  1. But you do realize that there will never be a save situation once you hit the 9th inning tied, right? So either you use Familia in a tie game or you resolve not to use him at all.
  2. d'Arnaud due for a big hit. Only problem is that with Wilmer on 1st it'll have to be a HR because a triple might not be enough.
  3. The bigger problem here is that we're taking the collar against the likes of Tyler Clippard and Adam Warren. And we're in 'Pop-Up' mode again.
  4. Zvon wrote: If we could get 2 out of Juerys. I'll change that tune. To me if Fammy fails, very bad. Horrible. If he succeeds, after the 9th we are pretty much throwing the game to the wind in Lugo, who is the only RP left. So you'd rather definitely use Lugo in a tie game in the 9th than maybe use Lugo if and when we get to extras? Not buying that logic at all.
  5. I never got the idea that the Mets are/were down on Herrera. You simply have to give to get and no trade is going to be pain free. smg58 wrote: The bigger concern is that the Reds passed on Nimmo for medical reasons. Well that, and the Mets have too many left-handed outfielders. My understanding was that it was a physical question with one of the minor leaguers* who was to go with Nimmo that caused the first deal to cave in - and so when the deal was reworked it morphed into Dilson plus one minor leaguer rather than Nimmo plus two. * specifically I believe this is the guy who we still have that we wouldn't still have if it had been Nimmo and not Dilson

  7. Their big [crossout:2n23dnj1]three[/crossout:2n23dnj1] one aside, I know nothing about who's in the Yanqui bullpen these days. Throughout the years I've always at least been up on their roster with the exception of maybe the 24th/25th guys who tend to float in and out as circumstances dictate. But this entire year they've been shuffling guys in and out of that pen and the only thing they have in common is that I don't know a thing about any of them nor could I pick even one out of a lineup.
  8. If nothing else it gets the club out from under any commitment for next year. Bastardo is signed for 2017, Niese for 2017 & '18 but a simple 500K buyout negates all that. oe: plus the games just got about 10 minutes/game faster without Bastardo's actions on the mound
  9. So look at it this way: Nimmo was probably crying earlier but now he's not and is destined to hit a game-winning HR tonight.
  10. AND THE ANSWER IS ... JON NIESE!!!!
  11. Adam Rubin: Mets have a second deal - not sure what yet
  12. Wednesday -- Matz vs [crossout:38ujnoq0]Ivan Nova[/crossout:38ujnoq0] (7-6, 4.90, 75 K, 1.36 WHIP)
  13. seawolf17 wrote: seawolf17 wrote: If you're going to include Herrera, you should have asked for Brandon Phillips too. Scratch that, my bad. It's Herrera INSTEAD of Nimmo. Yeah, that was mostly my fault jumping the gun. New info (Jonathan Mayo) says Herrera and Max Wotell, no 3rd player.
  14. Sidearming ex-NYM Joe Smith to the Cubs
  15. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: Ruggiano hurt himself rounding the bases. He flied out and grounded out ... couldn't have been a whole lot of 'rounding'. Whatever it was, we now have all three RH-hitting OFs not available, and on a night when Sabathia is pitching.
  16. Lucroy to Texas. Joe Gallo reportedly in that deal. That's crazy. oe: and now it's NOT Gallo in the mix, but is Jeffress AND Lucroy for several prospects not named Gallo
  17. cooby wrote: cooby wrote: Who is the guy that sounds like he needs to swallow? Or spit What are you watching, ESPN? Yes Probably Eduardo Perez (son of HoF Cincy player Tony). Has kind of a deep voice slightly tinged with a Spanish accent. Former pitcher Dallas Braden is the other ex-jock - the guy with the receding, curly hair if they show the booth. I forget who the p-b-p guy is, some nondescript ESPN staffer.

  19. Rosenthal: Deal for Bruce [u:xchyrtpi]IS DONE[/u:xchyrtpi], for Nimmo and ... DILSON HERRERA, and a 3rd prospect.
  20. Sherman says the same. Were able to reconfigure the deal which is now 'On the verge' of completion. Also says that there's likely a separate smallish deal for relief help.
  21. I missed what happened with Ruggiano.
  22. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: I was watching the videos on the MLB AP, and hearing about Beltran. And -- how long have David Cone and Ken Singleton been broadcasting for the Evil Empire? Don't they have Al Leiter, too? Singleton since forever ago, Cone more or less since he retired but only now and then. That booth has tended to be the lead p-b-p guy (Michael Kay) and a revolving cast of about nineteen different color guys. OK 19 is a bit of an exaggeration but there have been a bunch.
  23. Buster: "Mets on the verge of acquiring Jay Bruce" Joel Sherman: Deal, if it happens, likely to include Nimmo, but no Rosario, no Conforto
  24. I almost forgot last time it was my turn too. Yanx @ Mets, 7:10 PM, on your usual local station plus ESPN for youse outta-towners. I don't believe any starting lineups have been posted yet because no one knows who is actually on which roster at this point so that's going to take a while to sort out. We are pretty sure that it's still going to be Verrett vs Sabathia. C.C. Roider (probably not, but I couldn't resist the joke) is having a strange year and not just because he's sober for the first time in a while, but because he's alternated stretches of stinking and shining that make observers think that he's either done or back to his dominant days of yesteryear. In a stretch running from May 4th thru June 10 Sabathia allowed [u:1o35k2yj]a total of 4 earned runs across 7 starts/44 innings[/u:1o35k2yj]. In the six starts since then he's coughed up 31 earnies in 42 innings.
  25. And even if the Pirates do the QO thing and get the pick from Melancon walking, what are the odds that the 35th or so pick they'll get out of that whole deal is going to be better than either of the guys they got in the trade? Felipe Rivero is still raw but is already in the majors, has a good left arm, and five more years of club control. The other guy, a former 5th round pick, is still in A-ball but is also a lefty and is off to a good minor league career. You'd like to think that a supplemental pick would at least have a higher ceiling than either of those, but more often than not they'll fall short.
