  1. I see where David Price decides that he'll just continue to suck whenever he faces the Yanx. He did in Tampa and that trend didn't end when he went to the Sox. Tonight he coughed up 4 in the 1st and was gone before the 2nd even began.
  2. Braves win in 12. Nats back to .500 (6-6). Adam Eaton back to the DL
  3. Benjamin Grimm wrote: So now, each inning starts with a runner on second base and two out, right? Runners on 1st & 3rd actually. 2nd is where the beer keg goes ... Duh! oe: Although, as it turns out, the Braves are starting the top of the 12th with no outs and the bases loaded - although it's the result of 2 singles plus a walk.
  4. Braves brought a 1-run lead into the 9th, but the Nats tied it up (Matt Adams HR) They went ahead again in the 11th (Kurt Suzuki HR) but the Nats again tied it (Kendrick singled in Harper). So they're at 3-3 heading for the 12th Also a pretty significant brawl between SD and the Rox. So in case you were wondering whether Rox 3B Nelson Arenado is pro or anti getting drilled in the back, put him down in the 'anti' camp.
  5. Ceetar wrote: I didn't even realize it was his last season tbh and hadn't quite connected the 'season is probably over' bits. d'Arnaud is under team control through 2019. [crossed posts w/Grimm] TJS (if that's the ultimate route) isn't as long a recovery timespan for position players as it is for pitchers but it's probably longer for catchers than it is for most other positions. So while the surgery wouldn't necessarily kill the rest of 2018 plus all of '19, it could take things into 2019 which might be enough for the Mets to wave (or waive) bye-bye come this November. hell, we're probably lucky teams don't just DFA guys in this situation. Even if they could, they'd still have to pay his full freight for this year so there's simply no advantage to doing so now as opposed to later and certainly a downside if recovery is quicker than anticipated.
  6. Not sure what's worse, that a 6-year Met / promising player / former 1st round draft pick / major trade pick-up has quite possibly played his last game as a Met without ever had a full season under his belt, or that the news of a starting player being lost for maybe the season gets stuffed onto Page 4 of what's likely to be a season-long, 25-page, all-purpose thread? OK, it's definitely the former but the latter bothers me also.

  9. Our 'Pythagorean' RS/RA rate shows that our scoring & preventing runs pace pegs us as merely a 7-3 team rather than the grossly misleading 9-1 (funny what multiple 2-out Grand Slams in a 3-day span can accomplish). So the inevitable regression to mean means that, in the blink of an eye, we'll plummet down to a 113 win pace for the season. And furthermore, what the fuck is up with that scruff on Familia's jaw? It looks like he first got hit in the face by some random glue squirts before a fan blew some recently shedded dog fur in his direction. I'm thinking Portuguese Water Dog, although Black Lab is a strong possibility as well.
  10. Starting catcher Matt Weiters to be activated for Wednesday's day game vs Atlanta But in the meantime, they liked enough of what they saw of 3rd stringer Pedro Severino -- and why not? [.368 BA / 520 OBA] -- that they've designated Miguel Montero The now 34 y/o Montero had some good years in Arizona before things seemed to go south for him after being dealt north to Chicago The Nats chose him during the winter over Jose Lobaton who had been there for parts of four seasons but can currently be seen catching for Las Vegas. And now they've chosen someone else instead of Montero. Going 0-13 to start the season likely didn't help his case.
  11. So the 'Revised Edition' was the one they put out after they went to the replay review on that play at the plate?
  12. Never mind about Familia, is Blevins available for Bour's next go around?
  13. Is it true that Sandy summonsed Oswalt by calling the 1-800-Corey hotline?
  14. Whoa, 14-1 Sox after 6 !! How 'bout saving save some of those for the rest of the series?
  15. Two games of interest to us tonight: Sawx jump on Yanx early at Fenway in the first game of the season between those two clubs. 4-0 in bottom 4 in a matchup of Sale vs Severino Nats up 3-0 on Braves in the 5th. Strasburg vs Foltynewicz

  18. I had forgotten that catcher J. T. Realmuto (don't settle for a fake Muto) was still on this team, even though currently DL'd (freakin' WBC!) So he's a name we would have recognized.
  19. Caleb Smith sounds like an extra in the biopic on Brigham Young
  20. Edgy MD wrote: One thing about Coleman is that he missed most of his first two seasons with injuries. He had allegedly made some progress in the later stages of last season, but it looks like 2018 is his make-or-break year. We could send him to Binghamton except that he's being blocked there by frickin' Tebow.
  21. seawolf17 wrote: Mazzilli is 27 already. And Coleman not quite 23, drafted out of a Texas HS in the 11th round in 2013. But spending the entire season *four years later* with Staten Island in the NY-Penn League doesn't indicate much promise.
  22. And besides, who doesn't love a baby wearing spikes?
  23. That's the second game in a row that I wouldn't put into the time capsule to represent a baseball game at its best ... but we'll take it.
  24. The Marlins have hit 3 HRs this year: 1 each for Rojas, Dietrich, and Anderson
  25. In this era where schedules are much tougher to make up than before, there are two day games scheduled for today and both are in Chicago: Cubs (their home opener) host the Pirates; and the White Sox, who have yet to play on the road, are hosting Tampa And now for the weird part: The Sox/Rays game is currently in the bottom of the 2nd; the Cubs game (six miles north) has been rained/snowed out.
