  1. I haven't seen that shoulder patch up close yet, but from a distance it looks like a baseball version of the Evolution Progression - y'know, where the monkey marches towards being a man.
  2. 48th in the 1st inning tonight. On pace for 62 By month Apr = 7 May = 7 June = 7 July = 12 Aug = 15 !! (and 6-1/2 games still to go)

  4. Miguel Cabrera (Det) - 7 games (P) Alex Wilson - 4 games Mgr. Brad Ausmus - 1 game Gary Sanchez (MFY) - 4 games Austin Romine - 2 games Cabrera for starting things; Wilson and Ausmus for Wilson hitting Todd Frazier after all were warned; Romine for returning Cabrera's fists; Sanchez for throwing various punches around the perimeter. Nothing for Betances?!?
  5. Those guys Andrew Stevenson - RF Who? -- 25 y/o BL/TL 2nd round draft pick in 2015 out of LSU. 39 ML ABs so far Adrian Sanchez - 3B Who? -- 27 y/o Venezuelan rookie. 43 ML ABs so far. Daniel Murphy - 2B -- Him we've met. Adam Lind - 1B -- Backs up Zimmerman Wilmer Difo - SS -- Got ML cups-a-coffee in 2015 & '16. Injuries to others have awarded him with some 250 ABs this year. Michael A. Taylor - CF -- Not sure why he insists that the A. be in there all the time Alejandro De Aza - LF -- Yeah, that one. Jose Lobaton - C -- Weiters' backup AJ Cole - P -- The Nats drafted him (4th round) in 2010, then they traded him away (for Gio Gonzalez) in 2011, then they got him back a year later. This will be his 5th ML start this year. All those Cole trades involved Oakland of course as those teams are contractually required to make at least three deals per season that tilt in Washington's favor. Zimmerman, Rendon, & Weiters are not, to my knowledge anyway, injured at this point. Probably just getting a deGrom day off so they can feast on the low hanging fruit during the remainder of the series.
  6. So according to a whole host of people, some of whom are doctors, some of whom are not, some of whom have spoken to doctors but none of which have actually examined Conforto, this could either be a long rehab or a shorter one depending on things we don't know yet and aren't going to know because none of those commenting on these things are going to examine Conforto. But we'll be back to bring you more details as they remain unavailable.

  8. seawolf17 wrote: Other teammates Kevin McReynolds (6th) and Daryl Boston (7th) in that draft too. And in the midst of all that, the Mets used the 4th overall pick on OF Terry Blocker who went on to have 244 ML ABs, 15 of them with the Mets. I looked all this up because Ronnie brought up the story a couple nights ago I have never heard, namely that the Mariners, picking first that year, approached Darling with the proposal to use that pick on him if he pre-agreed to sign for a particular amount. Ron declined and so the M's wound up using the selection on a different college right-handed, Mike Moore out of Oral Roberts, leaving Darling for the Rangers eight picks later and we all know the rest. Moore actually went on to have a career fairly similar (even if much more anonymous) to Darling's - accumulating more career WAR (28.5 vs 20.2 acc to BB-Ref) due mostly it seems to Moore virtually never missing a start for over a ten year stretch and therefore appearing in some 75 mo(o)re games. In all, five of the first nine picks that year wound up as Mets at some point in their careers, in addition to the later choices mentioned above 1 - Moore 2 - Joe Carter (Cubs) 3 - Dick Schofield (Angels) but later a NYM in 1992 4 - Blocker 5 - Matt Williams (Blue Jays) no, not that one, a pitcher from Rice U who wound up with 10 careers ML games 6 - McReynolds (Padres) 7 - Boston (White Sox) 8 - Bob Meachum (StL - but traded to the Yanquis where he'd play SS for parts of six seasons) 9 - Darling Other NYM draftees from that year to become Mets at some point in their careers: John Christensen (38th overall), Mark Carreon (185), Lenny Dykstra (315), and Lou Thornton (471st -- although not before going through several other teams first then coming back to the Mets to end his career in '89-'90 with a total of 13 ABs and a couple of pinch-running appearances)
  9. Even before an extra game was added on to this weekend series due to an early season rainout, this was a series that a lot of fans had circled on their calendars which only goes to show that God hates those who circles dates on calendars. I mean, other than the fact that the Mets couldn't win the division even if everything broke right from here on out and the Nats couldn't lose the division if everything broke wrong, it's also a series that'll be missing: Granderson, Conforto, Bruce, Duda, Syndergaard, Wheeler, Harvey, Reed, Matz, Reyes, Walker, and Lugo just to name a few … but not Jeurys Familia!, so there’s that. On the other side, there'll be no Bryce Harper, Jayson Werth, Adam Eaton, Trea Turner, Max Scherzer, Brian Goodwin, Steven Drew, Joe Ross, or relievers Koda Glover, Ryan Madson, and Enny Romero Steven Strasburg is just back from the DL but he pitched on Thursday so we'll miss him as well. But despite all those losses, the Nats are in 1st place by 13.5 games at 75-49, are 28-16 since July 1st, and are coming off taking 2 of 3 in Houston where they got out of town just ahead of the hurricane. Mets now have the worst record in all of baseball in August (7-16) and 7th worst overall for those of you looking at draft positioning. Friday 7:05: deGrom vs AJ Cole Saturday 4:05: Gsellman vs Gio Gonzalez Sunday 1:35: TBD vs Tanner Roark Sunday 8:08: TBD vs TBD I bet ESPN is glad they grabbed THIS game. Oh well, it'll just give them more time to discuss the goofy uniform gimmick for the weekend, the Little League World Series (which they wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole if not for the fact that they own it), the McGregor/Mayfield debacle, and of course their upcoming football schedule. Seth Lugo is in line to start one of the Sunday games if his health checks out. Tommy Milone might be the other although if you’ve got the afternoon free you may want to put in an application …. it can’t hurt.
  10. Maybe worse than Betances -- and quite possibly deserving of a longer suspension -- was C/DH Gary Sanchez sucker punching at least two different Tigers while they were pinned-down on the bottom of various piles during the fracas. Both were caught quite clearly on camera.
  11. Mets blog (although they don't say where they go the info from): Conforto has had the same type of injury in the past, according to manager Terry Collins ... [the] X-rays following the game that turned out to be negative. However, an MRI revealed a tear in the posterior capsule in his shoulder. All treatment options are on the table, including surgery to repair the capsule ... Blue Jays OF (and former Met) Darrell Ceciliani suffered a similar injury on May 19 -- a partial dislocation of his left shoulder -- while hitting a home run. Ceciliani did not play in another game this season, undergoing season-ending surgery earlier this month.
  12. Well it's not like Wheeler and Pill and Matz were all declared out for the season this week ... oh wait!
  13. And as the game restarts the Yanx score 3 to tie it - would have been more but Upton robbed Hicks of a 3R HR. Then in the bottom 7 Bettances beans a Tiger in the head and gets tossed, and now Robertson hits another!! (in the hand) Cabrera & Romine and MFY reliever Kahn who threw behind Miggy were tossed in the first scrap. Girardi AND bench coach Thompson have been tossed (I think Horace Clark is running the team now). Now Bettances has been tossed and the Yanx have lost the DH because DH Sanchez had to replace Romine. And now the Tigers get a bases-clearing 2B so all the guys who got beaned just scored. 9-6, bottom 7, and this game probably still has another 2 hours to go. It's already at 3-1/2
  14. THIS is the game where we don't get tack-on 9th inning runs.
  15. Yanx & Tigers exchange punches in Detroit. Miggy Cabrera & MFY catcher Romine seem to be the combatants, but it apparently started over HBPs and brushbacks from earlier. Tigers have been clobbered in two straight but are leading 6-3 as things erupted.

  17. Not a bad inning for Montero despite the two runs: legit single, fluke single, misplayed bunt, single up the middle, then a medium Sac Fly w/a weak throw iow, unlike past outings, Rafael didn't panic, or start to nibble, or go into a shell
  18. One-time teammates -- Ron Darling, Frank Viola, Sid Fernandez, and David Cone -- were all drafted in the first three rounds of the same draft class (1981) RD = 9th overall by Texas FV = 37th - Twins SF = 73rd - Dodgers DC = 74th - Royals
  19. Second no-hitter broken up with a solo HR in the last 15 hours or so. This one was not quite as dramatic as last night's, but we'll take it anyway.
  20. G. BLANCO - LF MARTE - SS LAMB - 3B GOLDSCHMIDT - 1B MARTINEZ - RF DRURY - 2B FUENTES - CF HERRMANN - C RAY - P LAGARES - CF CONFORTO - RF CESPEDES - LF FLORES - 3B ROSARIO - SS SMITH - 1B PLAWECKI - C CECCHINI - 2B MONTERO - P
  21. Man that Josh Harrison HR was mere inches over the glove of a flying, leaping Curtis Granderson down in the LF corner.
  22. A couple of good games all around, but Nimmo & Seawald were the heroes tonight.
