One is fairly easy, the other not so much. The (I assume) easy one is when he went from the Mets to Detroit as the second player (along with Michael Fulmer) in the 2015 Yoenis Céspedes trade. I believe a Tigers exec at the time said they had insisted on Cessa because the equipment manager had all these C's, E's, and S's left over in the uniform room that he had purchased for Yoenis and now would never get to use.
2. Well, a cardiac furlough is ... concerning. And Lowrie himself has yet to appear in a game.
3. Niekro looks to be under the power of dark forces.
4. Bashlor: 14 games. 4.84 ERA. Starts a fight by hitting J.T. Realmuto.
5. Luis Severino has apparently severino'd a UCL and will miss the season while spending time in Florida visiting with Tommy John. It apparently is a result of an injury sustained in his last playoff start, but not picked up on until now despite multiple examinations, including two MRIs and a CT scan. I wish missed diagnoses on nobody. But could you imagine if it were Mets doctors who swung and missed three times?
6. Riley Gilliam and Kevin Smith are applying for a quick ticket out of camp.
7. Who did the bulbous cheeked illustrations?
8. I don't believe that.
9. They get the tying run on in the ninth in Jupiter, but fall 2-0.
10. Are the Marlins really going back to teal tops and the off-center fish insignia again?
11. A fall-off season? Surely. But somehow maintains his confidence through a July where his bat looks utterly dead and there are whispers of cutting his PT, and then, from mid-August to mid-September, is something like impossible-to-get-out. .260 / .352 / .478 // .830, 32 HR, 99 RBI.
12. Sorry I haven't been on the ball. Effort has been otherly focused.
13. Don't get caught in the stampede. Get your Daniel Zamora shirts NOW!!!!
14. McNeil — for whatever you want to make out of the limited-but-not-insignificant MLB data on the two — has a similar homerun rate to Nimmo.

[TH]Guy[/TH][TH]AB[/TH][TH]HR[/TH][TH]AB/HR[/TH]

[TH]Jeff[/TH]8152631.35

[TH]Brandon[/TH]8823128.45

15. Thoughts! 1. Whether or not Canó belongs in the back half of the lineup, it'd sure be nice if the manager opened the season with the clout that it was at least an option to make that move outright. 2. I can't-a resist-a Brandon Nimmo's OBP in the leadoff spot. 3. If I'm going to bump the pitcher up to eighth, it won't be to get a cement truck like Ramos up ninth.
16. My mental opening day lineup. 1. Nimmo, cf 2. Canó, 2b 3. McNeil, 3b 4. Alonso, 1b 5. Conforto, rf 6. Céspedes/Smith/Davis, lf 7. Ramos, c 8. Rosario, ss 9. deGrom, sp I still like the effect of contact hitters in the three-hole and bashers batting cleanup, as outmoded as that may be. I also anticipate Rosario moving up as the season progresses, and maybe displacing Canó.
17. Alternatively, Brodie Van Halen might not have had a specific deal in mind, but was looking for a fungible guy who could be penciled in at multiple different places, depending on how the roster continues to sort itself out, or on how injuries sort themselves out. I remember the idea with Xavier Nady was that the Mets had set aside money for a big run producer, but the guys they were talking about were both outfielders and firstbasemen, and so they got Nady first to be their firstbaseman if they got Manny Ramirez, or be their rightfielder if they got Carlos Delgado, which they did. I think super utility guys are seeing their stock go up because they give GMs that sort of flexibility. Going into 2019 with the multi-positional flexibility of Lowrie, McNeil, Davis, and even Dom Smith really put the team in a good position to adapt going forward as injuries played out. Unfortunately, one of the biggest of those injuries was to Lowrie.
18. "Michael Donato" is totally a made-up name.
19. I understand a niche product is hard to find when you're trying to watch a ballgame, but hasn't anybody figured out how to make serious $$ by selling stuff in the stadium through smart devices? >>> "Hey, let me know how Nuñez is looking this inning. I'm going to see if I can hunt down some decent beer." >>> >>> "Sit tight. I ordered us a couple of Finback IPAs. The girl should be here in about ... lemme see ... two minutes fifteen seconds." >>> "The fuck, man? How did you do that? Is that, like, a VIP service?" >>> >>> "Not unless VIP' means anybody who downloads the SheaBrewTM app. I haven't gotten out of my seat to get beer all season. I also ordered a Ronny Maurcio shirt and a big, foam #1 finger from the clubhouse shop for your kid. They should be here by the bottom of the fourth. Plus, 1-800-Flowers has a booth here and I'm having a little bouquet sent to that chick on the aisle in Row F." >>> "The one with the Chuck Taylors and the road jersey? Kinda looks like Lupe Velez?" >>> >>> "I can't stop looking at her, man. It's been three innings and I haven't seen anyone with her. She keeps score so neatly, too. I think I'm in love." >>> "This is amazing. You do all your purchases from your seat? Isn't that expensive?" >>> >>> "They have teenagers running all over this place to make the drops, so, yeah, there's certainly an added cost for delivery. But they're just delivering orders, so they don't have to carry a whole inventory on their backs, allowing them to really make tracks. It's cool if you tip them as well, but, I figure, I'm already getting raped by ballpark prices so I might as well pay a few more and get to sit still and watch the game." >>> "And watch Lupe, I guess." >>> >>> "She's more of a Merle Oberon to me. Oh, shit, here come the flowers. She's going to turn around to see where they came from. How's my hair? Is there anything in my teeth?" This has got to be a thing by now, right? If not, who wants to get in on the ground floor with me?
20. Presumably, with the same principals owning the Mets and SNY, the network gets something like a sweet deal on the rights to broadcast Mets games. I imagine any new owners of the Mets, if they cannot acquire the network at the same time, would insist on something like a market-level rate for those rights. And are those rights to signed over to SNY in perpetuity? Because if they aren't, the new team owner would have the network owners over a barrel. The channel isn't worth much without its flagship programming. So I see whereas both sides would be in a precarious situation. Oddly enough, it had previously been that having been handcuffed into a cable deal that was declining in value hastened the organization's decline in the 1990s.
21. Though I didn't give Art Carney proper respect in the Guess Who Died thread, I'm all about The Archer.
22. What bothered me is that the team refused to use him in the field once when he was finally activated down the stretch, and Mickey Callaway got all Willie-like churlish when asked about it. You'd've thought somebody said something about seeing him tomorrow.
23. Eight years ago on the 16th was the passing of Gary Carter.
24. The musical chairs of coaching and managing positions throughout the Mets' development organization continues, as http://thecranepool.net/2020/02/18/st-lucie-gets-rich/Rich Donnelly grabs a seat in St. Lucie. 25. Why do I get the impression that Lugo's toe could really affect Lowrie's availability going forward?
