  1. Well one guy they won't have is Addison Russell as their rookie 2B-turned-SS is on the shelf for this series with a hamstring pull. They didn't switch him over to SS until early August (essentially swapping positions with Starlin Castro) but he looks to be the best defensive choice out of the 8 or 9 shortstops they seem to have over there. Second year man Javier Baez took over in the final few games vs the Cards with Castro staying at 2nd so it looks like that may be the way they play it although Maddon does a lot of position switching including some IF/OF shuffling.
  2. Well the point is that Vegas has had a (near) monopoly on legal sports wagering in this country for a long time so anything that reduces competition is good for them and therefore, even though there appear to be legit reasons for investigating these daily fantasy leagues, it's not surprising that Nevada is the one taking the lead on this. Gambling interests in this country -- starting with racetracks, then moving to gov't run lotteries, and then to the early casinos in LV or AC -- have long flourished by having their little fiefdoms protected from competition. Witness the number of bankruptcies in AC once "indian" casinos and boat/barge gambling started popping up elsewhere and giving folks other choices.
  3. Chipper's been pulling for the Mets because he and deGrom are from the same hometown -- Deland, Florida (should be retitled as deLand in honor of deGrom) -- and I think Larry said that his mom & pop both went to and met at Stetson U

  5. I don't remember if/when "Panic City" was a thing. May 13 -- Cubs 2 - Mets 1 -- http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN201505130.shtml In what was typical of the NYM offense in the first half, they had 2nd & 3rd with no outs in the 6th but scored just once on a Cuddyer ground-out then never again. Harvey tossed 7 innings of 3-hit shutout ball but was done in by Carlos Torres in the 8th & 9th before Familia eventually walked in the winning run with one out. Jason Hammel went 8 innings: 1 run, 5 hits, 6 Ks

  7. 10-1 actually as the Mets only played 160 games that year and a Dodger game was one of the two rain outs not made up - but the larger point still holds. Anyway, Game 2 on May 12 -- http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN201505120.shtml Syndergaard's ML debut was a scoreless affair thru 5, but he started the 6th: 1B - 2B - HR and is gone [3 ER, 4 BB, 6 K]. CF quickly pronounces him "disappointing". Jake Arietta, then just a .500 pitcher for the season [3-3, 3.41] and 34-32, 4.48 for his career, goes 8 innings limiting the Mets to 1 run on 3 hits w/10 Ks. He'd go 19-3 with a sub-2.00 ERA from this day on out.
  8. Lots has/will be made about the Mets going 0-7 vs the Cubs this season - although the corollary to that is that they were all first half games when the Mets were seemingly a different team and that most of those games were close and could have gone the other way with a little bit of luck, or a little bit of Cespedes, or of Wright, etc. May 11 @ Wrigley -- http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN201505110.shtml deGrom starts the bottom of the 1st: HBP - HR - HR, and then later gives up an RBI single in the 4th. Mets also go back to back (Duda & Flores) in the 6th vs Lester which closed the game to 4-3 but that was the final score as they hit into DPs in both the 8th & 9th deGrom: 5 IP, 4 ER, 5 Hits, 5 Ks, [u:2bcowrdg]4 BB[/u:2bcowrdg] Lester: 6 IP, 3 ER, 5 Hits, 6 Ks, also 4 BBs
  9. Howie was talking about how hard the Cubs were rooting for the Mets to come out of this series, because a) they won 7 of 7 (as opposed to 3 of 7 vs Dodgers) so why not and the city still wants revenge for '69 Yeah, not so fast there mid-western geeks. a) This ain't the same team you saw in the first half of the season. that season may just be the least of your baggage
  10. Caught a brief nap earlier so a) am not all that tired am too keyed up I usually don't drink during games (am enough of a mess to begin with) but I had two beers during and am now on 2nd vodka. Those will kick in soon.
  11. I rarely watch these type of post-game shows, but I did turn to this one for a bit and it was pretty good. Everyone there had some good points to make (not just the usual empty cliches) even Sheffield who has never exactly struck me as a Wile E. Coyote level super genius.
  12. Just to continue on one of the themes of this thread, the vodka is now out.
  13. deGrom - 3.0 Murphy - 4.0 Familia - 2.0 Syndergaard - 1.0

  17. I wonder if Terry's thinking at all about Reynolds in for Flores in bottom 9? I can't imagine that he is.
  18. 8-9-1 for the Dojers in the 9th
  19. Nice. What was that, about a 10 pitch inning?
  20. We don't need no stinking' floodgates.
  21. Between the pictures here of Taylor Kitsch and Chris Hemsworth, I'm beginning to wonder about youse guys. If Cooby wants to post them I'd be more OK with it.
