  1. I wonder how the stadium is handling that. The smart thing, IMO, would be to say something like: 'All Seats, $5 each, First Come/First Serve' As far as the Astros/Rangers feud goes, Texas certainly comes off looking like the bad guys here. But, when presented with the options, Houston had a choice between a road series where they'd have a more or less full house and get the home team share from it, or a different (and further) road series where there won't be much of a gate to split whatever the arrangement is. So I'm not sure they made the right decision either. I've read that the mgmts of those teams don't play very well together and this chapter can't help.
  2. Lagares didn't break his thumb on that slip ... so there's that.
  3. Edgy MD wrote: Rosario, leave that crap to Jeter. Plant your leg and throw like a real person. Not that I think hell be a sub-par defender, but the reports for going on two years with Rosario were that he could play defensively in the majors RIGHT NOW and it was only a question as to how quickly his offense would catch up. Those reports don't seem all that accurate so far. A better play on that ball and that's an entirely different bottom 1st.

  6. So the Yanx are at home this week and the MLB offices are still in NYC (last time I checked anyway) yet these appeals don't seem like they're going to get heard anytime soon. Do the Yanx get to not only argue the length of these deals but the timing of them as well by not having these appeals heard until after the Boston series (four games in YSIII starting Thursday) and the rosters expand next week?
  7. Hard to judge seeing as how I don't think we've ever gotten a clear explanation of what it is that's wrong with his shoulder. Is it related to the back/neck stuff? Totally separate? A problem that can be fixed by something other than rest and rehab? Is that his only remaining obstacle?
  8. Well, they're not very good (3rd worst record in NL) and we get to play them seven times in the next 13 days. They do hit, mainly they hit lots of HRs -- Votto = 33; Cozart = 17; Suarez - 24; Duvall = 30; Schebler = 25; Gennett - 22 (and half of you don't even know half those guys) -- which helps them score at a somewhat above league average rate. But they're the league's worst at preventing runs BY A LOT, like even worse than us by nearly 1/2 R/G, and there's only so far you can blame it on their home park. Tuesday 7:10 -- Flexen vs Sal Romano ® Romano is a Syosset-born kid out of Southington HS in Connecticut who was a 23rd round draft pick in 2011. This is the rookie season for the (6' 5" - 270 !) 23 y/o and will be his 11th start: 3-5, 4.96, 1.54 thru the first 10 Wednesday 7:10 -- Montero vs Homer Bailey ® Bailey was once the 7th overall pick by the Reds way back in 2004 and was one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball within a few years. But he's now a 31 y/o with just 43 starts from 2014-17 due to a variety of injuries including TJ surgery. He's 4-6 this season in 12 starts with an ungodly 7.99 ERA and 1.97 WHiP Thursday 12:35 -- deGrom vs Robert Stephenson Stephenson is another one of Cincy's 1st round picks (27th overall in 2011) and has been the team's best prospect for several years now. But he's been used more in relief than as a starter and has spent as much time in the minors as in the majors since his ML debut last season. 19 games this year (5 starts) 5.81 ERA, 1.75 WHiP The Usual Suspects: C - Tucker Barnhart - currently their main guy w/Devon Mesoraco injured 1B - Joey Votto - how many MVP votes can a last place guy get? 2B - Scooter Gennett - was a swiss army knife guy who pretty much took over 2B around mid-season after he started hitting more HRs (incl. 4 in one game) than anyone named Scooter has the right to hit SS - Zack Cozart - All Star glove having by far his best offensive season 3B - Eugenio Suarez - some very nice numbers: .270/.381/.497; 44 XBHs LF - Adam Duvall - swing hard in case you hit it CF - Bill Hamilton - 54 of 64 in steals and can go get 'em in CF, but he can't steal 1st meaning virtually all his value is tied up in defense: .244/.296/.323 RF - Scott Schebler - the other half of the high-power/low-OBA corner OF bookends Their closer, Raisel Iglesias, who was their opening day starter in 2016, is having a very good season but no one else in the pen seems to have an ERA under about 15.00
  9. The Marlins "will trade" Giancarlo Stanton at the end of the season - or so claims Bob Nightengale of USA Today It would be altogether different if Jeffrey Loria was still owning the team. He would be lampooned to Cuba if he dared trade Stanton. Sure, no one likes trading away a star, but the Marlins [under the new ownership] simply have no choice this time. This is a franchise already with more than $400 million in debt. They simply can’t be viable economically with a player whose salary jumps from $14.5 million to $25 million in 2018, escalates to $32 million, and doesn’t stop until 2028. The Marlins, who want to keep their payroll around $100 million, simply can’t have one-third of their payroll tied into one player, no matter how many homers Stanton hits. The Giants, Cardinals, and Rangers have reportedly been the ones doing the most sniffing around since he cleared waivers.

  11. The traded players since being traded: JAY BRUCE: 61 AB, .311/.391/.590 4 HR NEIL WALKER: 38 AB; .368/.467/.500 1 HR LUCAS DUDA: 84 AB; .202/.343/.488 7 HR GRANDERSON: 29 AB; .138/.342/.448; 3 HR RENE RIVERA: 1 Single in 8 AB ADDISON REED: 11 Games, 10.1 IP; 6 ER, 6 H, 3 BB, 12 K All these were from before tonight's games (if any) although I know Duda has HR'd tonight so that's at least 8 for him w/TBR even with the low BA
  12. Conforto to get a second opinion on Tuesday (OK, you're ugly too); various options still on the table although I can't imagine how this ends without him going under the knife.
  13. btw, nothing is yet official on the Mets series for this weekend. While it seems almost certain that the series will not be in Houston, the only word so far is that it could also be at the Trop in T/StP but that a decision won't be made until "later this week". http://m.mlb.com/news/article/251073866/astros-to-play-at-rays-ballpark-due-to-storm/
  14. Well back to [MFS's] batting average question: considering that Judge's slump has dropped him down to .264 while Tebow sits at 47 points lower and the minor league season has less than two weeks left in it, I'd say putting your money on the football player from Florida would be a bad financial investment.

  16. The bad news ... - after his hot start following a promotion to the High-A FSL, Tebow is now 12 for his last 100 which has brought his A+ numbers down to right around where his Low-A stats were: .214/.290/.339 The good news ... Attendance is up!! Port St Lucie went from averaging 1,700 fans/game to over 2,400 since he joined the team to the point where the stadium has had to add ushers, ticket-takers, etc. He's creating jobs!!! (which is more than most politicians can claim) http://nypost.com/2017/08/28/tim-tebow-giving-mets-exactly-what-they-hoped-for/

  18. AAA park in Austin as well - although their team is at home for the weekend.
  19. And Tampa's just a two-plus hour flight from east Texas so there's that. Of course they're coming from the west coast before getting sent right back out there without actually ever going home in between. In all this will keep them on the road -- even if not technically the road team -- from last Friday (25th) thru Sept 14th. By the 15th, their next scheduled home game, the town might even be dried out. Almost as bad as the time the (1988?) Republican convention in the Astrodome kept them on the road for nearly a month. oe: it was '92 No home games between July 26 and Aug 23 From the 27th thru Aug 22 they went from Atlanta to Cincy to LA to SD to SF to Chicago to StL to Philly went 12 - 14 during that stretch, 81-81 for the year
  20. G-Fafif wrote: Mets seem unlikely to host the next series because the Astros have to be in Seattle for a Labor Day afternoon game, so St. Pete may be where they head after Cincinnati. Very much a stay-tuned situation. St Pete, not being any closer to Seattle than NYC, seems to make that an odd choice. Going east coast to west coast suxx no matter where you're starting, but at least for the Astros it'll be day game to day game after the travel rather than the dreaded DGANG with a cross country trip thrown in. The Astros sked was already in a fucked up part having sent them from home, to LAA for 3, then right back home for 6 before heading to Seattle for the start of a ten-game/eleven-day west coast trip which includes Anaheim a second time in two weeks. Such is the life in the reconfigured AL West which is so much more spread out than any of the other divisions.
  21. NYM bats need to do much against doo little
  22. Now isn't that better than a bunt, Juan?
  23. Chad Ochoseis wrote: Nationally televised game, so no MLB feed for me or, I assume, for the other out-of-towners. Yeah, Sunday night games are exclusive so it's ESPN or nothing (or radio). So why wasn't that last play obstruction on Taylor walking right in front of Plawecki as he tried to throw to 2nd? Neither the announcers (big surprise!) nor Terry brought it up.
  24. Dodgers lost their weekend series with the Brewers 1-2, their first series loss since sometime in June. Things brings them all the way down to 91-38, or a .705 winning pct, on pace for 114.3 wins this season btw, they won exactly 91 games all of last season Now 33 games remaining - they'll need to go 9 - 24 to win 100 - 18 - 15 to win 109 - and no worse than 26 - 7 to set a new season win record Prior to this weekend, the only game they lost during the week was the one where they threw a no-hitter
  25. As mentioned during the first game, the Nats were planning on the night-cap being Scherzer's return but have instead delayed that until tomorrow (vs Miami) so we get to face Tanner Roark who was originally supposed to start the early game.
