    The thing is that Gordon is probably the only guy in the league who is going to beat that out. It shouldn't be hard to keep a mental rolodex of one. Gordon is up, you cheat up a half step, you field the ball stepping forward, and you get rid of it with all the economy you can muster.

    How did I miss the Marlins signing Shane McGowan as a starting pitcher?

    Yeah, I agree. Considering they traded for him, he's likely coming, as he's a free agent if they don't add him to the 40. And he's pretty much first in line to be their fifth outfielder next season. Hitting .333 / .412 / .400 // .812 in his first four games for Vegas.

    Edgin isn't on the 40 any longer, but he could return. McGowan and Pill will likely return. Thanks to the shedding of veterans over the last two weeks, have five slots open on the 40-man roster, but some of them will be filled if and when guys on the 60-day DL (Familia, Syndergaard, Wright) return. Pretty much all of the guys on the 40 who haven't appeared (Molina, Nido, and Becerra) still haven't cracked Vegas (or done a full year at Binghamton), so they are no guarantee to join the club.

    I like that Plawecki had spent most of his year in the minors, had no prior homers this season at the big-league level, but had the team homerun handshake/slap/dance down to a T.

    I think we're finally seeing the birth of the new lineup today. Homegrown most of the way around the lineup, too. Let's get Cecchini in at second and Laggy into the outfield and do this right.

    Spotted buying a Rosetta Stone Canadian course. Really enjoyed watching the Marlins' homerun kinetic sculpture, and did his best to keep it in motion.

    If a guy pinch hits and the team bats around, giving him a second at-bat in the inning, it doesn't count as a pinch-hit at-bat. Gary called it a "Zombie at-bat," a term I've never heard. It seems to me that the plate appearance has to be credited to him either as a pinch-hitter or as a pitcher.
