  1. Not sure why McCann and not Guillorme went up to pinch-hit there, unless he's coming into the game anyhow.
  2. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: I have zero CANNfidence in Smitty I on the other hand predict a three-run double. And I'm totally writing this before seeing the actual outcome, swear to Schaefer.
  3. Swinging 3-0 with bags bloated just is bad, bad baseball.
  4. I hope Nido's OK, but I'd probably pinch-run for him here either way.
  5. Yup. Looks like McNelt has a bat and helmet.
  6. First hit of the game for the Braves on a misplayed fly ball to left center. Despite deGrom's ridiculous success, he sure looks like he's grinding to me. But the Panda pops out. I'm guessing he's coming out.
  7. "We asked Budweiser's head brewer if he looks like a Harvey Korman character!" ... "Yes."
  8. Yay, the shift (probably) steals one for him. I guess he's OK.
  9. Possibly the biggest inning of the year coming up.
  10. Yeah, the deep well of archival material is mos' def' the mos' redeeming part of it. Most of the talking heads they bring in are interesting, but they don't get a very broad population of them, ultimately giving us a solid but unremarkable telling. With all the great footage, they don't really cover the down spots very well. And we know there's good footage of most of those, because they often take place in films, such as Cucumber Castle and Sgt. Pepper's LHCB. Both are treated as if they don't exist. They don't even mention the title song they contributed to Grease, which is silly, considering the film was a global phenomenon and Frankie Valli took the song to number one. It's almost like they run out of money after telling the story of the anti-disco backlash (which was again, well told, but limited to only a few witnesses, but could be a movie all to itself). Really, from Saturday Night Fever onward, they just step on the gas and zoom into the current day. Post peak BeeGees is still a fascinating story that deserves telling. I hadn't known this, but the Beatles were inadvertently very important in their genesis. When Brian Epstein died, Robert Stigwood was pissed that he didn't get to become the band's new manager, so he quit the Epstein organization and took the BeeGees and Eric Clapton with him, building an empire around them. In fact there's a lot of big names (Otis Redding, Eric Clapton, Ahmet Ertugun) who appear in the BeeGees story briefly, but make a major contribution. Also, amazingly, not a single reference to "Lonely Days, Lonely Nights." Come on!
  11. Laboring as he walks the pitcher followed by an infield mound conference, and I feel uneasy.
  12. One hit in the last 14 2/3 innings, and it was a routine grounder through a spot abandoned by the secondbasseman. He has 27 strikeouts in the same period. Confounding.
  13. A walk, a sacrifice bunt getting the runner to second, a sacrifice fly getting him to third, and a run-scoring wild pitch. Back in the Torre days, we called that a rally. Not all that different these days, either, but I'll take it.
  14. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: My twitter sez some dude making his MLB debut is to start game 1, LHP Kyle Muller. Ranked the No. 60 overall prospect by Baseball America Not seeing it, Baseball America.
  15. It seems to me that the 40-man roster was created to support 25-man teams with 21-day disabled list assignments. Then they had to support 25-man teams with 15-day disabled list assignments. Then they had to support 25-man teams with 10-day disabled list assignments. Then they had to support 25-man teams that expanded to 26 for double-headers, along with 10-day disabled list assignments. Then they had to support 26-man teams that expanded to 26 for double-headers, along with 10-day disabled list assignments. This inflation seems bonkers to me, but if this is the way it's going to be, they eventually have to expand the 40-man as well.
  16. =ashie62 post_id=68601 time=1624300985 user_id=90] Ian Anderson takes time off from Tull again to pitch for the Braves in G1.
  17. I didn't know he was. I just thought he was about due.
  18. Donuts to dollars it's Jeff McNeil.
  19. Manx family emigrates to Australia, learns to harmonize, and their three sons dream of going back to England and doing what the Beatles did. Improbably, they kind of pull it off, only differently. Now available on HBO. https://pics.filmaffinity.com/The_Bee_Gees_How_Can_You_Mend_a_Broken_Heart-649698281-mmed.jpg>
  20. Got caught up just in time.
  21. Ninth inning, down by three. Francisco Lindor gets two balls ... and swings. James McCann gets two balls ... and swings. Losing baseball.
  22. Sure he does. He keeps lesser pitchers, who are abundant, one step lower on the depth chart. I'm far more concerned about managing but four hits and trying to content myself witwh solo homers.
  23. I'm going to vote against the waivage.
  24. I would bet that Nido's performance would place him above the median of NL second-string catchers this season.
  25. Not a move I readily understand. Does anybody believe the difference-maker today is going to be having a 14th pitcher available?
