That's some cold shit, Rickey.

Gee, fellas, it would sure be swell if I could be in that club!

And the Central New York location. I don't know if the fictional town of the movie was actually set in CNY (most sasquatch sitings are associated with the Northwest), but it was shot in and around Hamilton/Colgate. It also borrows sequences and plot turns from Jaws.

I tend to think that Bonds was Hall-worthy when (it's generally accepted) he started juicing. I tend to think Clemens wasn't quite there. So I tend to disagree that Clemens is just as worthy as Bonds. Following 1996, the Sox recognized that he was declining, and as he moved on the Jays, he needed one or two more excellent seasons to put him over the top. He started juicing and had, like, seven or eight. In fact, shelving the whole issue of PEDs, I disagree that Clemens is just as worthy. Bonds was unstoppable.

John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Yes, you're here. So am I. Maybe millions of people go by. I think I recognize this club, but then it eludes me.

In a film that's strangely most similar to ABC Family fare, but was actually a cinematic release in 2017, Michael Shannon (usually a support actor but here he is) stars as an amiable general store operator in a failing town who accidentally puts his town back on the map by dressing as Bigfoot. Weird and poorly executed in a way that would make it great fodder for Mystery Science Theater, but compelling in the sort of way that a film is compelling when folks you think should know better all end up trying to carry a hopeless project across the finish line. Broadly references other films—like, instead of referencing a line or two, they cop a whole scene, so what starts out as an Easter egg, becomes a big garish Easter basket. A second feature from Ron Perlman's Wing & A Prayer Pictures, which looks like he founded to bring some jobs to Central New York, so thanks, Ron, even if two of those jobs went to you and your daughter who each play supporting roles. How about you hire fman next time? Now streaming on Netflix, for when you really can't find something else and your curiosity is more powerful than your better judgment. Not that I would know anything about that. [fimg=350]https://i0.wp.com/substreammagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Pottersville-poster.jpg?resize=640%2C800&ssl=1[/fimg]

Four young fans (l to r: Michael, David, Eddie, Alex) pester Mets legend Willie Mays for autographs.

They can take on a big league player and still shed payroll, just not as much. At the end of the day, they still have to field a team.

Probably onto something there.

I kind of enjoyed the prospect of Andres Gallaraga finishing-but-not-finishing his career with the Mets. I 95% suspected nothing would come of it, and nothing did, but stories make things interesting. I never saw such a massive set of guns as old Andres brought into camp. I mean, it's farce, but it's all farce at some level, and the investment was right (a minor league deal with a few dozen at bats), and the plug was pulled at the right time. That said, I don't think they're going there with Palmy.

Benjamin Grimm wrote: No dollars, not anymore. I used to make about $400 per year on the UMDB through advertising, and had I not foolishly spent that money on women, booze, and beer I guess I'd probably be a billionaire by now. My dilemma is whether or not I want to take on the challenge of making the site responsive. I'm intrigued by the idea of it, but not, for the moment anyway, particularly motivated. So for now it will go on as it is. I figure part of the junior partner's job is monetization.

It went largely ignored at the end of last week, but the Mets did a minor league signing, picking up the pieces of a guy with one of the worst ERAs in the PCL, and calling on the king's men to put him back together. Drew Gagnon's the name. Another former Long Beach State Dirtbag. His signing is so under-the-wire that we don't even know if it came with a spring training invite! Nobody wants to be the jerk to ask, "Hey, Sandy, will we see Drew Gagnon down in St. Lucie?!" Drew Gagnon! You probably won't see much of him in New York, but folllow him at @Dgags24! [fimg=400]http://metsminors.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/098729DD-B456-49E7-814D-0C4F6A7A0298.jpeg[/fimg]

Good news! I reviewed a lot of who is and isn't a minor league free agent, and ... a lot of guys previously reported to be minor league free agents (including everbody's favorite and least-favorite knuckleballer Mickey Jannis) aren't free agents at all! Bad news! Tyler Pill actually is a minor league free agent. Like Erik Goeddel and Travis Taijeron, upon being removed from the 40-man roster, he opted for free agency. Good news! That means there's (finally) a spot in the Las Vegas rotation for Jannis! Good-ish, bad-ish news! You ignored it on Friday, but the Mets signed a dude. Yeah, it's the ultimate in buying low when you sign a guy who put up a 6.89 ERA in the International League, but welcome to the Mets, Drew Gagnon! I can't speak to their minds, but such a strategy has 0% chance of providing any coverage to anybody. >>> "Why don't you spend any money?" >>> >>> "Look, we can't make any trades because our GM has built a terrible farm system." >>> "OK, why don't you spend any money and why did you just re-sign your GM?" If it's a story that's been repeated, well, stories work that way, and it tends to happen.

I imagine Harvey wouldn't be offered a two-year, $24 million extension by any team.

Mets open new ballpark. [youtube:3b3t7rh3]c2iNeC2aVA8[/youtube:3b3t7rh3]

Man, the only thing that photo is missing is tiki torches.

That wouldn't and doesn't take the heat off.

John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I also think it's a good possiblility they will offer Harvey an extension of spring training top get his shot together. Good one.

I don't think the Wilpons are pushing a narrative that the farm system sucks.

I guess I was 16 in 1983, and damned if that wasn't my favorite. And for Pete Flynn's sake, it was 1983.

Benjamin Grimm wrote: ...the Failing Ultimate Mets Database... Hey! You may be on to something, though. I've decided to give it one more year and then, after the 2018 season, I'll see if I want to keep the thing going. That'll be an even 20 years! I'll need to work out a deal with you on preserving part of it! Benjamin Grimm wrote: My feelings about the UMDB vary depending on whether it's the season or the offseason. This time of year I pretty much ignore it and the thought of starting up again seems to be more trouble than it's worth. But once the season gets underway I start to enjoy it a bit more. But yeah, if and when I do shut it down, we'll certainly come up with a way to preserve your numbers data. Maybe someone else would even want to take on the whole thing. But this is premature. Chances are I'll keep it up for at least a few more years. I have the very same thoughts. You guys both rule, but youse might want to each take on a junior partner. They bring the 21st century expertise while you bring 20 years of brand equity. They can do all the work while you count the piles of $$$!

I'm sorry. I certainly didn't mean to piss you off. You explicitly said you were disappointed that there were no rumors. And here ceets was, upset that journalists were repeating rumors. If I tweaking anybody, it was Mr. Ceetar, and he seemed to have taken it in the spirit it was intended.

batmagadanleadoff wrote: Edgy MD wrote: Why do you hate Ashie? I'm wearied by continued reports that X team (the Mets) can't trade for big league talent because they don't have the prospects. As if their players graduating to the majors and not appearing on prospect lists suddenly makes them untradeable. Every team has enough talent to trade for any player in the league, just about. It may not match up as a good deal, but the idea that a trade is suddenly out of the question is absurd. Maybe we can send Pat Zachry, Steve Henderson and Dan Norman to the Angels for Mike Trout. I like how you somehow make this deal while hanging on to Doug Flynn. Nice!
