  1. GFA. Tweets are all over it. Springboarding off of Rubin. OE: Rubin says Mets have not acknowledged it yet.
  2. Well, logically, it becomes a lot easier once you have 11 wins already in the bag.
  3. I demand that I be persecuted! This place sucks!!
  4. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Like they knew Wright'd be reduced to a disability write-off. I'm not sure what this sarcasm is getting at. You don't know the future. Nobody does. What is wise is to consider possible outcomes, estimate their likelihoods, manage risks, and live maturely with whatever results come to pass. This is what was done. The Mets are that guy who goes out and buys a $2,000.00 suit even though he's about to get his lights shut off because he's can't pay the electric bill. I don't see how you can possibly make this analogy honestly while decrying their refusal to buy more suits. This would be a fair, if bitter, way to describe the Minaya regime, not this one. Some ugly-ass suits, at that.
  5. Doesn't fit the Sherman narrative.
  6. Looking more closely at the photo, that's the stool's translucent black plastic back support.
  7. When you get a chance to trade for a guy named "Kendall Graveman," you do it. This is really going to be a test, isn't it? They're as close to full strength as they've been in months. (Still down Wright and Murphy on offense and Wheeler and a bunch of relievers on the staff, but this is probably as close to full strength as they'll be for the rest of the year.) And they're playing four games against a good team that's red in hot weather. Rooting for a sweep, but breaking even would be a minor victory. Syndergaard, Harvey, Niese, and Colon scheduled to start, all rested for an extra day. The Mets won't be sending their hottest pitcher (deGrom) to the mound, but their coldest (Gee) won't be starting either, so that may be a wash.
  8. Some of the most momentous trades in team history have occurred on this date, including, of course, the most notorious. Where do I get a copy of the undershirt on the chair two lockers over? Whose locker is that? (Koosman's?) And is that a pair of black pantyhose draped over Jackson Todd's seat? 1962 New York Mets purchased Gene Woodling from the Washington Senators on June 15, 1962. 1966 New York Mets purchased Bob Friend from the New York Yankees on June 15, 1966. 1969 New York Mets traded Kevin Collins, Steve Renko, Jay Carden and Dave Colon to the Montreal Expos for Donn Clendenon on June 15, 1969. 1977 New York Mets traded Tom Seaver to the Cincinnati Reds for Doug Flynn, Steve Henderson, Pat Zachry and Dan Norman on June 15, 1977. New York Mets traded Dave Kingman to the San Diego Padres for Bobby Valentine and Paul Siebert on June 15, 1977. New York Mets traded Mike Phillips to the St. Louis Cardinals for Joel Youngblood on June 15, 1977. 1979 New York Mets purchased Andy Hassler from the Boston Red Sox on June 15, 1979. New York Mets traded Bob Myrick and Mike Bruhert to the Texas Rangers for Dock Ellis on June 15, 1979. 1983 New York Mets traded Neil Allen and Rick Ownbey to the St. Louis Cardinals for Keith Hernandez on June 15, 1983. New York Mets sold Mike Jorgensen to the Atlanta Braves on June 15, 1983. 1984 New York Mets traded Jay Tibbs, Eddie Williams and Matt Bullinger to the Cincinnati Reds for Bruce Berenyi on June 15, 1984. 2010 New York Mets released Gary Matthews on June 15, 2010.

You're tall and handsome. The party patrollers are subconsciously aiming for you.
  10. Justin Smoak. Came up at 23 and has been a replacement-level first baseman for five years. Now, at 28, is having the season of his career a career that might have turned him into journeyman by now had he come up in many other organizations. But he came up with a punchless Seattle outfit, and just when the journeying started, he might have found an immediate home in Canada. He's batting, reaching, and slugging well above his career rates. He's a switch-hitting Gamecock whose made it much further than his college teammate Reese Havens. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Kristin Bevacqua, who may or may not be related to Kurt. He almost never plays against lefties, yielding to Edwin Encarnacion, whose numbers don't look so great, but is currently hot and steamy.

  12. So, I hear them Blue Jays are hot.
  13. Dominic Smith goes 4-4 as St. Lucie, down 2-1 after five, puts up four runs in innings 6-8 and turns the ball over to soon-to-be New York Met Akeel Morris for the savie thing. Smith now at .298, having been on tear for a month at least. He hit his second homer last week, pulling him within one of his career high. Yeah, big whoopsie-daisy, but he's ripped a league-leading 21 doubles, pinning his slugging percentage up at a solid .434.
  14. Joel Sherman: another place not to look for insight.
  15. Mets tweeting that Akeel F. Morris is on his way to New York and expected to be activated for tomorrow's game. Coming up all the way from St. Lucie (!!!) They must've made the decision suddenly because he pitched today, earning his 13th save and lowering his ERA to 1.69. He's struck out 46 guys in 32 innings (12.93 per nine) and walked 14 (3.94). Also late-breaking news: Mike Puma of the Post is tweeting that the Mets have discussed moving Syndergaard to the bullpen to make room for Steven Matz (and presumably to strengthen the pen). Whether the pending Morris promotion affects that idea (or whether that idea has legs at all, or was just something spitballed) is a matter of speculation.
  16. Toronto grabbed him off waivers and he took his final laps with them in 1989. Lots o' Metly figures on those '89 Jays. Back to Leiter: my wife says we could make a pretty penny putting taking Al's silhouette off this card and embossing it in chrome onto mud flaps. batmagadanleadoff wrote:
  17. It's always SMBD in my head. Until it isn't, anyhow. Like there's ever a bad reason to play "Swingtown."
  18. Centerfield wrote: Nice! This is the "sack up" type of win I've been looking for all season. Is it me or have the bats woken up since being no hit? More likely, from my perspective, they've woken up since d'Arnaud has returned. Centerfield wrote: Now let's get David back and win this thing. It ain't nothin', but we may need to settle for Daniel.
  19. Dudes behind the plate, try and act like humans. You're creeping out my pitcher.
  20. Had a good year as a Mets in 2014. Suddenly, we have seven eighths of a lineup.
  21. #DILSONSPECTACULAR #METS
  22. I have NEVER been so hot for Al Leiter. Mercy. Get me a fan.
  23. Goin' for the four-out save. I support this, yet I fear it.
