  1. This thumb thing may yet land Cabrera on the DL. Was out of the lineup today and almost certainly will be tomorrow. He says that there was a small tear in a ligament but wants to play through it. Whether to DL him will depend on how it feels in the next day or two sez NYDN The good news is, think about how close to Las Vegas they'll be over the next three days! This will be one of the times the location is an advantage if they need someone like Cecchini quickly.

  3. Alex Bregman celebrated being #2 by beating the crap out of Masahiro Tanaka.
  4. And add another 'loss in the other team's last AB' to the list. Two of the last four losses have been of that variety, plus we had a whole bunch of those early in the year.
  5. The pen faced 15 batters and recorded 6 outs.
  6. And on the day when we hit AND getting decent* starting pitching ... no one in the pen can get an out. * decent, but not quite Good
  7. That was bigly, at least it was once he settled down after getting knocked around initially.
  8. btw, since Dellin Betances will now be the Yanqui closer for at least the next month and maybe longer, does he get to take Randy Levine back to arbitration and get a $3-$4 million bump in his salary because of it? Or does he at least get to kick Levine repeatedly in the nads?
  9. Hey Neil Walker, how ya feeling now about your non-run caused by your non-running?
  10. Edgy MD wrote: Ty Kelly helping us out by putting the Phillies ahead of the Nats with in the ninth with an RBI single. Nats lose!! ... 4-3 courtesy of 3 in the 9th by Phillie Nats late-inning woes continue. And those two have to play another one today.
  11. Now saying that someone is a single short of a cycle (which Conforto currently is) is meaningful - as opposed to the idiotic references to some being only a triple shy of the feat.
  12. Through 5 innings and "only" 80 pitches for deGrom. Still slightly more than you want to see from your guy but a good chunk lower than what we have been getting lately.
  13. Eric Thames (or Marcus Thames) Tim Hudson [u:z9f31hlz]Red[/u:z9f31hlz] Schoendienst Nolan Rhein Mickey Rivers Rene Rivera and Lawrence Peter Berra whom many thought was a kind of Saint.
  14. Conforto: 10 HRs in 119 PAs Aaron Judge: 14 in 132 Both totals include a HR from today's in-progress games. But one is the toast of baseball with talk about challenging records while the other is going virtually unmentioned ... Just sayin'
  15. Aroldis Chapman DL'd with shoulder issues. Expected to miss around a month. His last couple of outings have been brought ones for him: 4 runs on 6 hits + 2 BBs over two separate outings which each lasted only 2/3 inning.
  16. Edgy MD wrote: deGrom giving hustle lessons for the rest of youse muggs. Maybe he can give some to Walker. Duda also needs to be more aware of what was going on ... get yourself in a run-down if needed. Bad ending to a good inning.
  17. And picking this game to walk less than a half dozen would be a nice start, Jake.
  18. Centerfield wrote: Yeah it looks like Gsellman is just not that good. The question was whether last year was an awakening or fluke. It looks like it was a fluke. The Mets were apparently high on him and there were at least a couple of the prospect hounds who said specifically that his success last year was decidedly not a fluke. Now that doesn't mean they'll eventually be right, but their opinions were based on more than just his half dozen 2016 starts.
  19. This may well be the worst pitched baseball game I've ever witnessed. The only surprise is that there have only been 14 runs scored so far. I'm still not sure how Davies got away with only giving up 4. It's also why the game is headed for over four hours.
  20. I peaked in on the Cubs/Cards this afternoon and couldn't always tell the difference between those squads right away, and the Cards in particular are usually one of the most recognizable unis in the circuit. But the pink-fest obscured all the difference between StL red and Cubby blue.
  21. d'Kong76 wrote: cooby wrote: I hate these pink games Everyone thinks it's way too much in all the sports but there's no turning back now. Doesn't the NFL do like an entire month of pink accessories? Of course they do it while pretty much ignoring violence against women, but concentrating on that doesn't move product.
  22. Gsellman against hitters leading off an inning this season: .433/.514/.900 in 35 PA -- 13 for 30 including 3 2Bs, 1 3B, and 3 HRs, plus 2 BBs and [u:2eb4m2vc]3 HBP[/u:2eb4m2vc] 1 single in four ABs so far tonight, but that is NOT a recipe for success.
  23. Davies has thrown over six innings worth of pitches in just four innings, so we'll be in the Milwaukee bullpen sooner than later. Whether that's a good thing or not I have no idea.
  24. Not entirely his fault in that 2nd inning, but Gsellman continues the trend of give-back innings and of early high pitch-counts.
  25. I see that Davies is one of those guys who thinks that arm tats will make his baby-faced, skinny body look older and tougher. He's wrong of course, it just makes him look even sillier. oe: and btw, the lame attempt at facial hair isn't helping either.
