I think I pooped.

Oh, glub. That 2-2 pitch was a strike.

Land-o-Lakes!

Let's go, Vulture.

These fans are invested.

Strap in.

Classicklugo.

Thanks for the four hits, Conforto, but you could have stayed in the pickle for a moment or two.

Man, it hurts my back when I see Alonso lurch at that slider away below the knees.

C'mon McNeil. Be the guy you were before you were traded to the SHaMs.

Oh, Canó, you lucky, lucky doggie.

How the devil have the Mets gotten through the last two innings with only one run scored? Also, I have to say, these Twins are, like, mutant-big. Every one of them scares the shit out of me. I knew they hit a prodigious amount of homers, but it didn't occur to me that they'd all look like Pete Alonso's big brothers. They're like the Gashouse Gorillas.

Well, the tenure of Matz in the pen was brief. Let's see if he learned anything. Also, let's see if Rhamey can shave a bit off that 8.10 ERA. I went for Doc because of composition. That grey sky blur works against Willie. But I love that cover and I love Mays and I love him coming home.

I kind of hijacked the narrative in the Casey-v.-Darling thread with shoe talk. The ROOS reference was to a series of threads 12 years back called Mets by the Footware, which I went back to find. A lot of the photos are gone but we were trying (and failing) to make Met teams representing each brand of shoe. The next two batters struck out, but right-fielder Freddy Valdez put one in play that was botched by Orioles second-baseman Hector León, bringing pinch-runner Famin Rodriguez in with the walkoff run. The victory raised the AlphaMets' record to 18-15, sitting in fourth place in the nine-team Dominican Summer League South Division, four and a half games out of first and two games ahead of the DSL Yankees. Starting to get ahead of everybody is starting pitcher Alan Ramirez. The Battering Ram has gone four innings (that's good in 2019!) in each of his last three starts, giving up only four runs in those 12 innings. His last outing featured eight strikeouts and just one walk. Again, that was in four innings. That's good! Far better, however, has been Christian Olivero. The Magic Chrisitan has appeared in five games this season, covering 12 1/3 innings, and given up ... one hit. ONE. He's gotten in some trouble with walks (six, against 11 strikeouts), and so gave up one run, back in his first game, but since then he's been one untouchable 19-year-old. Part of the reason he's so untouchable is that he doesn't have to face shorstop Federico Polanco. But the rest of the league does, and they have the scars to prove it. El Federale has been the Jeff McNeil of the DR, slashing his way to a .344 / .411 / .489 // .900. If you see this guy in the mirror behind you, it's already too late for you. That's no small sample size, neither. Steady Feddie has had 145 plate appearances across 32 games. Nine of his 44 hits have gone for doubles and a five have gone for triples — third in the whole giant circuit. Tomorrow, they visit the DSL Phillies Red. Drink will flow and blood will spill. ROOS (aka KangaROOS) were a goofy entry into the 1980s athletic footwear market, known for the kangaroo silhouette logo and pockets built into the shoe so jocks could hold onto their key, their change, or their jewelry while going at it. In the US, they became something of a punchline as the Sneaker Wars progressed, but they managed to become the shoe of choice for such athletic big shots as Walter Payton, Ozzie Smith, The Fridge, O.J. Anderson, and our own Ron Darling. https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2019/07/roos-2.jpg> https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2019/07/roos-1.jpg> I was joking about Casey, of course. They probably weren't bad, but culturally, they became the Garanimals of footwear. Only LA Gear was more derided. It ain't about the sneakers! Turn up the speakers!

I'm thinking Diaz needs an offspeed pitch. It's all fastballs and hard sliders, and while the movement on both is impressive, it would help more if he had a slop pitch to throw batters timing off. It doesn't have to even be a good one. Just something to toss out of the strike zone to keep people from getting their timing down on him. It was similar with Billy Wagner, who was pounding it in on batters' hands but it would take 10 or 11 pitches to put batters away, with the advantage slipping away with every pitch.

A lot of guys look like they were deliberately named to be Mets. There's also a Jordany Ventura in the system. Name your kid Mookie Strawberry and see if the Mets draft him.
