Sammy Solis? 8.44 ERA? C'MON, METS!

Oh, butts.

Man, we can't let this bullpen off.

Céspedes vs. Blanton. This is the matchup we want.

AH, FRUG! Hey, Tom Goodwin, don't let your fellow Goodwins throw out our go-ahead runners.

Bunt workzzz! Time to take that lead, Mets!!

NIMMMMMMO! gets it started. Bunt or pinch-hit?

Shit. Touché, Mr. Strasburg.

Following game at bar. Home now. Must has win.

Throwback Monday with José Reyes in the leadoff spot. As much as I'm rooting for Nimmo, I was wondering if Granderson had suddenly joined Wilmer Flores in internal exile, but apparently he's out of the lineup with "hip tightness." [fimg=240]https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0993/8094/products/New_York_Mets_New_Era_Blue_Core_Classic_Adj_Hat_Pro_Image_Sports_grande.png?v=1494607732[/fimg] Reyes, ss Cabrera, 2b Céspedes, lf Bruce, rf Rivera, 3b Duda, 1b d'Arnaud, c Nimmo, cf Matz, sp Some guy They haven't announced yet Probably whatshisname A jerk, says the smart money A big leaguer, by definition Stop looking at me, I don't know Somebody with a bat A Washington National The pitcher, probably, but more than that, I can't say

And a good one. A lone representative who has been on the disabled list harkens back to 1981. Joel Youngblood, who had been having the season of his life when he got hurt, but the strike came a week later, and the two of them combined to freeze his stat line in amber at .359 / .406 / .555 // .960. Yeah, it was only 38 games, but those numbers were too impressive to ignore for a manager looking to find a sole representative from a perennial bottom dweller like Joe Torre's Mets. He was still understood to be hurt at the time the strike ended, but he managed to do more than tip his hat in his sole All-star appearance, pinch-hitting for starter Fernando Valenzuela with Andre Dawson on second, but popping out to first baseman Rod Carew to end the inning. Youngblood played another week before re-injuring himself and ending his season, forever locking his 1981 line in at a jawdropping .350 / .398 / .531 // .929. In retrospect, they might've done well to trade him that offseason rather than in the middle of the following summer. But, you know, they got Tom Gorman for him, and they could've done worse.

Usually, a disabled guy will go to tip his cap and participate in the extra-curriculars, even if he can't play. The league will try and get an active player from the roster from the same team on the roster, but technically, the injured player fulfills the at-least-one-guy-per-team rule.

You know what I thought this film was about? An actual baby driver. That sounds like a great elevator pitch. You get an MGM exec trapped on an elevator, and you hit him up with your crazy-assed idea for a film called Baby Driver. "It's about a baby, you see? And he gets the keys to the car! And he's DRIVING ALL OVER TOWN! For the whole movie! He's got near misses here, and running down mailboxes over there, and he's giggling and running red lights and shit! And maybe he interrupts a bank heist or something. The FBI is brought in and ... and Homeland security! But he's plowing through roadblocks! Baby driver! Green light, right?! Right?!" "Hey, let go of me!"

And they get nothing to show for it.

Phils giving the Mets five outs in the ninth.

Yes to Nimmo, but in place of Granderson, not Céspedes. #surprised [fimg=320]http://talesfromtheamericanfootballleague.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Shea-Stadium-1964-Dexter-Press-front.jpg[/fimg]Daniel Nava, lfFreddy Galvis, ssAaron Altherr, cfTommy Joseph, 1bNick Williams, rfMaikel Franco, 3bTy Kelly, 2bAndrew Knapp, cNick Pivetta, spBrandon Nimmo, cfAsdrubal Cabrera, 2bYoenis Céspedes, lfJay Bruce, rfLucas Duda, 1bT.J. Pivetta is sort of like Montero when he came up, in that his control has abandoned him at the big league level, and if you're willing to wait him out, his walk rates have been unconscionable. With a DGaaNG and Conforto DL'd, I'm suspecting that they sit Céspedes and give Nimmo his first start of the year. If they do, the over-under on Brandon's walks total should be set at three.

Seemingly alternating two well pitched games with one blowup, the Mets are still not moving up as fast as we'd like. This is a shame, because Pittsburgh is showing it can be done. And Cincinnati is sure showing a team can still plummet in the rankings. Two starters (deGrom, Matz) are pitching consistently well. That's something. Wheeler, Lugo, and Montero are welcome to join them at any time. The successful double-header debut of Tim Tebow in St. Lucie was NOT a success for the team, as they were swept by a Palm Beach team who followed up on taking both ends of the double-header by deserting on St. Lucie with an extra-inning win the next. That loss dropped them to 1-6 in the Florida State League second half standings, good for dead last in the league’s South Division. This follows in the heels of a three-way tie for third in the first half. And you know what they say—a three-way tie for third is a three-way tie for fifth. The brightest spot remains hot shot catching prospect Patrick Mazurka, who not only hits consistently at .294 / .383 / .444 // .827, but has a Gary Carterish knack for avoiding the strikeout, tallying just 34 in 248 at-bats. Also continuing to sizzle is Johan Urena, battling his way back from injury and putting up a .299 / .397 / .448 // .845. Jhoan has some catching up to do and probably can expect a promotion coming soon. Nail Crismatt continues to anchor the staff (2.70 ERA in 14 starts and 86 2/3 innings, with 20 walks and 85 strikeouts). But joining Urena in tonight’s episode of WE ALMOST FORGOT ABOUT YOU THEATER is Marcos Molina who missed a big chunk of 2015, all of 2016, and the first seven weeks of this season, but is really finding his stride now, putting up a 1.26 ERA through his first five starts walking five and striking out 23 in 28 2/3 innings. All-star infielder Michael Paez joins Tebow, Gonzalez (sweet first start), and Humphreys (crap first start) with mis-season promotions. The Mets had TBD going for them last night. That didn’t seem like anything that would help them get off the schneid … until it was announced late that TBD was going to be Humphreys. Humphreys was going! Surely he’d turn it around! And turn it around he did. Seven innings! Six hits! One walk! Two strikeouts! Zero runs! Zero runs! That’s the way to get it done! At least it was until the bullpen took over. A combination of Justin Brantley, Alex Palsha, and Tyler Bahlor collaborated to lay a big, fat egg, and the saintly Mets lost, 11-0. Their start fell to 1-7. They were blessedly rained out today. St. Lucie, you'll recall, had a desperate situation developing with their starting pitching from early in the year. Most everybody who didn't get hit by the injury bug got caught in the updraft created by the injures to the Mets staff. The good news is that may be abated. with the addition of Merandy Gonzalez and Jordan Humphreys, the improved play of Justin Dunn, the return of Chris Flexen, and the looming returns of Chase Ingram and Mike Gibbons, St. Lucie Manager Chad Kreuter may soon find himself spoiled for choice. At the bottom of the Eudor Garcia, infielder. At the time of his release, Eudor had gotten into only five games in 2017, but had hit .357 / .400 / .429 // .829. He must have had a big head. Nationals lose, allowing the Mets to close within nine games in the NL East. Miami loses, dropping them 2 1/2 games behind the Mets in the standings in the East, as well as in the Wild Card. Pittsburgh loses, dropping them 1 1/2 games behind the Mets in the standings in the Wild Card. The Cardinals and Braves sit a game ahead, and suddenly, the Cubs only a game and a half. Wild Card leaders Colorado and Arizona are battling it out in the first right now. The Mets are guaranteed to gain on one of them.

Mixed blessing! Ground out to Duda, but the tying run crosses to third! Mikael Franco! He's up! [bigpurple:20d7nrv6]AND HE'S OUT O MY GOD!!![/bigpurple:20d7nrv6]

Tommy Joseph flies to shallow center. Nick Williams up.

DOUBLE TROUBLE!

Reedy on looking for the last three outs of a four-out save.

And we're back. And hey! Joaquin Benoit is still in the league! Who knew?
