Neither seems particularly inspired, but I'm a sucker for a Mets logo on a baseball.

Vegas down 14-7 after four innings, with A.J. Griffin pounded mercilessly by Albuquerque. Lóbaton still in the game. Ty Kelly is 3-3 with two homers.

AND IT PAYS OFF IN SPADES!!!!

Interesting move, Mick.

Oh, Sherlock.

They're pulling this guy? What's wrong with the world?

Tricky? I got the answer. Bunt. Bunt with Rosario. Bunt with Bruce. Get a bunt single and the whole house will come crashing down.

I'm not comfortable with Callaway talking the booth during the gameo.

It's passing strange that Lugo, though nominally a member of the rotation coming out of camp, not only hasn't started a game going into contest #11, but a callup is getting a start before he does. It remains to be seen, but some guys end up on the bullpen track as victims of their own success. I share the notion that Nido is a short-timer, and Lóbaton is likely on his way as soon as they get d'Arnaud's status sorted out. Holy shit! Partial tear of his UCL!

I read the names already in this Ron Kaplan post, which does a great job in explaining how the title of "Cy Young Catcher" is a terribly flimsy hook for O'Brien to hang his mask on. I'd guess Javy Lopez has caught the most ever innings from Cy Young winners while they were actually in the process of winning a Cy Young. OE: Maybe Tim McCarver would be a candidate as well, especially considering the bigger workloads in his time.

Anybody got this one? [fimg=400:3lbdrzgb]https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71G2KH%2BMvkL.jpg[/fimg:3lbdrzgb] I don't know how I've made it this far without a Charlie O'Brien memoir.

Was Miller the one who was publishing technical papers even as his career progressed, or am I thinking of someone else? In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to House of Refuge Sunnyslope, 9835 North 7th St, Phoenix, AZ 85020.

Nobody really notices when triple happiness goes down because the singular happiness of the winning has grown so removed from needing others to lose.

The team thinks they can marginalize Nimmo and flourish anyway. They can't, but they're seemingly getting the message that they can. (All this winning is terrible!) No second lefty out of the pen. The logjam at the butt end of the rotation may be no big whoop when they're winning, but when they're not winning as consistently, and Lugo, Wheeler, Vargas, and maybe Gselly all think that spot belongs to them, folks may get surly. Not enough soap in the hand dispensers. "Piano Man" is still a wet blanket of a seventh-inning stretch song.

I wonder how Neil Walker and Jason Kipnis are doing.

The layout of the 2009 cover is visual reference to the much-reviled Citi Field Dominos logo. Devoting so much space to the blue and orange fields from that logo and so little to the player photos is pretty much sinful.

I like how Mota is signaling himself safe but Crawford hasn't made his call yet. An obvious parallel with 1978 but this time the guy is out. Now I want to start a project in which we make a fake cover for every year featuring a play at the plate from the previous season. Cannizzaro, Hodges, Ortiz, O'Brien. It'll be a parade of catchers and dust.

PAPER MET ALERT!!

If he returns to the active roster before Wright does, it'll be Jenrry Mejia.

Lucky patch:

Nice recovery for an otherwise tough day for Céspedes. Ziegler looks like they put an usher in the game.
