  1. Check out this crazy alignment the Dodgers used against the Padres back in August of 2014.
  2. I'm more concerned about Metly commitment to beating the shift than Metly commitment to applying it.
  3. In hardscrabble mid-eighties Dublin, a schoolboy with a crush, and little in the way of musical training, rallies his mates to start a band, mainly for the purpose of impressing the girl. Hyjinx ensue as the band learns playing and songwriting on the fly, changing styles in cycles that parallel the MTV rotation. John Carney, latter-day auteur of music-creation stories, directs. I'm heading in tonight. Support your local theaters that are not showing Captain 'Merica! 4. I have my suspicions about Yo. About him having a history of using, anyhow. I couldn't care less about his age. But the Mets sticking to three years and front loading the contract gives them a degree of protection against him coming up dirty. Of course, it also gives them a degree of exposure if he comes up simply awesome.
  5. One Friday morn, the rad'yo said something 'bout Fred Got online to find out, but the Crane Pool, it was dead Backpack Girl! Why are you there? Backpack Girl! Your skin's so clear But my head is in a whirl No Crane Pool, just some Backpack Girl I tried three URLs that used to work before Your smile kept telling me that they don't work no more Backpack Girl! Lip gloss turns me on Backpack Girl! But now my forum's gone And that just wrecks my world Please understand, Backpack Girl I wrote to the forum admins They forgot to pay domain fees And I asked "Are you fuckin' kidding?" They said "We do this all for free Why can't you assholes see? And no one's put much money In the Community Chest Got six e-mails from Rogers With his previews of the Dodgers On such a shitty day!" I swallowed hard, moved on to post at Grand Slam Single Such stale and shallow chat, I could not intermingle Backpack Girl! Your backpack's full of lies Backpack Girl! Oh won't you her my cries? Your smile's like a pearl But your heart is cruel, Backpack Girl I turned on FAN And laughed at all the callers Who thought the world gave two shits About their dumb opinions I called about Trot Nixon They said "Hey, man, we're talking Yankees" I said "If you don't talk 'bout Trot Nixon Then your station needs some fixin'!" Someone e-mailed me who posted there as well He said that we're back online and here's the URL! Backpack Girl! My shining star Backpack Girl! Be my avatar Your hair don't need no curl At the Pool with me --- the pennants we'll unfurl At the Pool with me --- the center of my world! At the Poooool with meeeee, Backpack Girrrrrl!
  6. My random number generator gave me a 36, which means Dave Racaniello. And as we know, Dave Racaniello is a mystery. The only romance we know about is his bromance with David Wright, having lived with Sugarpants until Molly came on the scene. He's literate, he's generous with sharing bullpen baseballs with kids, and he's committed great feats of strength, including the NYC Marathon multiple times, biking to spring training, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, and breaking the Philly cheesesteak record. It must be tough, being a Met-but-not-a-Met, wondering if any companion interested in you is truly interested in you for you, or merely looking to trade up to a "real" Met. Last I checked, he was a Stamford resident, which puts him in the swinging suburban orbit of fellow Italian-American quasi-Mets figures like Bobby Valentine and Lee Mazzilli, but a little bit too far from the bright lights of his old buddy Wright. And more to our point, too far from the newspapers that might otherwise like to report about bullpen catcher romance. Next time you're in Stamford while the Mets are in town, swing by Pellicci's some night after a game and let us know who Dave might be dining with. For all we know, he's been married three times.
  7. We should just code the new place to swap any instance of the word "home run" or "home-run" or "home run" with "KABOOM!"
  8. It's the one beer to have when you're having more than one wife executed.
  9. Not worth a full update, but Josh Edgin has jumped from St. Lucie to Las Vegas on his rehab road back from Tommy John surgery. Meanwhile, Jake Kuebler isn't sure if he's in Heaven or Iowa, signing in April for the Sioux City Explorers. Team opens in two weeks against the Sioux Falls canaries, in the battle royale to see who is the real heir to the legacy of the Sioux.
  10. I'm out here fighting to rehab and get another chance while guys are cheating their faces off. Stay classy fellas — ‎@Vic_Black_2
  11. Sheesh, I'm tempted to believe at least some of that is for real, but neither he nor Siena sniffed these numbers last year in Brooklyn. But hey, Ike Davis stunk in Brooklyn, and look at him now.
  12. Anybody miss Vic Sage? He's been unable to post. Don't know which Broadway show to drop you c-notes on? Thank our broke-ass forum. Special thanks to Ben and Kong for their work under the hood.
  13. WtF is David Thompson? Isn't he, like, a power forward from the eighties? No, he's your Columbia Fireflies third baseman. He's also your RBI leader? Leading the Fireflies, you say? No, I don't say. Leading the whole organization? No. David Thompson leads all of organized baseball, A ball all the way up to the bigs. David Thompson, 27-RBI man. The 'Flies took four of seven this week, sitting second of seven teams in the South Atlantic League Southern Division. The only guys in front of them are the fellow Palmetto Staters, the Charleston Riverdogs, New York Yankee affiliates. This. Will. Not. Stand. 14. Looking at the fifth outfielders around the division — Matt den Dekker, Tyler Goeddel, Ichiro Suzuki and Jeff Francoeur — I'm giving the Mets the decided edge in this category.
  15. Nats are just in the fourth.
  16. Well, Oliver Stone's fevered dreams of what goes on in a Turkish prison, anyhow.
  17. Matz is all "One-hitter right back atcha, Bravos."
  18. Cripes, I actually take thirty minutes to actual work and the Mets tack on six.
  19. REN RIVERA, SISTERS!
  20. Arcola's bat has been cold.
  21. I'm not so sure the Cubs are as good as all this. For one, their lineup has three guys playing like MVPs, but they are the only three guys with an OPS+ over 100 (numbers for each below). Zobrist has been meh and Heyward has been horrible enough to qualify for the 2016 Yankees. c Miguel Montero (DL) 74 1b Anthony Rizzo 160 2b Ben Zobrist 98 ss Addison Russell 80 3b Kris Bryant 139 lf Jorge Soler 55 cf Dexter Fowler 185! rf Jason Heyward 56 The bench has been Bambi's Bandits-quality spectacular, but how sustainable is that? It's all about the arms with them. And if you still have faith that the Mets big three can match up with theirs, then the Mets have every hope of disappointing them as starkly as they did last year.
  22. The thing is, the Braves hit more of 'em.
