This ump ain't gettin' it done.

That can be an annoyingly persistent condition. I wish it on nobody. Team-wise, he was already having a crap season, possibly related to the ailment. I guess Tyler Moore goes to first and Taylor becomes a full-time outfielder. But Moore has been having a lousy year also. Uggla?

Duffy ain't muffy.

When Wilmer walks, angels smile.

Panik on the street of Flushing.

Neeze not getting the low ball with this guy.

This guy is a disgracefully bad poseur of a journalist. Why do you re-post him without comment? At least offer us something of your own. Being a provocateur by cutting a Megdal fart in a crowded room has got to be getting old.

They haven't used the military leave list in a while. More activations, a comically short bench, no reserve infielders, and a velocity-dependent reliever whose lost his velocity and hasn't pitched in 14 months. Yeah, and a losing streak to end. Pretty good, though it takes a while to find it's voice. Designed on the James Bond template, with the mid-mission cold open, followed by a title sequence filled with sexy silhouettes panning across the screen and a title song by an elegant and exotic chanteuse. The hook, such as it is, is that McCarthy's character, working on the back end of the spy business, only appears to be an unassuming frump, but has vicious and effective violent instincts once released into the field. Rather than make up a spy organization, she supposedly works for the CIA, which is strange, because the CIA ends up looking profoundly stupid. Plus, half their agents seems to be British. Some of the best comedy in the first half comes from Jason Statham (who knew?), as a loose-cannon rival agent consumed by his self-mythology. Three stars out of five. I'm willing to be talked up to three and a half. Lots of low-humor, which works more in the second half. The first half, you mostly feel like you're wallowing.

I don't talk with Cuddyer as much as I should, but I haven't personally heard or read anything to the effect of his discomfort at third.

Part of what I liked about the Cuddyer signing was his alleged thirdbasiness.

An hour late on Bartolom, man. We're up to Vail.

Bruce Boisclair is the second sexiest outfielder in this picture. Yeah, that's opinion, but it almost qualifies as fact. Bruce Boisclair began his career as a 23rd inning pinch runner. Not a lot of people could claim such an auspicious beginning. Hey, you don't have to be obscure to have an interesting fact. How about a Jerry Koosman fact?

Dan Murray was the pitching coach for the 2006 Kingsport Mets, where 21 different minor leaguers received coaching, only one of whom has reached the major leagues. That one, Jos De La Torre, threw 11.1 innings for the 2013 Red Sox, to the tune of a 6.35 ERA. Fact me up about Tom O'Malley.

Looks like I assumed wrong. Can't say I get their roster building strategy these days. A bench of four guys, two of whom are catchers, one of whom is at the doctor getting examined, doesn't leave you a lot of leeway should somebody get hurt. Last night was as good a chance as any for a pitcher-in-the-field appearance. On the other hand, their bench players have been so unproductive, maybe they're on to something. Oh, there are certainly exceptions. Tito Landrum lasted forever, seemingly because Whitey loved to hit him against Orosco. But the broader point of not falling in love with your blue collar stiffs remains. It's cold, but it's a valid perspective. Joe McEwing's OPS+ scores over his five (five!) years in New York were 55-107-44-61-60. I'm just trying to put some move-it-or-lose-it pressure on Campbell. Granderson sucks? Good gravy. Catcher and third, that's where we're eating it.

They may be, but that's a big minus.

Maybe because they are. Maybe they are, but YNAGAYLWYW/YNABAYLWYL and stuff. I don't see them dealing Crawford to the Mets, certainly.

You don't win three championships in five years by being lucky. But shit, they look better than the Mets all over the diamond.

Turner's performance fell off. That's OK, because the Mets had Satin coming on strong. Next year, Satin had a job handed to him, and he floundered. BUT THAT'S OK, because Campbell was coming on strong. The next year, Campbell had a job handed to him, and WHAT THE FUCK?! One of Whitey Herzog's cruel but smart rules was that you don't want to keep reserves around too long, because if they get comfortable in their role, they lose the drive that gives them the only edge they have. He has a point. And it applies to Neiuwenhuis too. Once they grow a look-at-me beard, move on. Or at least bring in some terrifying competition. Anyhow, as I type this, Alex Castellanos is sitting on 11 homers in the PCL. Plays outfield, third, and first.

Curtis Granderson is the best thing that ever happened to Eric Campbell. Plawecki, too.

That's it. Put it in play and make them play some defense.

Guys, just put it in play. Baby steps. Bunt. I'm serious.

Romo drives me crazy. Touches every part of his body before each pitch.
