WHO'S ON DECK? isn't much in the way of content (it must've been a slow news day), but it's easily the top out there in terms of composition.

I'm certain that there will indeed be a slate of high-profile rock biopics. Rocketman is due in Summer 2019, and if they get two hits out of two, there will be so many put into development that they will still be coming out years after folks have stopped buying. Strangely, contemporary rock 'n' roll is scarcely marketable at all, but rock 'n' roll rehashes (films, Broadway shows, wheelchair tours, hologram tours ...) couldn't be more lucrative.

Smiff may be the #5 outfielder already, depending on the status of Wilmer Flores.

Do Steamboat projections get updated if the Mets suddenly deal off Bruce and Flores, or Smith enrolls in divinity school?

He started in center, but for a disastrously bad team. He also has a lousy walk rate. As a bench player, they can certainly do worse, but if he was a Met, I wouldn't be giving him regular time even before Céspedes returns.

Yeah, getting in the mindset that this is the deal that has to happen is another way of saying "Screw me, please."

Thanks for keeping up. And congratulations to to new Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen or Randy VanWarmer, or Alex Van Halen or whoever for his first Mets transaction, even he quite possibly has no idea what he just did. Then it doesn't get done. If you go into a deal from the perspective that you "need" the target, you're in a good position to not only get beat, but get taken to cleaners.

I'm not sure that's going to be particularly do-able.

Rhino's best game was his last, coming in for a hamstrung Brandon Nimmo in that long extra-inning excursion in the penultimate game. He ended up having a Nimmo of a game, going 1-1 with two walks in a game the Mets ultimately won 1-0 in 16 innings. He even stole the first, and thus far only, base of his career, off of future-Mets catcher Bryan Holaday.

Is this going to incorporate songs into the narrative to try to Mamma Mia it up? Because, while I'd enjoy seeing something like a faithful dramatization of Queen's story, I'm not that interested in seeing a Queen (and I imagine it's going to be 90% Freddy) jukebox musical.

This has happened before. And could well happen again. It's not just the Mets.

Marty Noble wrote a while back about a homer that McCovey hit above the clock at Busch Stadium. It would supposedly be the first topic of conversation when Tim McCarver and Al Jackson would meet every spring in St. Lucie. "Tim, why'd you call that pitch?" "Me?! Why'd YOU hang it?"

About 92% of that award was earned in the first half of the year, though. What do you think? Is this guy bound for the rotation or the pen? On the one hand, it was his conversion to starter in college that launched him from dark horse into first-round status. On the other hand, his poor second half brings back questions about his durability.

Nymr83 wrote: yup. for everything that might got better there is something that might get worse. I don't think this is definitively true. I mean, it might be true. But it's not a 50/50 proposition. Younger players tend to get better. Older players tend to get worse. Players coming off years below their career baselines tend to bounce back. Players coming off years above their career baselines tend to fall back. Some injuries undermine a year. Others undermine a career. It's nuanced stuff. Each case is different, but obviously standing pat on a .500 team filled with 24-year-olds is more justifiable than standing pat on a .500 team filled with 36-year-olds.

Dunnie is a tough call for the rotation or the bullpen. He didn't up his stock to anything like first-round level until he moved to the rotation in college, but his blistering first half followed by a weak second half this season brought back concerns about his durability.

I assume that the recusing would have a long shelf life, quite possibly for the rest of said players' careers. That roster includes the above plus Céspedes, Frazier, and Tebow, as well as future-Mets Rusney Castillo, Ryan Zimmerman, and Robinson Canó. I don't know if the agreement would keep him out of negotiations with clients from his agency's roster that he didn't represent directly, but I imagine that would be likely as well. If that means Ricco reporting directly to Wilpon, well, that's been done before, so it's workable. If Jeff negotiates directly in such cases, that's a little more unsettling.

I'm not sure what makes him a snake oil salesman any more than any other prospective job seeker. If Jacob deGrom is snake oil, then rub me down with it.

Seems like circular logic (or Catch-22 logic, at least) to suggest that the Mets hired the wrong guy which is demonstrable because he was hired by the Mets.

It's as relevant as, say, Sandy Alderson's or Frank Cashen's when they got their first GM appointments. Probably moreso. Sandy Alderson was hired in 1981. Frank Cashen in the 60's. We are living in a different world. A move can't be "innovative" if the parallels are from several decades ago. If your goal is sustained success, the candidate that best maximized our chances at achieving that is Chaim Bloom. Again, unless the Wilpons are privy to information that we don't know. But nothing presented to us backs that up. Nothing has been shown that this move is in, any way, "innovative". "Strange" yes. Innovative, no. Well, there are several contemporary precedents of agents that have become team executives in baseball and other sports. Beyond that, I disagree that a move can't be innovative if parallels are from several decades ago. The nature of innovation doesn't necessitate parallels at all. Beyond that, I don't accept the notion that this or any other hiring has to be justified as innovative to be correct.

Great, now Wright's going to re-emerge in 10 years managing the Dodgers and then the Marlins.

That would be the Don't Ogle My Unsurpassable Spouse Gala. The Edgys are regular attendees.
