How about not waiting 90 seconds to challenge a call?

That's the thrill, right? It's got to almost get through to keep the thrill there for the risk-addicted staff of mostly young men. And the thrill is part of what keeps them going at a demoralizing entry-level-but-nonetheless-high-responsibility job. And in order for the risk to be real, there has to be that one time everything went through the cracks.

Jeff Pearlman takes a deep forensic look at "The Fallout From Sportswriting's Filthiest Fuck-Up," ironically at Deadspin, the outlet that has created new expectation that sportswriting ought to be profane (hence the headline). A fascinating look back at the mostly dead world of local journalism that was a fixture in American culture not so long ago, and the exploited fringe characters who made it go.

Sherman assumes a lot.

Wow, Céspedes chases the slider low and away. Again and again.

40-pitch first = recipe for success!!

Inching somewhat closer to a worthy ration of pitchers to batters. Now how about we get Cheech in the lineup and let him go nuts? Sorry about the bad break, McGowan. Stay ready. Plenty of time until November. And there's a lot more information to come in. These guys have an interest in getting ahead of themselves when they can't sap an angle from the current story.

We have a terrible knuckler. Mickey F. Jannis. He's been in AA and can't seem to buy a promotion after three seasons up there, even though he's been kinda good this season and the Vegas rotation has been dramatically awful. He wears a single-digit number too, just the kind of weirdo who can make for some good copy down the boring, boring stretch. Plus he looks like a guy born New Yorker/neighborhood guy. Delivers canned goods to your uncle's deli, works a little construction, talks a little too loud, and maybe knows something about where you can get some action but you didn't hear it from him. You know when he's bullshitting, which is almost always, because his hands always go to his face.

The only thing that ending was missing was Donald Trump behind home plate.

My nightly announcement that you're supposed to TAKE A STRIKE when down by more than one in the ninth, guys.

What a shlub of an umping job tonight.

I had forgotten Smokey was even active on the roster. Meanwhile, Travis d'Arnaud is breaking the boxscore on my mlb.tv broadcast. [fimg=700:2lim9gzf]https://metsinpeace.files.wordpress.com/2017/08/screen-shot-2017-08-16-at-9-45-16-pm.png[/fimg:2lim9gzf]

Nuts to you, ump.

How come you never see a team, when the infield fly rule is called, intentionally drop it to see if any of the runners panic and try to advance? It's probably been tried, but I haven't seen it in a while. Does one's manhood compel one to prove he can catch the ball?

Mets Regular Season Wins Against the Yankees 1) Al Leiter: 5 2) Oliver Perez: 4 3) Tom Glavine: 3 T4) Mike Pelfrey: 2 T4) John Franco: 2 T4) Johan Santana: 2 T4) Steve Trachsel: 2 T8) Mike Hampton: 1 T8) Hisanori Takahashi: 1 T8) Jenrry Mejia: 1 T8) R. A. Dickey: 1 T8) Dillon Gee: 1 T8) Jeremy Hefner: 1 T8) Matt Harvey: 1 T8) Brandon Lyon: 1 T8) Scott Rice: 1 T8) Daisuke Matsuzaka: 1 T8) Bartolo Colon: 1 T8) Jacob deGrom: 1 T8) Jon Niese: 1 T8) Fernando Nieve: 1

Which Mets pitcher has the most Subway Series wins? I'm guessing Trachsel.

THIS is a situation that calls for a Josh Edgin.

Well, Aaron Judge just re-wrote the Citi Field record book.

How do two infielders come up with off-field-incurred ribcage injuries on the same day?

I think that both these guys are being brought in to get an early start on auditioning for next year has some merit. Bing Devine 1967 action. This guy is sort of auditioning for next year too, needing to prove he's healthy enough to keep the team from recruiting over his head.
