  1. Noah, you go tomorrow. Gselly, get the to the bullpen. Gilly, head down to Vegas and send me back some Reynolds.
  2. I think Reyés—as the former stolen base champ on professional thin ice in the back half of his career—plays the firecracker-tossing role in this scenario. Céspedes does seem more likely to mess up Syndergaard's arm with a golf club, though.
  3. President Trump posting from Fman's account these days? [fimg=400:3t3zmx5f]https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/36/e9/7b/36e97b8e9bd769116b5fc54dd30f62c2.jpg[/fimg:3t3zmx5f]
  4. A Nippon Ham Fighter?
  5. Might as well back-date him on the 10-day DL at this point, then, right?
  6. No pitcher has been more dominant than Class A Columbia's Merandy Gonzalez to begin the season. That trend continued on Friday night, as the Mets' No. 14 prospect extended his scoreless innings streak to 20 2/3 by tossing seven frames in a win against Lexington. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/225794220/mets-merandy-gonzalez-extends-scoreless-streak/
  7. Hi, I'm Merandy Gonzalez. How many games have I appeared in this season for the Columbia Fireflies? Three. How many wins do I have? Three. How many innings have I pitched? 20 and 2/3. How many runzzz have I allowed? Zero. What's a run? How many dudes have I struck out? Eighteen. Alice Cooper sings about the number of dudes I've struck out. That's how many. And how many have I walked? One. Combine that with 10 hits allowed, and no hit batsmen, and I'm walking around the Sally League with a 0.532 WHIP. What's a Tebow? Are you serious? There's some guy named "Tebow" on my team? Never heard of him.
  8. I think they'd be just as fine with Wilmer Flores as Todd Frazier. It's just that, well, Flores done got broke. But there's no shortage of quality fallback positions in place going forward. I mean, they were just as fine with José Reyes last year. And while nobody is really doing as badly as Reyes this year, Todd Frazier is sure as hell close.
  9. The Mets have a solid, every-day third baseman. Probably more than one.
  10. Well, he's certainly no long-term solution.
  11. I'd be surprised if they'd bite at anybody as costly as Bruce or Granderson. Maybe if the Mets included Plawecki and took Francisco Cervelli or something. But then they'd have to include something else sweet. Like, really sweet.
  12. Frayed Knot wrote: For the record, neither our SIGN MURPHY NOW discussion nor the inevitable MEMORIES OF MURPHY thread were chock full of "Go git 'em Sandy!" comments. These were great re-reads. Good huntin'!
  13. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I can't help but think that there are big changes coming before next April. With Duda, Granderson, Bruce, Reyes, and Walker in their walk year, and an option on Cabrera, there will be decisions to be made. René Rivera too! Can/would the Mets give starting jobs to Cecchini, Rosario, and Smith all at once? Don't forget Nimmo! My take is that some of these jobs will fall as the year progresses. Conforto has already made himself very difficult to remove from the lineup, no matter how healthy the Mets get. So hopefully, fewer decisions than all that will have to be made in December. And some of them can be half made. A fading but still useful player or two can be re-signed short-term, allowing him to continue defending his playing time as long as he can, while the Ceccchini class continues to try and take it from him. I think the number of transitions this year will be notable as we look back. It may mean a bad year or it may mean a good one. Changing on the fly is always risky, but one way or another, you end up with fresh legs. And in the Mets' case, money freed up to sign some of the pitchers.
  14. I'm not lamenting the significant long term commitment Murphy would have cost the Mets, especially if it was comparable to what he is costing the Nats. Otherwise, smg58 more or less hit for the cycle in that post above.
  15. A more conservative thought is that, outhitting him down there is Josh Rodriguez. He too plays shortstop.
  16. Desmond Lindsay: Playing for Columbia, but heading into Byhalia, Mississippi on I-22. Tomás Nido: Crawling around the heartland late at night in his Rumble Ponies uniform, searching for a rumored I-47.
  17. You're killing it.
  18. Rain. Not good for making sore joints feel better.
  19. Bobby Gsellman defends against Julie Teheran as the Mets host the Braves. Will there be healing? Who knows who will be in better shape since Sunday night? Who knows who will be hurt in the interim? Who knows what transactions will take place between now and then? Baseball. I can't say it'll all feel better by Tuesday. In fact, it likely won't. But maybe it'll be warmer by then. Maybe.
  20. Reyes going Reyes, unfortunately.
  21. Take pitches. Bunt. Bunt. Take pitches.
  22. Zimmerman? Come on.
  23. I want better on-base percentage, but I've got no big problem with Sandy.
  24. Wheels has sure shown fortitude of character from where I sit tonight.
