Good one. One more draftee put his name on the bottom line just ahead of the signing deadline. Jaylen plays a little outfield too and will probably be moved around a little when he reports to to the Gulf Coast League. And Bautista making only his second start at the hot corner as a Met.

Benjamin Grimm wrote: Speaking of next year's second baseman, they should be using the rest of the season to find out if that might be Jeff McNeil. My money is on Mac coming up for the first game after the All-Star Break.

Well, a big part of why trades are made is because two teams have different assessments of some players' value. And sometimes, one of those teams is more right than the other. Otherwise, why give up good players, mediocre players, or bad players, if you're just going to get the same in return?

He's arbitration eligible going into 2019 and a free agent after that. I think the idea would presumably be that they would get younger and more controllable talent. The Dodgers are desperate at second base and may be a landing spot for him or Cabrera.

Homegrown, appealing, with a long résumé full of big moments, and possibly (probably?) the Mets' best hitter right now, Wilmer Flores has done everything you could hope for, short of securing a position for himself. But that's a big step he has continually failed to make, and one he has perhaps two remaining weeks to accomplish, as much or most speculation suggests he's about the most tradable commodity the Mets have. [fimg=400:2w3wln08]https://www.gannett-cdn.com/-mm-/7d34aed3ff930d9492833c40f0bca57f1d516ba5/c=0-0-731-975/local/-/media/2018/07/09/Bergen/NorthJersey/636667698245226647-bx101-362c-9.jpg?width=534&height=712&fit=crop[/fimg:2w3wln08]

Nah, it can sometimes get you in a better situation. Harvey for Meso has worked.

Tough break, Engelberg.

I'm not sure "healing" is a likely outcome for plantar fasciitis. Through therapy, you can minimize the frequency and severity of flareups, but I don't think it's ever going to disappear from his book. There is a surgery, but that's probably a six-month recovery and it's not without it's downside.

Met prospects all over the place in the Eastern League All-Star Game. Nabil Crismatt unfortunately missed the game following his recent callup to Las Vegas. Levi Michael started the game at third and went 1-2 with a triple and a run scored. Patrick Mazeika came off the bench and caught the second half-ish of the game, going 1-2 with a run scored. Tim Tebow DH'd the whole game and went 1-4 with a double. David Roseboom got the only batter he faced, getting Joe Sever on a can of corn to left. The only Bingo blemish belonged to Daniel Zamora who threw 1 1/3 scoreless, but allowed one of his two inherited runners to score on a sacrifice fly, earning a blown save in a game that ultimately ended in a 4-4 tie. That makes nobody happy. They should have pitched Tebow.

Lest it go unsaid, terrific post-game interview by Wyoming Smiley.

So, this is worth talking about. Molina hadn't been fooling anybody this year, but that makes it even more likely he could have cleared waivers. If he doesn't, it's the same, effectively as a release, except the Mets don't carry his salary. Also eligible for a pass through waivers was the recently debuting Drew Gagnon. Most obviously, they could have retroactively put Yoenis Céspedes on the 60-Day DL, having already covered 58 of those days. But nope, it's an exit instead through a trap door for Molina, who was listed as among the team's top two or three prospects after a great 2014 in Brooklyn, before getting derailed by injuries, and then pitching his way back onto prospect lists (but not in the lofty position of previous years) with a solid 2017. Keith openly speculated that he was in somebody's doghouse, while Ronnie suggested that he was a victim of the new regime, having lost his champion when Alderson stepped down.

Look at those 51s celebratin'!!

Show us the idiot on the field !!

And ... the fucking shift wins again.

ALL WE NEED IS ONE PIN, RODNEY!!

Rosario works a walk. Unlikely things can happen!

deGrom is so awesome, he should have a Saturday morning cartoon about him.

As Matt dD tracked down his second deep drive in the right-centerfield gap, Gary said, "It's good to have a centerfielder in centerfield." As a fan and a half of Nimmo, I want to say that it was cheap, but it was fair and square.

Conforto. Into the shift.

I doubt it. I mean, it's not like they're supporting the rest of their starters.

And man, the Phillies just out-head-in-the-game-d the Mets all over the field on that play.
