying run.
  3. Now, the double switch that makes sense, if they are going to go for a double switch, would be to put EY at second in the leadoff spot, and the pitcher in the eight-hole. Flores to short.
  4. Blurb.
  5. Tejada get to swing this inning? Got to let him, right?
  6. Seemed like a good pitch that Campbell just hit. See what we can do in the late innings with a Nieuwenhuis/Young/Recker bench.
  7. Hey, Wheels completes eight. Let's get them runzzz back!
  8. New levels of futility, nothing. Guys fail like him every year. Just didn't have a whole lot better at the position. Have we forgotten Jason Bay so soon?
  9. Daniel Murphy (calf), David Wright (neck/shoulder), Vic Black (neck) and Josh Edgin (elbow), all questionable. Mets may be working with a 21-man roster tonight.
  10. That's some weird, wild stuff right there.
  11. Officially done as a Met, signing a minor league deal with the Yankees. Hit .205, with 8 homers, in 88 games. Had his best games twice when he was reportedly on the verge of release. Hit Kuroda, and hit Scott Kazmir, and I've got to appreciate that much. Wouldn't have minded if the Mets kept him around until the Oakland series just to see if he could tag Kazzy one more time.
  12. I'm no scout, so I can only but speculate about how ready --- but I glean from reports that he'd get a September callup, but they don't want to burn a roster spot on him, as he doesn't have to be added to the roster in the offseason, so they'd like to preserve any spots they are able to clear in order to protect (from the Rule V draft and minor league free agency) players they have to protect. The same narrative likely holds true for Plawecki. Syndergaard has a better chance to get called up, because they might figure that getting him a taste of a big league clubhouse and a handful of innings may be worth more than the roster spot it costs. Else, expect the Mets to be decorating their September lineup with a splash of Brown Satin. Don't be surprised by some delicate Tea staining and a contrasting tacky pair of Dice.
  13. Bauer draws a suspension, although apparently it's just for the last pre-season game. I could be misreading that. Tellingly, it's not the station or the team or the league issuing the suspension, but Clear Channel, just so we know who's running the world these days.
  14. Wheeler taking down Teheran would be sweet. It'd be like that time that Mike Pelfrey outdueled Cole Hamels, and the Mets and Pelfrey went on to a five-year run as the class of the division while the Phillies and Hamels faded in denial and dysfunction. That totally happened, right?
  15. Andrew Brown sits at about 81, I think.
  16. MLB quickly digs up the archival game that Billy Crystal was referencing at the Emmys, visiting the booth promoting Comic Relief. Breaks my heart that this game is out there to be grabbed and SNY isn't finding a way to broadcast its like ALL THE TIME. The clip is relatively (and unfortunately) short. Zabriskie and McCarver are hosting Williams and Crystal. Big League Stew says it's understandable that Crystal would forget that Whoopi wasn't there. Maybe, but as soon as I saw that clip on the internet, and he referenced Whoopi, I (mentally) stood up and yelled "Whoopi wasn't there!"
  17. Ike totally will end up as a Yankee next year --- start off pinch-hitting and defensive replacing. Then an injury will force him into the lineup where a run of warm weather and short-porch feasting will give him a solid four-to-six weeks, with Yankee fans a-gloating, before he Overbays back to earth.
  18. Watched the end of that Boston-Toronto game last night. I'm sure it was mostly my perception, but the back-end pitchers didn't even seem to care. Almost seemed bothered to be woken up and put into the game.
  19. I haven't posted an update in a bit --- I've switched computers, and don't have my template on the new one --- but you know which direction your team has been going. But not last night. Last night, almost every good thing that could happen, happened, with the Mets winning, and every team in front of them in the division losing, as well as four of the teams in front of them in the wild card. Keep winning, Philly! Get with the program, Colorado! Madison Bumgarner totally garnered your bums last night and handed them to you. More eyes will be on rookie outfielder Jorge Soler, Cuban signee who has torn it up in the minors and is debuting for the Northside today. Beat them Reds, Cubbies.
  20. Philly helped out and knocked off the Nats, too, for the second straight game.
  21. Probably going to be one-three guys added to the roster: One fulltimer and one or two floaters. Paul Sewald: Anybody want to catch me up on that guy?
  22. I don't think Keith would have let Mejia off the hook for throwing a fastball over the plate 0-2, corner or no, but that double play was SUH-WEET.
  23. d'Arnaud + Laggy = 4-for-4 this evening.
  24. Well, it may be too late to matter, but the bat still plays better at second than in left.
  25. So, here's a way to cut 10 seconds or so off the replay rule. Designate a defensive captain (official title only for this purpose) as the guy who can approach the chief ump and stall the game so we don't have to wait on the manager to trotsky out there. If the offensive team wants to consider filing a challenge, one of the base coaches can take the case up while the manager and dugout staff considers whether they have a case.
