Reyes mentoring Rosario: Amed, no hagas lo que acabo de hacer.

Ten pitches in the first, 1-2-3, topping out at 93. Let's work with that.

Look at this clean-shaven baby-face the Mets have pitching.

I care, man. I care.

The 51s were going to need a roster in time for their opener tomorrow and now they have one. A few surprises are always in store, and he 51s don't disappoint! Pitchers: A.J. Griffin is as-yet unassigned. It wasn't clear whether the Mets were going to deploy him initially as a starter or a reliever, and the answer is ... neither, yet. This allows Chris Flexen to take the fifth slot in the rotation, instead of returning to Bingo, from where he leapfrogged to the big leagues last year. Professor Griff isn't the only late-signed guy brough in on a minor league contract who is waiting on a job. Fernando Abad is also rosterless. With David Roseboom and Kelly Secrest making the cut, 51s manager Tony DeFrancesco brags about having four lefthanded relievers to turn to, even without Abad. Logan Taylor returns to the 51s after his 2017 was cut short after he was physically assaulted. Catchers: The initial group announced is 26 guys, and that includes three catchers. That's the first surprise. I don't know if they initially get a 26-man limit, but reportedly, Jeff Glenn is going to be sort of a catcher/coach, activated as needed. More on that as details become available. The second surprise is that Tomás Nido isn't going west, but returning to Binghamton to try to improve on last year's poor showing there. Infielders: L.J. Mazzilli appears to have finally escaped Bingo. With the team carrying only four outfielders, L.J. will be a super-utility man, possibly seeing more time in the outfield than at second. Jhoan Urena, who was finally healthy and put together a bang-up season in St. Lucie last year, had a chance to make the 51s, but lost out to third-baseman/DH Matt Oberste. Outfielders: Not only are the 51s carrying but four outfielders, but surprisingly, Jayce Boyd and Kevin Kaczmarksi won't be among them. Punchless ballhawk Patrick Biondi appears to have beaten out those two as well as Kevin Taylor, John Mora, and Champ Stuart for the last spot. Bitterness all around! Corey Oswalt says I'm the cuter Corey. I dunno about that. He's probably just saying that I'm small — 5'8", 5'9", but I make up for that in the upper body. I'm astrong, powerful dude. And I'm aiming to be the closer-to-the-majors Corey. And yeah, that's a tough draw. I'm a reliever in Bingo and the numbers game is working against me. But I put up sub-2.00 ERAs each of my first two seasons. I keep the walks down and totally keep the ball in the park. Sinker, slider, changeup. Everything is down. But know what won't be down for long? Me. Waddaya see? Thanks for the bunny intel.

I probably would have recommended calling up Callahan or somebody since it's hopefully just for a few days until Vargas is ready. Robles needs to get some minor league work in to find himself. I'm making a yearbook in 1985, it'd be hard not to make that cover all about Gooden. Or maybe Gooden and Straw, seeing how the team was defending consecutive Rookie of the Year wins.

What's with the rabbit?

I'm big, hairy, Scandanavian, and I have some of the best stuff in ... ever. I have poise, control, and arrogance. And that last one is the tricky part. It can lead me down the road of Seaver, or it can lead me down the road of Harvey. The future is that. Wide. Open. Oh, yeah. I hit a little too. What future do you see? What 2018 do you see? Hurry up. Because I'm already 1-0 with a 6.00 ERA. 1994 looks more like an apparel catalog, and betrays the absence of marquee figures, but it's far superior composition, so I give them that.

Berrios was the diminutive and unlikely hero against the Braves at Disney in this game.

Playing the game right is such a white guy, soft-focus, Texas Godlight notion, where guys in power get to decide after the fact what's not playing the game right. It's pretty discouraging to hear Latinos like Berrios and Rosario talking it up.

It drives me bananas that guys aren't bunting against the shift all the bloody time. Are we really supposed to just shrug and say "well done" when Jay Bruce rips a liner into right and gets thrown out by an infielder playing 100 feet into the outfield?

With Baltimore down 7-0 in the ninth, Chance Cisco dug in against José Berrios. Berrios had been cruising with a one-hitter, with Cisco the author of that one HIT. So Minnesota shifted all their infielders to the right, and Cisco layed a bunt down toward third base. Apparently, that wasn't a very manly thing to do, because it kicked up the stupidest controversy ever. Let me go on record. If teams are super-shifting against the Mets, go ahead and bunt-bunt-bunt. If the Mets are super-shifting against other teams, go ahead and bunt-bunt-bunt. Play baseball. Play to win.

So, yeah, whatever you think my year might look like might possibly have something to do with the news you hear in the next few hours. But come on? No opinions on Drew Smith? None on Brian Chicklo? Hang in there, people of New York. Almost done. Meanwhilst, I'm a late-career bloomer who was the Mets first free agent signee this offseason, and so folks associate me with their frustrations. But I look to be part of the late-inning picture and take some of the heat off of Familia and co. Bad choice? Well, Sandy has had a handful of contracts handed to relievers go south, but I'm real durable. At least I was, until yesterday. Where do we go from here? Rosters aren't really solidified yet. My bet is that Thompson the Headless Roland Gunner makes it to Vegas.

Yankees lose as Kevin Pillar pulls a Dead Ball Era feat that I had long hoped to see, stealing second, third, and home in the same inning off of Dellin Betances.
