Man, even with a running start, Duda doesn't score from first on a double.

No Sunday subs. Terry is grinding to get out of this series with a win. Nonetheless. The big guy is tasting pine. Good chance you'll see at least one of our recent called up first-round draft choices get his first start of 2017.

All true. When it comes down to it, he's rattling the cage a lot less than Rosario. There's three possible arguments for promoting Smith: (1) You've traded Duda. (2) You've broken Duda (while your three other original starting infielders are already hurt). (3) It's September.

I got the idea that Grant probably thought he could get away with saying that Seaver requested the trade, which everyone naturally knew he was provoked to do, leaving Grant wondering Trump-like why the public had him as the villian.

C'mon, guys! Nats bullpen!

Good to see Conforto back in center. C'mon, guyz! Big game!

The rash of injuries that has struck the New York Mets in recent days has been felt all down the line, as teams find their better players getting promoted, and in some cases find forced to take the field shorthanded. Binghamton went to battle against Reading last night with only 23 players in uniform, but managed a 4-3 win thanks in large part to a ninth-inning walkoff hit by Kevin Kaczmarski. (Phightin' Phils, my butt.) Former (and hopefully future) top pitching prospect Marcos Molina has joined the Ponies after putting up a 1.26 ERA in his first five starts with St. Lucie following a late beginning to his season. He conspires with P.J. Conlon and Chris Flexen to give Binghamton a prospect-heavy rotation, rounded out by veteran mainstays Casey Delgado and Mickey Jannis. A win today with Molina on the mound would allow the Ponies to catch Redding in the standings and pull into a tie for second place. They currently sit in third, six games behind the Trenton Thunder. Bingo's general lack of power is going to be distinctly amplified, with the promotion of firstbaseman Cody Decker. Decker had led the team with seven homers in only 113 at-bats. After him, the leading thumber on the team is Tomás Nido, slugging .436 with five homers in 172 at-bats—not quite numbers that scream "CLEANUP HITTER!" Joining the team just as we go to press as one of Nido's backups is Tyler Moore, who hadn't yet appeared in 2017, and I was worried had packed it in after a sap of a season in Columbia last year. Welcome back, Tyler. You're going to make it after all. Yadda-yadda-yadda. One thing Bingo does have going for it is on-basiness, with outfielder Kevin Taylor leading the circuit at .413, and Kaczmarski currenlty fifth at .395. One person that has to be unhappy is L.J. Mazzilli. injuries to two Mets infielders have led two of his teammates to get the call to Vegas, but L.J. had been the tweener all season long, and he was perhaps taking it for granted that one of those calls was his to get. Yeah, but I'm rooting for the wins.

Besides Desmond Jennings, the Mets have recently released a handful of short season leaguers as they clear room for all the drafted newcomers. These guys have spent the last few months playing scrimmages and working out in St. Lucie, but haven't been working out hard enough! Catcher Dionis Rodriguez, you will not play for the Cyclones this season. Starting pitcher Sixto Torres, you will not be throwing to whoever is catching in Dionis' stead. Starting pitcher Yeizo Campos, I wouldn't be smiling if I were you. I have a ticket here with your name on it also. Kingsport is not in your future. Outfielder Raphael Ramirez, it takes more than a big leaguer's name to get the big leagues. I'm afraid you won't be eating Coney Island franks this summer. Please adjust your dreams accordingly.

Smith isn't killing it, but he's hurting it very badly, at .315 / .368 / .464 // .832. Of course, that loses more than a little when it get's translated not just from AAA to MLB, but from PCL AAA to MLB. On the other hand, it's not a straight swap, as you'd be swapping but a few months of Doo. On the other other hand, do you think he brings a pick back if he gets a qualifying offer? Probably, right?

Losing Cecchini, Nimmo, and Reynolds to promotion in quick succession wasn't enough for the 51s' offense. Today also saw the release of veteran Desmond Jennings. I'm guessing not getting a callup after Lagares went down was the writing on the wall for him, and he asked for a release hoping to catch on with a team that's thinner in the outfield.

The jailbreak was brief.

Not a lot of following this game.

Hey, Mets! More jailbreaking!

It'll probably be as dynamic a winter as you'll see in Metdom. Like ever Alderson and Collins both have expiring contracts, and whoever takes over will see Rivera, Duda, Walker, probably Cabrera, Reyes, Granderson, and Bruce come off the books on the offensive side, and Reed and possibly Blevins on the pitching side. And with them, a fortune's worth of Fred Wipon's borrowed money. On top of that, there'll be arbitration decisions for something like the entire rotation (Harvey, Syndergaard, Wheeler, deGrom, Milone), some key young hitters (d'Arnaud, Flores), and a chunk of our deadly relief corps (Edgin, Familia, Ramirez). As bored as you were last offseason, the coming one should be quite the opposite.

Elbow.

Gotta be one of the top ten all time rock singers, right? It's like what Bruce Springsteen would sound like if he could sing.

Max Scherzer faces Steven Matz, and he frankly doesn't know what he's up against. He just doesn't. [youtube:1jlhtgjw]iC6Cgb8nHwk[/youtube:1jlhtgjw] Ignore that warning at your peril.

No, he gets the roster spot, not the rotation spot. They had been playing an infielder short anyhow. Montero certainly made a bid for the latter.

Or go down in order all quiet-like. I guess that's another option.

Five runs, guys. No sweat.

Montero retires eight in a row and maybe just got hurt. Because because because.
