  1. Odds of a hit w/RiSP: 1 in 35
  2. Y'know this game is also the spiritual descendant of the MoFo picnic game - Thursday afternoon game, second week of August ... although not quite as hot today. Not a good thing that our best offensive output of this series came in the game vs Greinke.
  3. Good thing we started our defensive catcher today or else there might have been a lot of stolen bases and shit.
  4. Fewer pitches for this Shipley guy thru 7 innings than Noah needed just to get thru 4. I'm going to continue to come up with comparisons such as these until I can't possibly feel any more shitty about this game than I already do.

  6. Chris Owings, a non-slugging SS, is out-XBH'ing the entire NYM team in this series.
  7. Good thing we missed Arizona's starting catcher (Wellington Castillo) in this series, eh? Their backups need just one more HR in this series to tie d'Arnaud's season output.
  8. Finally get two ABs w/RiSP. Result = two K's
  9. And apparently, unlike NYM pitchers, give-back innings aren't standard operating procedure with them. Our batters follow up by going out 1-2-3 on 9 pitches.
  10. DBacks have more XBHs so far in this game (4) and as many in that 4th inning from the bottom of their depleted order off our supposed ace (3) as the Mets have in this entire series.
  11. Wouldn't it be more appropriate if this Shipley guy were a Brewer? [youtube:1vkaih49]Ejvcd-JeVCQ[/youtube:1vkaih49]
  12. In fairness to Terry, Kelly Johnson is starting where TJ Rivera did yesterday and he did a little bit last night to earn a start as well. Also this pitcher's R/L splits are pretty severe (small sample size).

Tough to stay upbeat after a recent stretch like this. I don't think they're done but they are surely in a fog. That logjam for the 2nd WC spot in particular is what's so frustrating about this. No team is stepping up to claim it and yet they're losing touch with that group. 7 of the last 11 losses have been by 1 run (one other by 2) including twice in extra innings, and during those games they've gone a whopping 11 for 84 w/RiSP. Now conventional wisdom says that it takes about 10 runs scored (or prevented) to turn a loss into a win because you can't dictate when or where those runs will show up, but in a string of close games like this it's clear that just a single hit here or there can flip a result. In this case had they just managed say 18 or 20 hits in those 84 RiSP ABs (still a very mediocre or worse standard and below the team's normal BA) it could have easily turned around half those losses and they'd be right in the thick of things. But they're not.
  14. All the other guys not mentioned so far.
  15. At some point wouldn't naming the guys who didn't do it make for a shorter list?

  17. Well, the bunt prevented him from hitting into a GiDP.
  18. Did you guys see what happened when some guy got his first ML hit the other day? I forget who it was but the fielder dutifully tossed the ball into the dugout for the keepsake ... but he forgot to call time first so all runners moved up two bases. I was hoping for that here.
  19. The inning starts with a Hudson Rivera matchup
  20. Speaking of long games (as the crew was earlier) - this is now a 3-hour game seeing as how they started right about 7:30 with the rain delay. But up in Boston there was no delay so they started at the regular time. It's 6-4 Yanquis ... and they're in the [u:apgw5w8m]7th inning[/u:apgw5w8m].
  21. Have I mentioned that this Drury guy in the DBacks OF is a blockhead?
  22. Do you PH for Flores here as ARZ goes to the RHP? He's already used Loney but he could keep K Johnson in the game at 1st. I'd leave Wilmer in.
  23. Gotta give this to Terry, he picked the right Kelly.
