No, just some idiot decided not to schedule baseball on the fourth of July, so we have to celebrate something else on the fifth.

In the great Mets tradition of battling it out on the July 5 after spending a quiet, introspective Independence Day off with family, the Mets and Jacob deGrom host Vince Velasquez and the Phillies, while all in attendance will be buzzing with excitement for the commemoration of the 328 grand opening of Constatine's Bridge, spanning the Danube between Sucidava and Oescus, built 17 centuries ago and still one of the longest river spans ever.

Your point stands. The only problem I have with BVW taking in a game with the 7-Line Army is that it wasn't with The Crane Pool Army. We had some cool shirts going here back in the day. We had some great concepts, but didn't put as much time into the artwork and development and didn't effectively monetize it, and the 7-Line did. I think we push more interesting perspectives here, but they grew from hard work while we shrunk. Fair fucks to them.

41 Seaver Way.

Just in case this should go un-noticed, the DSL Yankees edged by the DSL Twins 2 last night, https://www.milb.com/gameday/dsl-yankees-vs-dsl-twins/2019/07/03/598268#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=box,game=59826838-2. Manfreds balls are apparently in the Dominican Republic, too. The Yankees decided to go with only one DSL team this summer. Presumably, that gives them the edge over over the B-team of a split Twins squad, but holy shneikes. The 38 runs is believed to be a record for minor league affiliated ball. Odd Facts: The Twins out-errored the Yankees, 6-0. Reliever Luis Velasquez came on in the sixth with a 28-2 lead, pitched the rest of the way as his team scored 10 more runs to support him, and walked off with a save. Yankee hides absorbed four hit-by-pitches. One guy got hit twice. As overwhelmingly dominating as the game was, it remains just one game, and so all it did for the Yankees was even their record at 13-13.

From his Wikipedia entry: Fireworks Plimpton was a demolitions expert in the post-World War II Army. After returning to New York from Paris, he routinely fired off fireworks at his evening parties. His enthusiasm for fireworks grew, and he was appointed Fireworks Commissioner of New York by Mayor John Lindsay, an unofficial post he held until his death. In 1975, in Bellport, Long Island, Plimpton, with Fireworks by Grucci attempted to break the record for the world's largest firework. His firework, a Roman candle named "Fat Man", weighed 720 pounds (330 kg) and was expected to rise to 1,000 feet (300 m) or more and deliver a wide starburst. When lit, the firework remained on the ground and exploded, blasting a crater 35 feet (11 m) wide and 10 feet (3.0 m) deep. A later attempt, fired at Cape Canaveral, rose approximately 50 feet (15 m) into the air and broke 700 windows in Titusville, Florida. With Felix Grucci, Plimpton competed in the 16th International Fireworks Festival in 1979 in Monte Carlo. After several problems with transporting and preparing the fireworks, Plimpton and Grucci became the first competitors from the United States to win the event. Plimpton later wrote the book https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/75341.FireworksFireworks, and hosted an https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMG3QC2iYRoA&E Home Video with the same name featuring his many fireworks adventures with the Gruccis of New York in Monte Carlo and for the 1983 Brooklyn Bridge Centennial. Did George Plimpton host the Mets' independence Day Fireworks Show several times, or did it only happen once and it fixed in my memory indelibly? If the latter, was this his largest Metly legacy or is it still The Curious Case of Sidd Finch?

I'm going to assume Jefe didn't make the schedule. That said, I imagine he didn't throw a shitfit when he saw it, either.

Who doesn't want to be a populist exec? Fist-bumping the customers? Wearing jeans to work? Coming up with corny nicknames for your leadership-level staff? Misquoting Talking Heads in your office-wide e-mails? That guy has it made. He probably uses a scooter in the office. I mean, #MeToo is barrelling at him like a runaway train, but until it arrives, his life is sweet.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D9d3uHfX4AA113d.jpg> Transactions have been flying through Syracuse so fast, as the parent club tried against all circumstances to find a workable bullpen combination, and two veteran batters got their release to declare free agency, at one point The Syracuse Mets had 10 starting pitchers on their roster. It was like when the original X-Men got captured by a giant mutant living island, and Charles Xavier had to rush all over the globe and recruit new members for a new X-Men team. But when their first official mission was to head down to the island and rescue the original team, things got awkward in the zephyr on the way back, with the two groups looking at each other, like, “Hey, great to have you guys around, but are we the X-Men or are you the X-Men. In fact, they were technically still were holding 29 guys on the roster as they fell 6-3 last night to The Rochester Red Wings, with former teammate Ian Krol getting the save for The Flour City, and former-Met Jordany Valdespin going deep off Mets starter Drew Gagnon. The lost was the fifth in 10 for the formerly first-place Mets, dropping them to 41-44, and allowing them to be passed by The Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, dropping into fifth place of six, 8 1/2 games back in The International League North Division. A mainstay returning to the rotation during that time has been Corey Oswalt. As he'd been relieving with the big club, the team has been giving him shorter starts as they “stretch” him back into a starter's workload, which strikes me as a miserable abundance of caution after he only relieved twice in the majors. But he's only gone 4 2/3 innings in each of his first two starts, while allowing only two runs in total. He's struck out seven over those 9 1/3 innings, and walked only two. He'll be back. Casey Coleman hasn't been the only man of cole to toe the rubber for the Mets, as free agent Louis Coleman joined the team at the end of May. Screw-You Lou, as I imagine he's known to nobody, allowed two runs in his last outing, but even with that hiccup, has had a nice little run of success, putting up a 2.31 ERA in his last 10 games. I'm-a-Cole-Man has had success in the majors, appearing in 264 (mostly AL) games, with a 3.51 career ERA. He's allowed a .230 batting average over his major league career and a .198 mark in the minors, so despite being a 33-year-old drifter, he may have something to offer a Mets team scrambling for anything that looks like a partial solution in the bullpen. In the meantime, too little has been said about Ruben Tejada, and like Dilson Herrera, Tehotty has some reason to be kind of pissed that Luis Guillorme got another callup while he waits by the phone. Ruben has been slapping the ball all over The International League, while again displaying the batting eye that made him stand out as a young player, all of it adding up to a haughty slash line of .336 / .423 / .500 // .923. I realize that it's 2019 and things therefore aren't necessarily as they seem, but still, that's Ruben Tejada with a .500 slugging average, folks. And he's still only 29! (Check out his baby face, above.) While the world is off it's rocker, somehow not scheduling a baseball game for The New York Mets on Independence Day, you can catch the Syracuse team hosting Buffalo this evening at NBT Bank Stadium, which I'm just going to go ahead and re-name Lou Reed Park, after Syracuse University's only (I think?) alumnus in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. There's no announced starter, but if I was a betting man, I'd put my money on Flexie. Happy Fourth. Stay away from The National Mall. But if you're there, I fully expect you to heckle the president without end. Long live America! I think the weirdest thing is that there's no audio or video of the locker room confrontation. I've got to think a leak of some of that — if the characterizations were remotely accurate — would have really put the heat on management to act. We're in an age where not only is everybody carrying a movie camera in their pocket, press reporters tend to have their phones ready to do the job that handheld tape recorders used to do, ready to grab a quote at the twitch of a thumb. So, none of the TV and radio guys were ready to roll, and none of the press and internet guys thought to switch their phones on to get audio or video? Was Healey simply the last reporter out of the clubhouse? And that goes for Vargas too. I mean, maybe Brodie spent his time with the 7 Line working the phones on a potential Vargas deal, but it's been a week and two starts for Vargie. Maybe giving the air a little time to clear increases the value, but I would have thought a Jason Vargas Deathwatch thread would last about two seconds.

Hey, you go. Don't get me wrong, great song. But I laid an egg when I posted "Beginnings," causing Frayed Knot to go off an unexpected Peter Cetera rant, and now he steps in to post a video of a song featuring Peter F. Cetera! That's just got to trigger bad karma all around.

X-tra base hits, Buddy.

Fman, you've got a PM.

No more IGTs invoking Chicago songs.

Do it right, and they'll add some gravitas to it. Heck have Jerry sit-in on the press conference. Or, alternatively, appoint him the interim manager. "Guys, you KNOW how I feel about the high five. Use sanitizer or leave me out of it!"

GtFO with the hesitation pitch.

Don't want to conclude too much from that inning, but this might be a different team if they can get Familia weaponized, for pretty much the first time this season. Familia and Díaz simultaneously weaponized? Well, then, all they'll need to do is score more than one stupid solo-homer run.

Base-clearing double last night aside, Conforto is still playing like a stink-box.

=kcmets post_id=15036 time=1562205931 user_id=53] Haven't been glued to this but what I've seen was rather uninspiring. Six outs to fix things.

Frazier was getting nothing but slop that turn, also. No heat, whatsoever.

I guess Gary was right about the end being near for Vargas.

It took three tries, but it's nice to see a Mets pitcher get a bunt down, considering a guy in scoring position with McNeil up is a valuable thing.
