  1. 7 LOBsters thru 6 innings for Cleveland (on 2-of-9 w/RiSP) Seems more like 17
  2. Bruce 4 - Yanx 0
  3. These AL playoffs are being brought to us by DOOSAN I have no idea who/what DOOSAN is.
  4. The Native Americans are leaving opportunities all over the field, which leaves me with the suspicion that the Yanx are going to get two dribblers and a blast and negate the whole thing. Sonny Gray looks like he's a chore to catch (even if you don't have a defensively challenged catcher like Sanchez) and I know he's a chore to watch.
  5. He probably had a two-for-one coupon from the hospital so he wanted to redeem it before it expired.
  6. Chris Sale -- 7 runs on 9 hits over 5 Innings -- joined the parade of under-performing aces in these early playoffs. Verlander is so far the only starter out of the first three games to come out with any glory as he lasted 6 innings while holding the BoSox to 2 runs / 6 hits / 2 walks 8 - 2 Astros in the 8th
  7. I trust that Bauer has been kept away from his drone collection this week.
  8. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Hey, are we going to see Pete Rose in this game? He's not dead, but ineligible for other reasons. I never promised you a Rose pardon.
  9. Lee Elia, if only to hear him rant against our fans.
  10. Ron Washington is currently 3rd base coaching in Atlanta, they just hired him last off season. And while I wouldn't want him as my manager (I seem to remember a lot of kooky WS decisions and actions) he has a great reputation -- and not merely as portrayed on the silver screen -- as a running coach and particularly as a defensive guru for infielders. Think this team couldn't use one of those right about now? Like I said he's 3rd base coaching right now and, seeing as how Sherlock is the one guy they're retaining, he's probably not gettable out of his current slot unless he could be sold on the idea that a bench coach position would be an upgrade.
  11. Final tally: 19 runs on 30 hits with only 5 walks. 14 pitchers were used, nine of which gave up at least one run and four of the five who didn't only pitched a portion of an inning. The DBacks hit four triples including two of the 2-RBI/2-out variety, one of those, as mentioned above, by reliever Archie Bradley who was 6-for-61 (all singles) as a hitter in his career. What a glorious mess.

  13. Colorado almost heard their Valaika ringing out. That would have kept their comrades warm. Game now in the hands of the two closers: Holland in for the Rox trying to get through bottom 8, the crooked hat warming in the pen for the Snakes.
  14. So with their former 6 run edge down to a single run, DBacks reliever Archie Bradley is allowed to bat for himself with two out and two on in the 7th ... and he triples in both runners off Pat Neshak. TBS announcer Ernie Johnson: "This could only happen in a Wild Card game!". No, Ernie, this could only happen in a National League Wild Card game.
  15. Ceetar wrote: was looking lite a rout but don't look now the Rockies are making a push. Greinke protecting a 6-run lead seemed like the safest bet in the world ... and then he can't get through the 4th inning!! So far the designated 'stud' pitchers for these one game showdowns have been less than impressive. Severino (NYY) 1/3 of an inning, 3 Runs allowed Santana (MIN) 2 innings, 4 runs Gray (COL) 1-1/3 IP, 4 runs on 7 hits Greinke (ARZ) 3-2/3 IP, 4 runs on 6 hits And now Arizona has gone to presumably their #2 starter, Robbie Ray, to get through the game or at least get them late into it still with the lead.
  16. MFS62 wrote: JD Martinez hit 29 homers in 62 games after joining Arizona mid year!!! According to ESPN radio, he hit 16 home runs in September, which tied the all time National League record held by ........... wait for it...... Ralph Kiner. But as Ralph would (and Did!) say, he set his mark in the days of the 154 game season.
  17. Mets Willets Point wrote: Kind of annoying that the start times for the ALDS are still TBD. You know they're just waiting for the Yankees to win so they can slot them into prime time for every game. And as predicted: The Red Sox @ Houston will get the early slot on Thursday (4:00) while the Yanx @ Cleveland gets the later time (7:30) and the situation is the same for Friday: 2:00 / 5:00 and again on Sunday: 2:30 / 7:30 and again for the Game Fours on Monday and Game Fives on Wednesday with exact start times for those days subject to 'if necessary' status. On the plus side, you wanted some daytime playoff action for your kid and some of it's even on a weekend!!
  18. One thing I suspect this game will do is stir up discussion from those who advocate something closer to the all-bullpen type of pitcher use in general. - The Yanqui starter went 1/3 of an inning with relievers then filling in for: 2, 3-1/3, 2-1/3, and 1 innings. In total the pen allowed just 1 run on 5 hits with 3 walks and [u:6t31g6mk]13 Ks[/u:6t31g6mk] Hard to know if Severino is going to be scarred for life by this but Girardi's quick hook certainly looks like the right call considering the circumstances. - The Twins starter lasted all of two innings while giving up 4 runs. His follow-up was more akin to a second starter than a true reliever who got tagged for 3 runs/5 hits over 3 IP. After that their actual pen then covered the remaining 3 innings: 1 run, 1 hit, 3 walks
  19. It was only after posting that that I realized the guy's name is spelled Hildenberger not Hindenberger, but I wasn't about the rescind the joke over such minor details. Plus I think he wound up as the only Minnesota pitcher who didn't crash and burn last night.
  20. Jon (not Sonny) Gray vs Zack Greinke The Snakes finished 6 games ahead of the Rox during the season but, unlike last night's contest where the home team was 6 games better, if the lower seeded team wins this one you won't hear cries that the format needs to be changed (retroactively if possible) to a best 2-of-3 Gotta figure that the Dodgers are loving that Greinke gets spent and probably reduced to just one game in the NLDS if Arizona advances - which of course is part of the purpose of going to this set-up with the two WC teams.
  21. This was an unusual game in that the pace actually picked up in the final few innings enabling the game to pull in at a breezy 3:51 (aka: right around midnight EDT) Usually it's all the late game pitching changes that slam the brakes on things once a game hits the 7th inning but here it wasn't like you could slow it down from its early pace. Also, while I assume the Yanx still did their 7th inning GBA thing, unlike the local channel, ESPN was under no strong-arm requirements to televise it and only then go to commercials so that break wound up taking less time than the usual MFY game.
  22. It sounds like from that article that at least one of the schemes was to spread out signing bonus money to a number of int'l players who are all connected to the same agent so that it doesn't look like they're busting the spending limits on any one of them but with the understanding that the agent then steers the majority of the cash to the two or three top players even though their 'paper bonus' remains low. Like I said, you put artificial limits on things and folks will devise ways to circumvent them.
  23. I hope this Hindenberger guy the Twins just brought in from the pen doesn't crash and burn.
  24. So the Twins are down by three with the game half over, are in a battle of bullpens, have their best two hitters out of the game/roster (Buxton & Sano), and haven't won a game in the bronx since Tom Kelly was their manager. But other than that it's lookin' good.
