  1. Well the good news is that Syndergaard's pitch count is really low (63 thru 5) and we're not losing. Other than that ...

  3. ESPN doesn't televise games, they televise ESPN.

  5. Instead of the standard practice of automatically awarding it to the home team, I think they should get creative tonight in front of a national TV audience and pair off the two starters in some sort of pre-game contest to determine who gets to bat last. - The simplest might just be to have the 6' 5" (and former Notre Dame tight end) Samardzija and the 6' 6" Syndergaard jump center right there on the mound. Whoever comes down with the baseball gets first choice. - Either that or a pop quiz to see who is the first one to spell the other guy's last name correctly. On a side note, this might be the two longest last names as opposing starters since Jason Isringhausen faced off against William VanLandingham back on May 29, 1996 at Shea.
  6. Eric Goeddel out, Jim Henderson is back!
  7. No baserunners were harmed in the making of this top of the 3rd inning ... at least not so far.
  8. DOUBLE - SINGLE - DOUBLE - WALK [u:zs7pyiqo]in consecutive ABs[/u:zs7pyiqo] somehow equals just one run. I keep turning the pages of this book but it's the same script on every page.

If there are any then, sure, 'EI' will carry them, but unless the Yanx are home and not on FOX that particular day there usually aren't any to be found.
  10. d'Kong76 wrote: Is it strange that on a Saturday there is at least one or two 1pm ET games? Our game from California is the first game today in all of baseball. Saturday daytime baseball is essentially dead, local TV money makes it more profitable at night. And while it's also understandable in August, particularly in say Atlanta, or those hot midwestern towns, or even NYC, April & September games are no different. The Mets didn't have a 1 o'clock EDT game all year and this is their final 4:00 of the year. The final six Saturdays are all Eastern time zone (four home plus Atlanta & Philly) and they're all 7:00 The one team that sticks to their 1:00 Saturday time slot (unless national TV compels them to do otherwise) is the Yanx.

Lugo had only thrown 69 pitches but there were 2 runners on, a lefty batter and Blevins was available. Shouldn't Terry have known that Bochy would PH with a righty or was Lugo clearly tiring (he had been pitching out of the bullpen) and it was the proper move regardless of what Bochy did? There wasn't one obvious move. The pitch count was still low but Lugo had just given up hits to three of his last seven hitters including a double that was a HR in most parks. Due up was the LH-swinging Panik, then the pitcher, then Span (LH). So he could pitch Lugo to Panik there, bring in Blevins to do so, or IW Panik forcing Bochy to either bat Cueto there w/2 outs or remove him. He chose the last. Bochy announced a LH PH -- Terry went to Blevins -- Bochy switches to SW-hitter Ehire Adrianza, a 26 y/o .222 career hitter w/just 23 ABs this season. Adrianza singles as does Span after him; both were essentially grounders which simply found a hole but that's the way things have gone this year, they get 2-out hits, we don't.
  12. I mean, this game was essentially over as soon as the Giants got their 2nd run anyway -- and if it wasn't over then then it was when Bruce GiDP'd -- but, man, this team finds new and interesting ways to blow games on a nightly basis. SF has about 3 or 4 decently hit balls all game and has a 5-run lead. This 3-run (and counting) 9th inning has consisted of six ground balls, two of which left the infield. oe: and now it's a 5-run inning.
  13. Same Shit Different Day: They get two-out hits w/RiSP, we don't.
  14. I don't think Jay has Bruised a baseball since about the Yanqui series.
  15. 57 pitches to get through six innings for Lugo. Lately that's where Syndergaard and Matz have been after about three.
  16. So not only does yet another one of our already rare hit w/RiSP fail to actually score a run but it all followed yet another failed Sac Bunt which could have scored the run one play earlier. Bottom line: 3 hits in an inning and 8 in 5 innings yet the only run is ... say it with me folks ... a Solo HR!
  17. Oh good, a ten minute delay!!! I was beginning to worry that these west coast starts and 3-1/2 games* weren't making the games late enough. * last four games: 3:29; 3:24; 2:53 (ARZ); 3:30 (SF)

I'd suggest that perhaps the team should have better options available for spot starts. Niese didn't last 4 innings and he's getting another start. IMO Sandy didn't do a good job stocking the system. So we want the really good options at last-minute, fill-in 8th starters like all the other teams have.

  20. "Intelligent face and manner shows good breeding" Ah yes, 'the good face' analysis. Also like the "this boy" projections. Disappointed, though, that there was no comments on Drysdale's HS teammate, OF Bob Redford.
  21. What "kids"? The 'kids' are already here. Anything beyond them means a rotation anchored by Logan Verrett and then trails off from there. Besides, I'm not keen on giving up a season 4/5 games out of a playoff spot with 1/4 of the season to go ... but maybe that's just me. It's a sore shoulder, or more specifically "discomfort" when he throws his curveball. Until it proves to be something further then let's not run around pressing every panic button we can find.
  22. 'Shoulder discomfort' is the given reason. Seth Lugo to go instead, it'll be his first ML start. Apparently Matz felt it during his regular throwing session on Wednesday and, when things were no better Thursday, he was shutdown at least for this turn.
  23. aka: The final Late Late Show of the year. After this it's reasonable starting times from here on out and nothing but EDT starting next Friday. Lugo (as per Matz's latest set-back) vs Cueto The good news is that they're scheduled to get both Cespedes and Cabrera back, and also a possible return of the non-DL'd Neil Walker (for a day or two anyway until the baby alarm sounds). The bad news is that the guys voted as 'Most likely to be bumped' are the only ones hitting lately: Ty Kelly (4 for his last 9 + 5 BBs and good defense); TJ Rivera (.355 over 31 ABs); Justin Ruggiano (3/5 last night incl a GS) Already a swap has been made of LHRs as they've opened up the window to let the Edgin out and the (Josh) Smoke® waft in. More details as they happen ... but only if you keep it where it is.
