  1. Why is there no camera tracking the balls? I'm just watching a guy swing.
  2. How furious are the #MAGA trolls to hear Spanish interviews in the middle of a Unitedstatesican event?
  3. Kinda tubby tho. I think Frazier is the all-time leader in Derby homers or something.
  4. Alex Bregman is a heckuva player, but every time I hear his name as a player for Houston, my first thought is that he's an off-brand knockoff of Lance Berkman.
  5. I don't get how the bracket features three National Leaguers and an American Leaguer on the right and three American Leaguers and a National Leaguer on the left. Is there an N vs. A element to this anymore?
  6. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: I'm real intrigued by moving him to center. It might take some learning on the job but that's what SHaM seasion is for (because the Mets sure as hell don't work out the tough stuff in Spring Training). My god what an unprepared-looking bunch they are. That whole, "I'm not going to have Smith work out in the outfield at all this spring" plan was amazing since a second grader could have predicted he'd be needed there at some point.
  7. I'm caught between "I'm just an alienated guy and there's always going to be a part of every season where I just emotionally check out" and "some days, my shoulder hurts so bad I want to scream."
  8. =whippoorwill post_id=15361 time=1562604049 user_id=79] Rosario beardless is a good idea if only because he wouldn't look like a total doofus
  9. If Mickelmas' regularly occurring flip-flops on the stuff like closer usage are based on policies forced on him, he's gonna have a helluva lot to sing about once he's sprung. It seems easy enough to me. Even if you have a policy set in stone, don't describe it as such. It sets you up to look stupid and gives free opposition research to the guy in the other dugout. >>> "Mickey, was it an option to use Diaz in the eighth? >>> >>> "Well, as it stands now, we didn't think it was best to deploy our resources that way. That doesn't mean that in a similar situation going forward, we will or won't play it the same way." >>> "So, you're saying that you currently have a hard rule to use your closer only in the ninth?" >>> >>> "Absolutely not. It's how we approached it tonight. Now, hindsight is 20/20, but on the other hand, we'd be fools not to continually learn from how situations play themselves out in real games. In fact, I've got a meeting with my coaches right now." >>> "Thanks for your time, Mick." >>> >>> "Thank you guys." >>> "See you tomorrow." >>> >>> "WHO THE FUCK FUCKING SAID THAT?!! WHO?! VARGAS, DID YOU SEE WHO SAID THAT?!!!"
  10. 6. Lineup is sub-optimal for run production. >> Bat Alonso fourth, and if workable (Nimmo somehow returns or Lowrie shows ability at the top of the lineup) McNeil third. >> If you have to leave McNeil at leadoff, then bat Smitty third. >> Drop Canó to seventh, and if he has half the character folks have been insisting he has, he'll welcome the chance to hit his way back into the heart of the order. The reality check will be an important precedent for his demotion to pinch hitter next year. Syndergaard the Closer would be an epic story.
  11. Ooooh, Ozzie's in the Darling Club too! https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/i6wAAOSwLF1X7SyL/s-l1600.jpg>
  12. Sweetness, too: https://www.sicovers.com/content/images/thumbs/0003997_walter-payton-the-hero-no-one-knew.jpeg> You can barely make out the kangaroo silhouette from that version, but here's a slightly larger crop: http://blog.magazines.com/images/2011/10/sports_illustrated_magazine_walter_payton_20111003_detail.jpg>
  13. I like the setting the nominally active guys — Céspedes, Nimmo, and Rivera — in bold italics. Of course, I tend to think of Canó as "nominally active" even when he's in the lineup, but to say that out loud would be mean.
  14. Here's a thought, if they're going to invite back Johnny Amazin' and Julio Baseballcard for an autograph session and visits to the booth, why don't they make bobbleehads and shit honoring those guys?
  15. =whippoorwill post_id=15338 time=1562595047 user_id=79] I wonder what this press conference could possibly be about. I mean we all are thinking ‘Manager change' but why on earth put it off for a week? But why put anything else off for a week either? Weirdness.
  16. Well, I went for the Darling cover, but as exciting as it is to see your team worthy of the work of some great photographers, it's an even rarer treat to see the best illustrators tackle the subject.
  17. Francisco Cervelli is https://www.yahoo.com/sports/francisco-cervelli-pirates-concussions-catcher-214419636.htmldone catching after his sixth concussion. I can't say I don't support his move, but in a season that he's been hurt and hitting terribly when he hasn't been, it's going to be difficult for him to demonstrate his value at another position. It's sort of like the barrel Eli Marrero had the Mets over back in 2006. He was done with catching, but couldn't hit enough anymore to validate his existence elsewhere.
  18. The team's main question about Girardi is the right one: Do his hard work, skill and intelligence outweigh his intensity, which can be stifling? Well, it's not like Mickey's intensity hasn't upset the apple cart, now, is it? Lunchbucket once published a fantastic glossary of euphemisms writers use when talking about an asshole: Troubled : black guy who is an asshole. Fiery : Latino guy who is an asshole. Intense : white guy who is an asshole.
  19. The Mets aren't taking the more righteous road in this beanie war. And they're certainly not coming out on top strategically.
  20. Does Mickey need to be told he can use his starters out of the bullpen today?
  21. Two out, two on, McNeil up, and Alonso the potential tying run on deck. May be the last, best hope here.
  22. Shmargas laughing at Hoskins getting hit.
  23. It's like aluminum bat baseball out there. You not only have to miss the barrel; you have to miss the whole bat. At least, it is for Mets pitchers. For Mets batters, I dunno.
