  1. What a futile hack by Reyes for strike three.
  2. Yup. It'd be nice if Nola could watch his lead go after his exit the way deGrom frequently has had to.
  3. Not sure why Lugo pitches until he's demonstrably gassed, but Gsellman gets two batters and Familia three, totaling 21 pitches between them.
  4. Lefty Specialist wrote: So they share duties? That's kind of weird. So if Todd gets hit by a pitch, will Cosell yell, "Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier!!" Please tell me Cosell played this card when Frazier's DL assignment was announced.
  5. OK, this game could use some Conforting.
  6. Rosario looks like he'd be a heckuvan outfielder.
  7. Cabrera's sixth in fWAR among NL secondbaseman. He'd be a higher (and a defensible All-Star choice), but his baserunning has been pedestrian and his defense an unambiguous negative. Of course, that was before today's homerun. Tomorrow's data may disagree.
  8. Vic Sage wrote: Jacques Cousteau, said "one thing we have with him [McNeil] is he's purely a second baseman. Obviously (Asdrubal) Cabrera is kind of holding that down for us right now." For the record, McNeil has had a significant number of games at 3b (about 2/3rds of the number of games at 2b), with some at SS and in the OF, too, including some games there this season. 148 minor league games at third, including being ranked there as a prospect. I can think of half a dozen reasons to call up Kelly instead of McNeil, but this was a Jerry Manuel answer.
  9. I personally don't have the experience to categorize Frazier's or Bruce's style of lovemaking. That's quite evocative.
  10. What was the handle of our old nickname maven?
  11. 12. That is truish. I thought he walked enough to qualify as a 3TO guy, but not as a model version.
  13. By the way, love that old-timey background on Ryley Gilliam's photo. Keep up the good work, Brooklyn photo editor.
  14. Krusher Davis is an object lesson for everybody as we fumble with the three-true outcomes, clout-or-a-whiff era that is producing some of the most boring baseball in decades. Signing him after 2013 would have been worthy of celebration. Signing him after 2015 would have been understandable. Signing him after 2016 (.221 batting average! 219 strikeouts!!) was courting disaster. He's probably not finished. Adam Dunn had a few more reasonably productive years after his disastrously whifftastic 2011, but it's a highly volatile skill set, that you want to be careful about anchoring your team's fates too.
  15. So, it looks like a mostly successful draft year so far. The vast majority of non-signees came from the butt end of the draft, and while many or most of the signings seemed to offer the players below-slot $$, those players were also drafted lower than MLB had them ranked, for whatever either of those are worth. Also, there are a lot of guys off to encouragingly blistering starts, and those who are misfiring at the start if their careers are mostly, again, guys from the back end. If you give the Mets 40 points for signing a first-rounder and one point for signing a 40th-rounder, they scored 755 out of 820 potential signing points, or 92.07%. 16. You gotta be unmarried to be pope. My money is on Evans.
  17. A Boy Named Seo wrote: In Round 19, the Mets drafted the son of the actor who played "Biff" in "Back to the Future"! http://www.fullertontitans.com/sports/m-basebl/2017-18/bios/wilson_tommy_6a68 That's actually kind of a neat factoid. I'm gonna adopt this slacker. [tweet] [/tweet] Biff Jr. has appeared in one game so far for Brooklyn, pitching two perfect innings.
  18. Art Howe was Mr. Clean. Willie Randolph was WWSB. Jerry was Gangsta Jerry. Terry was White Jerry. Callaway has gone too long without a nickname. Already submitted in another thread: "One-and-Done" and "Clueless Callaway." I'll submit "Mickey Fallaway." Because holy smokes, they've been falling away for three months.
  19. Well, this was a shart-filled undergarment of a game, maybe as much as any this year, so you certainly picked the right one to skip and enjoy your day. Mickey Callaway needs a nickname.
  20. Recent first-round draft choice Jarred Kelenic is off and running, receiving a promotion to Kingsport after KRUSHING it in his initial dozen games with the GCL Mets, going .413 / .451 / .609 // 1.060 with 1 homer and 9 RBI in his first 51 plate appearances. He's also 4-for-4 in the stolen base department.
  21. I don't think it's necessarily a matter of depth. I don't think a team in the Mets position should be burying both Lugo and Gsellman in the pen. That's a deployment issue, not appreciating that such talent has a higher value starting the rubber game rather than sitting in the pen waiting for a situation that's never going to come.
  22. This game totally ruined Ken Sanders 77th birthday for me.
  23. Well, Peterson can pitch a little anyhow.
