  1. So after losing all those low-scoring pitchers duels, the Mets have now scored 6, 6, and 5 in their last three losses and are trailing tonight with 7 runs here in the 7th.
  2. I kept on looking for a sign in the middle of the night, but they couldn't get it right.
  3. Well the good news is we've gotten rid of Bumgarner. The bad news is that we haven't scored a meaningful run off a bullpen in I don't know how long.
  4. After all the bitching about Matz, this was the worst give-back inning of the year!!!
  5. Well that lead was fun while it lasted.
  6. Ruggianofacts: - How many players have more HRs off Bumgarner than Ruggiano's 3? Just one, Carlos Gonzalez - 5 - Justin Ruggiano career NYM Grand Slams: 1 in 8 ABs; Derek Jeter NYY Grand Slams: 1 in 11,195 ABs
  7. Can't say as how I saw that one coming!! 3 HRs off Bumgarner for a guy with only 50 in his career. That's freaky-deaky.
  8. There was definitely a sense of 'best bat available' which drove this deal. Would have been nice if there had there been a high-OBP/leadoff/CF type instead but those were all out of stock even at the big box store. So, yeah, I think 'no deal at all' was the logical alternative to this deal but of course that choice is usually the one which draws the strongest hatred ('Cheap-ass bastards aren't even trying!!!!') and the concept of best available bat when discussing how to improve the worst offensive lineup is certainly a defendable option. That he's redundant/corner OF is a minus but that he's around for next year isn't when almost certainly one of him/Grandy/Cespedes won't be here.

  10. Ruggiano back, Ynoa sent down - which both helps the L/R balance in the OF and puts us back with a more normal sized bench too. Cabrera & Cespedes expected to be activated tomorrow so more changes a'comin'.
  11. Boy, those were some clutch HRs there at the end. Who says we never hit 9th inning homers? Got out-XBH'd in this series 21 to 12 For the season NYM bats average just under [u:2qto4x5z]8 hits[/u:2qto4x5z] per game and here we are in this series giving up an average of 7 XBH. Not a winning formula.

  13. "Mild Flexor (tendon) strain" - immediate remedy is to make him inactive for the next two weeks. And while he's not officially out for the season, if there's not even going to be any throwing again until around Sept 1st ...
  14. Stranding a leadoff double ... how unusual. And by unusual I mean totally predictable.

  16. And that (the second Weeks HR) is why you don't automatically 'pitch around' a lineup's top hitter each time, because guaranteeing anyone a 1.000 OBP is going to come back to bite you eventually, and probably often.
  17. O-o-T-S from earlier today: - Nats scored in 7 of their 9 innings - but managed "only" ten runs and wound up on the short end of a 12-10 game in Colorado. Third rough outing in a row for Strasburg [19 ER in his last 3 starts, 11-2/3 innings] after being unbeatable much of the summer, and this one was really rough: 9 earned and not making it out of the 2nd inning. I mean, yeah it's Denver, but still - Sabathia only a little better for the Yanx: 7 runs over 6 IP as the Yanx lose the game and the series to Toronto - Pitt overcame an early 4-0 deficit to edge the now 2nd-place Giants - Cards thump the Astros
  18. Not everyone but ... He's Keith Hernandez. actually I have no idea, first I ever heard of it
  19. Edgy MD wrote: FK is right, though, T.J. has to stay on second. Except that an inning or two after I typed that in last night's IGT, Gary related that Backman had recommended Rivera for 3rd rather than 2nd despite the nearly 2/1 ratio of minor league innings played the other way around. So maybe it's just SSS applying here - although that small sample makes it look to me that TJ doesn't have the arm for that half of the infield.
  20. Ahhhh, that makes more sense. They had an even longer delay out in Denver last night too causing both starting pitchers, Chad Bettis & Gio Gonzalez, to be pulled in a 2-2 tie after 3. Rox wound up getting the better bullpen work (6 IP, 4 hits) resulting in a 6-2 Colorado win and (though it means less now than a month or so ago) ... a Triple Happiness Day !!
  21. Also, following his Cubs "career" (2 innings), Joe Nathan has re-re-signed with the Giants meaning we might see him this weekend.
  22. I missed the question when it was first asked (flipping back & forth with the 'lympics) but, when discussing the answer, Keith revealed that, upon his retirement, Elias gave him a complete printout/breakdown of every pitcher he ever faced during his career, so he had even more insider knowledge than usual on this one. Gary then asked if he carried the copy around with him in case he might happen to run into an old opponent that he could spring his stats on.
  23. metirish wrote: metirish wrote: SNY Trivia Who are the only three pitchers to face Keith 100 or more times? Steve Carlton, Mike Krukow, Bob Knepper Was this the answer? That was the given answer, yes. I would have guessed Carlton on my own (I didn't hear the question when it was first asked) but no way I get either of the others.
  24. Edgy MD wrote: Looks like we all bailed on this one about the same time. I hung with the game (just not the thread) but, man, that game had the brakes slammed on it during the middle innings. After the DBacks' staff had a couple of fugly back to back innings in the 5th & 6th, Syndergaard threw 35 pitches in the 6th and never even got out of the inning, it took a pitching change and an 8-pitch K from Blevins before that half-inning was put to bed. Later, Robles needed 27 pitches just to get through 4 batters (retiring two of them) in the 7th.
  25. Yanx had a 6-0 lead tonight thru 5 Then they pulled starter Michael Pineda (no idea why ... only 68 pitches) Then a succession of relievers allowed 4 runs to the Jays in the 6th and then [u:10ldr6mv]8 more in the 8th[/u:10ldr6mv]! 12-6 Toronto is your final.
