You're all in on Harrison?

It would be really scary otherwise, since the Mets still haven't announced who their new trainers are.

And physicals are generally performed by doctors and not trainers.

That's what a slugger looks like in the DSL, and Yoel was 12th in the league in slugging percentage and 10th in OPS. Well, I saw this coming. Fallout from the Jay Bruce signing. And there Vic Sage was, suggesting that he might make the opening day roster. Most national broadcasters cut their teeth on local broadcasts, but Bob broke nationally doing other sports and came over from there.

Oh, Jeromy! Anybody who had to wear that stupid swoosh on his chest has my sympathy!

And then whoever wins your little play-in round gets the honor of getting pummeled by the '86 Mets. Now send some of that fondue to my table.

It seems to be the consensus among beaters that the opening day first base assignment is Adrian Gonzalez' to lose, and that leaves Smitty as more valuable in the minors than on a big league bench. At one level, I hate it, because taking AAA production at seventy cents on the dollar, Smith had as productive a year as any Met infielder. But I see what they're doing, I think, and with Conforto DL-bound, shaving away uncertainty makes some sense. His roster spot returns to Cecchini until it doesn't. Joel Romero not only got released by the Mets while never having played above the DSL Mets second squad, he just got popped for stanazol or something. Eighty game suspension for any team that signs him. I think he qualifies as just about the least desirable professional free agent in the hemisphere. The Mets also have a minor leaguer named Yoel Romero, a slugging 19-year-old that has also never played above the DSL. Him they retain the rights to. DON'T BE CONFUSED! Sorry, I'm late! The party officially starts now!

Waddaya mean I'm supposed to bring the ice?

A +3 would be "I like a lot," but nobody clicked that.

Matthew Brownstein of The Times is reporting that Sandy is hoping for May 1 with Conforto. That's serious business, probably suggesting that the Mets need to live life as if they're looking at August 1. And I think I like the Bruce deal a lot more upon reading that.

Yeah, but it's rife with whataboutism. He may consider all competitive transgressions equal, but I don't think we should just take that at face value. Some guys broke rules. Some guys have broken laws. Some have sworn back and forth on their honor that they weren't cheating while they were cheating like fiends. Some lied before Congress. Some maliciously slandered perfectly honorable folks. Nuance, man. Nuance.

My guess about #2 is permanent but a longer time until the review. Perhaps 4 years, which would largely put him outside the window of viability. Another issue is that he will now no longer be a free roster spot. So a team who will soon have to clear two spots for Bruce and Gonzalez would have to clear a third. They could also put him through waivers for the purpose of sending him to the minors, and if somebody bites, c'est la vie.

I don't think WAR over-values or under-values defense, so much as mis-values it, as WAR was developed before the revolution in tracking technology that continues to evolve our understanding of defense. One thing WAR (and her cousins, like fWAR) do mostly well is value defensive position. So while McCutchen is indeed the better bet with the bat, if you look at him as a leftfielder, he's several notches past a secondbaseman on the defensive spectrum, and that shaves off some of that difference. As does the general versatility. How much that shaves off is a point folks will differ on. And certainly folks will differ on how much to dock McCutchen when mentally plugging him into to center when his centering days seem objectively done. Unfortunately, like McCutchen, Harrison's got one year of control left, so that's a factor when weighing sending Nimmo over for either of them.

We don't know what the full package was in the proposed McCutcheon deal. Nor really for this alleged deal.

And he's trimmed the chinbeard down to something a little less goofy. Mark this day on your calendar. It's the day you realized that Lagares was suddenly outhulking Céspedes.

Workout buds Juan Lagares, Amed Rosario, Wilmer Flores, and Yoenis Céspedes share a crotch shot. [tweet:2cae94bn]https://twitter.com/Amed_Rosario/status/953300019905466369[/tweet:2cae94bn]

On a scale of -5 (passionate hate) to +5 (passionate love), the Gonzalez signing come in at +0.5. A half a meh.

I totally see it. Rejecting received wisdom, analysing biases, innovation. All that is part of organizational culture and baseball performance. Diversity isn't the last word, certainly, but it also speaks to marketability. But when Chin-lung Hu hits .050, well, that's gonna precipitate a release no matter what box you check on the census. It's just a thing, but its a thing worth considering. I wouldn't be surprised if the Mets perhaps over-consider it. Nor would I be shocked if there was an unwritten rule out there about carrying at least one African-American on the roster and on the coaching staff.

I read that. It's strange that Rosey doesn't tell us what the full package was. It's the first hint I've had this offseason that he Mets retain some of the regard for Nimmo that I do, so I'm kinda chuffed.

I just realized, this takes out what seemed like a leading player from Christian Yelich market that may or may not exist.

I like how "meh" is just a touch above indifference, while "feh" is just a touch below. I should have incorporated "meh" into the poll.
