That's sort of remarkable. They'll be one of only two teams in the International League to share the name of the parent club. (There are 2 1/2 such teams in the PCL.) I don't think the Mets have ever had a AAA team that shares their name.

I predict a wonderful 2019. Deadly, in fact.

There was a lot of success going around, but little of it happened a the same time, allowing for them to make a sustained run, and little of it happened in the outfield, excepting six weeks or so of Tim Tebow. Champ Stuart and Patrick Biondi continue to be a yin and yang of centerfield ineptitude. Both are blazingly fast and both struggle every year to achieve an OPS of .600. One is black, and the other white, and one is lefty and the other righty, so maybe if they are ever healthy at the same time, they can platoon together and create something more credible, or perhaps approaching credible. But at least they remain in the system. Gene Cone and Ian Strom got they asses released, and Jhoan Urena, Kevin Taylor, John Mora all become minor league free agents.

Jubilee has appeared in a few of the X-Men films, though I don't tend to watch those. She has been portrayed by Katrina Florece, Kea Wong, and Lana Condor.

There was an Asian-Asgardian who was part of Thor's pack, who stood tall in Ragnorok before getting killed by Cate Blanchett. There are two (or one and half, maybe) Asian-Americans in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. One of them (or the half) is even super-powered. Some second-generation folks have been Asian-American in the comic bookz. A latter-day Hulk was a Chinese-American named Amadeus Cho. I think the mantle of Batwoman was taken on by an Asian-American. Silk is a Korean-American who also got bitten by Peter Parker's spider. The X-Men had Japanese dude Sunfire, who nobody liked, and Jubilee, the daughter of Chinese immigrants in California. She has been mostly pretty popular, as she sort of first appeared as sort of a Mary Sue character. Psylocke the psionic started off as a Brit, but ended up Asian-American after the psyche entered a nu body or something.

The point is that I don't know what the truth is, or what his actions are, at least as far as imposing on Sandy Alderson's role. I'm doing guesswork. Sometimes educated guesswork. And I'm not speaking to what is an acceptable answer (certainly the truth is, whatever that may be), but what he has been damned for.

I have no idea, for the most part, what Jeff Wilpon has done. And if neither yes nor no is an acceptable answer, it doesn't matter. His best bet is shutting up. Names I don't want to hear associated with the GM search: Bill Bavasi, Omar Minaya, Steve Phillips, Lee Mazzilli, John Franco, Dave Stewart. I'm trying to think if I could plausibly entertain the idea of Ruben Amaro, Jr. (Hell, maybe he's been the designated successor all along, and has just been hanging out in the first base coach's box to get the lay of the land.) There's some names I regard badly but have been associated with some success, like Allard Baird, and some I regard highly despite being associated with failed regimes, like Frank Wren. That's a hard fence to sit on.

I agree that it's lose-lose. If he says he gave Alderson authority, he's a coward, if he says he didn't, he's a meddler. We'll see how it plays out. I have my disagreements with Alderson, but if they walk away with someone I regard as highly as him, who has the juice that he had to allow for independence, I'll be over the moon.

I would love to be the Mets GM. I've already slept with a LOT of people to better position myself. Like, a LOT.

Fat, drunk and fourth place is no way to go through life, but ultimately that was the fate of your 2018 Binghamton Rumble Ponies. They were never really the same team after the promotions of Jeff McNeil and Pete Alonso. The Mets deserve some credit, not merely pushing some guys up from Columbia to replace but brought in indy league star Josh Allen and big-league vet Joey Terdaslovich, respectively, to replace the two breakout stars, but those holes were never quite filled, and the two return to the free agent list this winter. In late summer, former footballer Tim Tebow surprisingly emerged as something of an emerging offensive star, before a broken wrist ended his season, and the last hopes of Bingo didn’t last much longer. But there were others emerging. Shortstop Levi Michael, another indy league refugee, OPS’d at .861 with some power and some speed before he too went down with a wrist injury. Outfielder Jhoan Urena came on strong late with an .854 OPS after the All-Star Break. Still struck out too much, but he probably secured himself a ticket to Syracuse, although I think he first has to survive the Rule 5 draft. Anchoring the rotation was a bittersweet role for Mickey Jannis. On the one hand, it was probably his best season yet, knuckling up a 3.60 ERA over 142 innings. On the other hand, he opened the season in Las Vegas, got hit hard in his first two starts, took his demotion like a man, and never got called back despite his success. Yeah, knuckleballers can bloom late, but Mick is 30 and has now thrown almost all of 3 1/2 seasons for Binghamton. He was a free agent last season and re-signed, but if somebody else gives him a chance this year, I think he’s going to jump ship. Nabil Crismatt (8-6, 3.59 ERA) in 2/3 of a season, and Justin Dunn (6-5, 4.22 ERA in half a season) also showed themselves to be rotation assets. But the real excitement came out of the pen, as Joshua Torres grabbed the bull by the horns, winning 9 games against 0 losses (!!) as he threw 45 1/3 innings, striking out 58 and walking but 14, for an ERA of 1.19. (In direct contrast, former prospect Harol Gonzalez but up an opposite line of 0-9 / 7.79, and somehow managed to avoid the reaper. The Rumble Ponies set an all-time attendance record in 2018, and Syracuse giving Met fans two places to stop on a swing upstate (three, counting Cooperstown), that trend is sure to continue. Organizational big shots Dunn, Andres Gimenez, David Peterson and Anthony Kay look to join the fun in The Valley of Opportunity in 2019. Life being what it is, the 2019 roster thread is launching a little late. For that I apologize, but hey, you know the lay of the land. The Starting Pitchers project as the stablest unit. You can say what you want about The Mickmeister, but for whatever reason, the team’s starting pitchers all seem to have finished the season healthy, and that reflects on him and his staff. They also all tended to all finish the season strong, even if Steven Matz had spots of stickiness over the summer, and Jason Vargas spent the top of the season injured and the middle of it double-stinky. One thing that they have had coming into seasons in recent years has been a depth chart of 8-10 guys ready to step in. That’s the sort of good luck that’s partially been a byproduct of bad luck, as a lot of guys have stepped into rotations in previous years, causing a bigger corral of options to develop as everybody gets healthy. Not so much this year, as the team maintained it’s health the second half of the season, and even when there were spot starts to be had, none among Corey Oswald, Drew Gagnol, P.J. Conlon, etc. particularly hinted at big league readiness, but I Mickey seemed committed to keeping Oswald in the rotation and getting him as much experience as he could. I think Gagnol comes out of spring training the sixth guy, though. In a much bigger state of instability is the Bullpen. Only two spots seem locked up. While most recent callups had their moments here and there, only Drew Smith showed consistency, but even he’s got no guarantees. Look for one or two vests to be brought in for meaningful $$, as well as some other moves. Also facing a lot of question marks is the corps of Catchers. While Travis d’Arnaud could be ready for opening day, that’s probably not most likely. Kevin Plawecki had his moments, both on offense and defense, but if anything, he established that he can be a big league backup. They may not go large, but I expect a starting-quality veteran to join the staff in 2019 — a Barajas or something. The Infield is largely set, with second occupied by a guy blessed with productivity that’s been as consistent as it has been surprising, short occupied by a guy blessed by organizational commitment, and third blessed by a guy with top-dollar contract. Only first is open — and that could fall to a guy who is not necessarily healthy (Flores), a guy who is not necessarily established (Smith), and a guy who is not necessarily on the roster (Alonso). I don’t think we’ll be finding out the answer anytime soon. T.J. Rivera should be healthy by then, however, and hopefully finds his way back to the spot on the depth chart he had when he got hurt. The Mets don’t have a fifth outfielder for the time being, but if there is to be such a roster sport, instead of 100th reliever, Smith probably spent enough time to be penciled in there for now. He could break camp as a guy that divides his time between left, first, and coming off the bench. Heck, it’s how he finished 2018. Not so much this year, as the team maintained it’s health the second half of the season, and even when there were spot starts to be had, none among Corey Oswald, Drew Gagnon, P.J. Only first is open — and that could fall to a guy who is not healthy (Flores), a guy who is not established (Smith), or a guy who is not on the roster (Alonso), or perhaps some combination. I don’t think we’ll be finding out the answer anytime soon. T.J. Rivera should be healthy by then however, and hopefully finds his way back to the spot on the depth chart he had when he got hurt. The Mets don’t have a fifth outfield for the time being, but if there is to be such a roster sport, instead of 100th reliever, Smith probably spent enough time to be penciled in there for now. He could break camp as a guy that divides his time between left, first, and coming off the bench. Heck, it’s how he finished 2018. I like d’Arnaud and I like Plaw, but catcher seems like the softest spot to improve at right now. Lenny, in charges stemming the Uber incident, faces indictment for coke possession, meth possession, making terroristic threats, each with a 3-5 year sentence attached. That's coming from TMZ, so, you know, grain of salt, but it doesn't sound particularly unexpected.
