Wow, this guy was managed by Oscar Charleston.

Yeah, that's the rule. Even callups from within the organization historically have to be added before 9/1 to qualify. There's a loopy-hole that allows organizations to be clever, however, in which a rule allows them to use somebody who came up after 9/1 if one of their players used before 9/1 is on the 60-day and not available for the playoffs. Anyhow, sorry to ask a long question. I'm just trying to brace myself for the blood.

Sad to hear of the injury to teenaged New Jersey jockey Steve Plomchok, I looked him up, and learned he was convicted and sent up the river in the late seventies following a conviction in a big race fixing scandal that made a little bit of news at the time (sort of rings a bell to me, anyhow). Apparently, https://www.nytimes.com/1979/04/07/archives/7-racing-figures-sentenced-in-fixes-big-tony-talked.htmlthe jig was up when Big Tony squealed, which, I'm sorry, but who couldn't see that coming?

As players potentially return from the disabled list, very frequently, a new situation makes room for them. But sometimes that is not so, and so, your challenge is to create a mid-range plan. You see, the subs have frequently outplayed the guys who have been hurt, and now you've got to find the best way to reconcile both groups into a team and say goodbye to some. The following players are due back over the coming weeks and months, and are listed in reverse order of expected return. Your job is to assume nobody more gets hurt, and to tell how you intend to respond to their return. What role do they get? Who loses time to them? What does the role of the displaced player become? And ultimately, who gets removed from the roster and how? For instance, Jeff McNeil seems due back earliest. In response to that you might say, (a) Jeff gets his secondbase job back, but initially mainly against righties. ( José Peraza still gets most lefties. © Guillorme gets bumped, and must satisfy himself getting spot starts all around the infield, and defensive replacing on occasion. (d) Brandon Drury gets DFA'd. For another guy, you might simply say,If he comes back, he gets immediately optioned to the minors. If he has no options, he gets DFA'd. Tough nuts. So, how do you respond to the following returns: 1) McNeil (within the week?) 2) Conforto (shortly after?) 3) Almora (late June?) 4) Betances (early July?) 5) Fargas (early July?) 6) Nimmo (mid July?) 7) Martinez (mid/late July?) 8) Davis (mid/late July?) 9) Hunter (mid/late July?) 10) Carrasco (late July?) 11) Yamamoto (early August?) 12) Syndergaard (late August? probably September but he'd have to be activated before that to qualify for the post-season) Yeah, those fudgy return dates are guesses made after reading a few injury update pages made for gamblers and fantasy players, and those pages are themselves guessing, so please don't hold me to nuttin'. The point is, when some of these guys get back, it's going to be bloody. And only you can make sure the wrong blood isn't shed.

dinosaur jesus wrote: If there seems to be something wrong with me, and the doctor says he can't find anything, I don't get much relief from that. I want the doctor to tell me what's wrong, and whether it's serious or not. This is the fourth time this year doctors have said he's fine. I wonder if there are some pitcher injuries that, though they are festering inside of the pitcher's body, can't be diagnosed until they get to the point where they are so severe that the pitcher has to be IL'ed. Intuitively, I'd say sure. I mean, that pain following a game isn't just fatigue and swelling. It's an uncountable numbers of micro-tears and micro-strains. We ask all of them to heal in between starts while knowing that they never quite due. The not-quite-healed ones accumulate and compound and you hope to get to the end of the season before they accumulate and compound into something that can't heal on it's own. Eventually, though, you don't. It is true, as said above, that we just aren't engineered for this activity. Maybe somebody will create a surgery someday that inverts the shoulder to point upwards. Until then, teach your kids to sidearm, or better yet, to submarine.

It would be more enjoyable, I think, if we can take it one day at a time, one batter at a time, and save the MVP calls for further down the line.

It's going to be tricky pretty soon, because Billy McKinney, even counting his poor start with Milwaukee, has outperformed Scoots in all his rate stats, and it hasn't been particularly close. Good problems to have, right?

I've upped my standards in recent years. I refuse to patronize any doctor that keeps a bowl of shit next to the water cooler.

Edgy MD in the previous IGT wrote: Yeah, Lindor deserves some credit for his defensive captaining. He's been bringing that all season, even when he was hitting at his worst. I've been pretty liberal with praising Lindor's play, but you know what I'm not seeing? I'm not seeing him bust it to first, and last night, it probably cost the team a baserunner.

It really was a garbage week throughout he Mets minor league system, with the team's four affiliates combining to go 6-18. A lot of Bingo's hitters are swinging the bat well (see the walkoff recount above), but getting nine decent innings out of the staff has become a real chore.

Have the other Negro League records been added (or will they be added) as minor league data?

Jake says he's confident that this is nothing ... in a less-than-confident manner.

The Rumble Ponies led 2-0 and 4-3 tonight, but gave up the tying run in the ninth, and the magic go-ahead run in the 10th. They had first and third with no outs in the bottom half, but a strikeout and a double play and they went down 5-4 to the Portland Sea Dogs. It was their fourth loss in a row, and seventh in the last 10 for a team that's come close once or twice to finding their footing, but just can't get any traction. It drops them in to a tie for last in the AA Northeast, Northeast Division, 12 and a half games off the pace. Not a lot of success at all has come from the starting rotation when Tylor McGill isn't pitching, but two starts back, newcomer Josh Walker gave them one of their https://www.milb.com/gameday/baysox-vs-rumble-ponies/2021/06/09/642958#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=box,game=642958top starts of the year, giving up one run in seven innings, striking out nine and walking only one. The 6'6” low-round draft choice has had some big moments since joining the organization of College of New Haven in 2017, but consistency has been a challenge. He's at 5-1 across two levels this years and this was his first breakthrough at AA, so … hey, there's a reason to be cheerful. Stepping up when getting his chances out of the pen in the last two weeks has been Thomas McIlraith. Mac is unscored on in June as part of a streak that stretches eight innings back into May. Thombone has given up only four hits in that period, while walking six, so if you see him, try to talk to him about throwing strikes. Coming on strong with the bat of late is infielder/outfielder Carlos Cortes. 10CC, as he is affectionately known by nobody (yet), has been pounding the ball to the tune of a .358 / .407 / .679 // 1.086 tear over his last 12 games, totaling 10 extra-base hits over that period. That's in 58 trips to the plate, so it's not a meaningless sample size. We've already discussed the release of Desmond Lindsay, and it's a sad a-thing, because his last few games with the team were his best, with two homers, but I think someone was coming off the injured list, they needed a spot, and it was time to go. So many injuries for one so young slowing development to a crawl. The Ponies host Portland for four more games, with Friday Night being Jeff McNeil Flying Squirrel Bobblehead Night, so get to the gate early.
