I'm telling you, Nimmo vs. the righties and Lagares vs. the lefties is the centerfield/leadoff elixir you're looking for. If the two of them can stay healthy, and the manager sets them loose to do what they can do, they will be a potent cocktail of baseball excitement. Lagares can also come on for defense on occassion, shifting Nimmo to a corner spot when appropriate. Seeing recent alignments with Conforto in center and Nimmo on the corner made me want to holler. And that's when Nimmo was allowed into a lineup at all. Let's play baseball, Terry!

Would TJ Rivera be the first TJ to get TJ surgery since the original? Anyhow, one thing that stinks is that the Yanks don't look like anything special. Their offense is full of boring hacker/whiffers, waiting for a mistake, and the pitching staff is full of slider/nibblers. They don't play smart and their defenders seem to be out of position. They're not aggressive, and when they are, they look stupid. They just seem like a more winning version of the Mets.

But look. He's not even in rain gear, but neither is he particularly wet. He probably spent the whole game in a box (if he was there at all) and then snuck down at the end hoping to bandwagon onto something special. Because he's a fake and a fraud.

Two older guys acquired and reporting to Vegas, one signed as a free agent, one purchased, probably for very little scratch. Snider is a seven-year vet, mostly in the AL, though while he was with the Pirates made perhaps the best catch in Citi Field history. Desperate to be part of somebody else's bandwagon. 100% typical.

Some heart!

Would be nice to show some heart against Chapstick.

Our horrible, hateful, Nazi-mollifying, gropenführer of a president, sitting in row three as Carlos Beltran strikes out to end the 2006 season.

OK, Smitty. That's two. I tend to agree with your first thought, Gary. Take the free baserunner that the bunt offers.

Wilmer Flores, giving us our best trips to the plate these days. I kind of think it's because he's angry.

You know how in the last game of the season, there's this unspoken understanding by both teams that they'd just swing at shit and get it over with and go home? I feel like the mets have been in this mode since at least the third week of July.

Infield hit by Shméspedes.

Frayed Knot wrote: Y'know, one run deficit, three run deficit ... it pretty much doesn't matter since the Mets don't show any hint of a possibility that they're going to score a run. It's stupid, but it's like getting somebody on base actually undermines their strategy of trying to hit solo homers.

Yay, a walk!

I've been watching Sonny Gray for 10 seconds and already find him revolting.

Centerfield wrote: Robles has been pretty good since he's been back. But he doesn't have enough pitches to mix it up, and I think leaving him in for a second inning is pushing your luck. Especially in that ballpark. It was like a carbon copy of the Colorado game, where he was able to get through one inning, but in his second inning of work, they got to him. I'm generally in favor of riding a guy as long as you can, but he sure seemed to labor through that first inning, fighting himself at times, even if he did escape with two strikeouts. I thought, "Get him out on a positive. He's a reclamation project still trying to find his way back. And he's seen a lot of use of late. You have eight relievers. Use them. Tie games can disappear fast in this park." Of course, before I thought all that, the Yankees punched me in the nose.

We may not know the player until after the season. If he was blocked, he can't be moved until then.

Facts are always good.

Bah, crap call, rookie or no.
