  1. There have been out-of-the blue seasons by vets, certainly (Ojeda, Gilkey, Dickey, Hundley) But among unheralded yoots coming in and making an unexpected splash, the main precedent I can think of is Cone.
  2. Sorry, meant to include a link.

Looks like it'll get worse before it gets better for Ron Washington. Wash appears have resigned under the cloud of a sexual assault investigation, supposedly involving a female reporter. Without mentioning any such accusations he has made a statement today appearing to acknowledge infidelity.
  5. That's totally the lucky Mrs. Kelly Shepardson Recker to right of Andy Whoever. I can't identify the others because there's only so long I can get away with a pile of women that big on my screen at work.
  6. I think second from left is Victoria Ahern Murphy. If correct, that gets us through the left half of the photo. Pretty sure we have Stacey Harris (not yet deGrom on the right) and Allyson Satin next to her.
  7. Metspouses visit the NYU Medical Center Pediatric Care Unit. Left to right that's... um... Kari Ann Gee, Victoria Murphy, Molly (Beers) Wright), Mister, Bethany (Bridges) Nieuwenhuis, Allyson Satin, and Stacey Harris (affianced of Jacob deGrom).
  8. That was a real hangerino from Penny, am I right?
  9. Hudson Gee, taking off.
  10. Nieuwie finally checks back into the lineup. [*:3i87xtmy]den Dekker, lf[/*:m:3i87xtmy] [*:3i87xtmy]Murphy, 3b[/*:m:3i87xtmy] [*:3i87xtmy]dArnaud, c[/*:m:3i87xtmy] [*:3i87xtmy]Duda, lf[/*:m:3i87xtmy] [*:3i87xtmy]Flores, 2b[/*:m:3i87xtmy] [*:3i87xtmy]Granderson, rf[/*:m:3i87xtmy] [*:3i87xtmy]Nieuwenhuis, cf[/*:m:3i87xtmy] [*:3i87xtmy]Tejada, ss[/*:m:3i87xtmy] [*:3i87xtmy]Gee, sp[/*:m:3i87xtmy][/list:o:3i87xtmy] Puzzle #1 asks why he's in center and upper Dekker in left. Puzzle #2 asks why Dilson sits two games in a row. I assume the team wants to get a look at Flores as a potential Murphy-replacer. But if this were April 1, I'd hope to rotate the whole outfield, with dD in center, Granderson in left, and Nieuwenhuis in right. But if this were April 1, I'd hope to have Lagares and maybe one or two others at my disposal.
  11. Anybody else notice that Keith's impatience and occasional bouts of intellectual laziness come more frequently when Ronnie's not around? I'd like to renew my request that, if they can't get all three of them in there for 162 games, then at least try a rotating cast of characters --- perhaps a few different pitchers to sit in during RJ's absences and a few different hitters to welcome during Keith's absences.
  12. That's why you cheat, and tweet and image of a longer thought.
  13. Go Bumgarner!
  14. I love that spellcheck has corrected "subpar" in your post to "subparagraph." Derek Jeter is totally subparagraph.
  15. Well, Reynolds would likely have to start the season at AAA, as having three shortstops really handicaps your bench. (Nobody to handle the Satin/Campbell job of right-handed alternative to Duda.) Important to consider about last night's productivity is that, while it may be representative of a bright beginning for Flores, it's probably as easily understood as a bitter end for Brad Penny.
  16. A really skilled and evil Met spinmeister could kill two PR birds with one stone and pin the logo tampering on Leigh Castergine, and that's why she got the axe. And have it leak out from sullen un-named sources, because the Mets are really too decent to say so officially.
  17. I imagine 80% of sideline reporters aren't guys at all.
  18. Playing Houston, too. But the Astros' September lineup may be stronger than their April-August lineup.
  19. Nymr83 wrote: really like this guy, even if his defense never justifies starting him full time i think we'll be happy to have him on the roster until he gets priced off the team If the bat plays, few are gonna care much about the glove.
  20. Don't think Burkhardt will be stopping by much in the future.
  21. Girardi... what a mook that guy is.
  22. Meanwhile, Chris Davis proves that PEDS aren't all bad.
  23. Yeah, well, until today Lagares had been one big human erection-producing machine out there. Nimmo, well, he's been watching from the stands the last few nights.
  24. Oh, and MERRY CLINCHMAS, BALTIMORE!!
  25. Yeah, I kinda laid that argument out there knowing it couldn't possibly hold. Some guys (cough! dykstra COUGH!) just don't know who to sleep with to get a break. Produce in the minors, get a call-up, but somehow are given up on because they don't set the world on fire in 18 sporadic at-bats. And then they wait two years before their next bullshit non-opportunity comes. I mean, a career .294 / .371 / .522 // .893 line in the minors... what more do you want? Other guys come up, have the good fortune of having their hits fall in at the right time, and you can't get rid of 'em. They get a seven-year career out of a two-week hot streak.
