I'm all about worrying about tomorrow tomorrow. We're gonna see some sexy Gerson Bautista out there tonight. I'm all about that action too.

Second most stolen bases as a Met? Mookie! Come on! Don't come at me with that crap, Verizon! What a stinky-poo inning.

Adrian Gonzalez and José Bautista. Released by the Braves Killing the Braves.

Way to burn your challenge, Mr. Snitker.

I heard the tomahawk and went to bed And Chick'saw cries did fill my head For though my team could yet surprise Foreboding smoke obscured the skies I saw ghostdancers from great length Distant shadows great in strength When wisps of hope passed through my heart The laughter grew, they broke apart I heard Coyote howl at night Iguana slithered, crow took flight The Mets could win! I loudly said But Hawk still circled overhead The great war cry grew louder still Ten thousand Braves moved in to kill Aaron Matthews Glavine Spahn I cursed them all (plus Fred Wilpon) But I am not the type to weep If Rocker doth disturb my sleep I said a prayer, I set my clock With no more thoughts of tomahawk For even in a losing streak Sunrise comes o'er yonder peak A new morn in my window pane A new chance for the Mets again But lo, what's there beside my bed? My phone still has a charge, it said! "An 8-5 win?! What's THAT, you say?" THE TOMAHAWK BE MINE TODAY!

I'll take Vargas over random Met fan. Nothing scientific, just a hunch. I guess this helps explain why he was pulled after 78 pitches his last turn.

I'm choosing to think we are more likely to be looking at of an abundance of caution than a severely compromised pitcher. I'm guessing it's a mild strain that he aggravates every turn of the rotation. Syndergaard has been consistently good, but also consistently sub-optimal. So he misses a start or two, with days off the fourth and the seventh, keeping them from having to dig too deeply to replace him, and if all goes well, he's at his best for a weekend showcase start at home against the Yankees. If all goes really well, Swarzak will be in the pen to support him. As to why they're playing with 24 guys today ... I got nothin'. Swarzie made his debut today with the 51s, pitching one shutout inning, allowing one hit (a leadoff bunt single toward out-of-position thirdbaseman Patrick Kivlehan), struck out two, and walked off with a win.

It's interesting that, considering the broad range of injuries to the starting rotation in 2017, the team currently has no starters (unless you count Montero, who wasn't a projected part of the rotation going in) on the DL. They have three relievers (four, if you count 40-man roster guy Jamie Callahan), one catcher (two until yesterday), four infielders (two of whom you knew would be hurt going in), and two outfielders sucking up DL time. They have had two starters do the DL. Vargas missed the first month and a stretch of spring training. deGrom did a short stint missing the equivalent of two starts. Conforto also didn't get his spring in. This isn't really what bothers me about the Mets, except insofar as I think their weight trainer is a reckless maniac.

Yeah, I don't think that kind of saving is in the cards. The first priority is going to be getting Plawecki/Frazier/Céspedes back into the rotation, and doing it in a way that doesn't marginalize Nimmo. Hopefully when this goes down, it'll be Gonzalez (who has shown facility as a pinch-hitter) who mostly gets rotated out, and Bruce to a lesser degree. And yeah, maybe Smith displaces them both, but he's not hitting right now. The season is long and hard. It would help if they didn't have to carry 21 relief pitchers. /*yells at cloud

Yeah, as Nimmo futiley tried to throw out the tying run, it was Bruce who let the go-ahead run get in scoring position by not cutting the throw off. I guess some sloppiness is supposed to be expected with players out of position. (Reyes frequently looks lost at third, but he's there only after Wright, Frazier, and Flores have gone down, and he's sharing the job with a minor league shortstop.) They have to tighten up their play. I guess that's DiSarcina's role as the only infielder on their big league coaching staff.

Centerfield wrote: Was shocked to check the score this morning and see that the Mets had won. Good job by the offense to rally after our starter gave back and early lead yet again. Conlon will probably get other chances, and probably deserves them, but it's going to be hard to find a way to win with an 85-mile-per-hour fastball.

So, Mickey's philosophy of (1) not using the same reliever in both ends of a doubleheader, (2) keeping your #1 guy out of Game One, (3) sticking to that even if Game One is the classic relief ace situation of trying to preserve a one-run lead, and (4) sticking to that even if your Game One alternative is faltering ... seemingly needs work.

Yeah, it's hard to ask for in such an ensemble piece, but I wonder if the movie could have tried to focus on a single protagonistic point of view, sort of like the last Captain America (maybe the last two Captains America) were Avengers movies, but anchored in Steve's story. I guess the closest to a protagonist would have been Tony Stark, but it would have been terrific if it could have been built around Peter Parker, as a Skywalkerian fool stumbling into a Cosmic war beyond the wildest imagining of his young, provincial life, following the white hart into the woods, and trying to keep his head above water as he realizes he suddenly has a key role in a clash of gods.
