Looked as though he didn't intend to hit the ground as a changed directions and that slowed him up. Also seemed like if he kept running to 3rd they'd have had little chance to stop him It clearly looked to me that he got a stop signal from Sherlock. No angle that I saw showed Sherlock but Asdrubal saw something before using a slide nearly half way to 3rd to stop himself in order to get back. Not the greatest night of 3rd base coaching ever (several other incidents mentioned earlier in the IGT). Making the 3rd out at 3rd base wouldn't have been the worst move ever in this case and, like Edgy says, I don't think there's even a throw (IIRC, the Braves botched the relay anyway). Just seemed like an odd time for Sherlock to get conservative considering how aggressive he's been otherwise.
  2. Fuck Suzuki!!! Oh wait, wrong one ... nevermind

The 3rd one must have been a pickoff then, because the two by Nido were the first two times in 2018 that a Mets catcher gunned down a runner, as per Gary & Ron. I saw stat a few days ago about opponents being 21 of 22 (or something similar) vs the Mets so I was going off of that, but I don't remember the circumstances of that one so, yeah, it was probably something other than catcher-to-second.
  4. Fman99 wrote: Cabrera missing the tag on the Cespedes throw hurt. That's the difference right now. Otherwise it's still 3-2. Yup. Wilmer getting thrown out at 2nd when the ball caromed directly to Markakis in RF and then Markakis NOT being thrown out two innings later despite the shown beating him.

  6. Wilmer is a thrown-out-at-3rd away from being thrown out for the cycle tonight. - he grounded out in his first AB (out at 1st), was tossed trying to stretch into a double in the 4th (2nd), and later tagged out trying to score on Bruce's bloop (home plate)
  7. Now THAT was a throw! Haven't seen that from behind the NYM plate in a long while.
  8. Rockin' Doc wrote: It seems that virtually the entire Atlanta line up is hitting .300 or better for the season. And a couple of them are over .500 when hitting w/RiSP!! That certainly won't last, and neither will at least some of these .300+ BAs -- I mean, Ryan Flaherty is a .222 career hitter for crissakes (more than 1,100 ABs) yet is currently leading the league in hitting.
  9. Scherzer vs Kershaw out in LA tonight -- although the two clubs with NL-best records last season are under .500 so far this year.
  10. This send (of Flores) by Sherlock wasn't as bad given the situation [2 outs, lower part of the lineup coming up] but was another where even a halfway decent throw gets him. This throw wasn't even mediocre but got him anyway (albeit by an eyelash). It's tough to count on poor throws all the time. And isn't this the second time this week that Wilmer has been thrown out at the plate?
  11. Rockin' Doc wrote: The bottom of the order comes through for the gets the Mets. Nido singles, then scores when Rosario doubles. Nido had to wait to see if that ball cleared the OF before taking off -- you could see via one angle that Rosario was around 1st before Nido even reached 2nd -- but that didn't stop 3B coach Glenn Sherlock from waving Nido in anyway. As it turned out, the relay got away which both allowed him to score w/o a throw and for Rosario to reach 3rd ... which was a good thing because Nido would have been cooked otherwise. I consider that send a mistake on Sherlock's part even though it all worked out in the end.
  12. Edgy MD wrote: I like how the names gradually shrink in length as the lineup progresses. Replace Syndergaard with, say, Jeff Tam, and Rosario with Chin-lung Hu, and we could have a vanishing point. That sounds like something Tim Kurkjian would notice ... and then go research to see if it ever actually happened and if so how often and when was the most recent time. And speaking of lineup patterns, to the best of my knowledge no one has yet tried to hang the moniker 'The Killer Cees' on the top of ours ... something for which I am quite grateful.
  13. I think my lifetime IGT winning pct. is just a shade higher than Reyes's current batting average and my lengthiest winning streak ever peaked at around one, but nobody else has started one so here goes starting with the NYM lineup vs the 2nd year lefty Sean Newcomb Mets: CONFORTO - CF CESPEDES - LF CABRERA - 2B FRAZIER - 3B FLORES - 1B BRUCE - RF NIDO - C SYNDERGAARD - P ROSARIO - SS INCIARTE - CF ALBIES - 2B FREEMAN - 1B MARKAKIS - RF SUZUKI - C TUCKER - LF SWANSON - SS FLAHERTY - 3B NEWCOMB - P Newcomb was a former 1st round draft pick (15th overall) by Anaheim back in 2014 out of the University of ESPN (aka: U of Hartford). He was dealt to Atlanta in the Andreton Simmons deal. Simmons, btw, has been upping his hitting since heading west and now possesses an above stick to go along with his platinum glove collection. Overall Newcomb is 5-10 to date in his short career (1-1 this season) with a 4.22 ERA in 22 starts since making his ML debut with the Braves last June in a game vs the Mets. The Mets won that one then wound up splitting the games in his other two starts later in 2017.
  14. So when we (and be 'we' I mean CF) declared that Granderson sucked it seemed to turn him around and made him good. So will this thread make his suck for the remainder of the year? Hope not. Toronto is off to a good start and are in the midst of a series w/the Yanx.
  15. d'Kong76 wrote: TBD = RHP Matt Wisler from Triple-A Gwinnett Wisler has faced the Mets ten times previously (6 starts) including five time in 2017 - so this isn't some unknown quantity here. Overall he's 3-2 with a 3.66 ERA and 1.24 WHiP
  16. Willie's one and only job came right on the verge of the sabermetric era (not its existence but its more universal adoption by ML teams) which is something he seemed ill prepared for and is probably seen as too old to change. Younger and smarter is the current wave while older guys who want to run the game the same way they played it (1st inning bunting) and think the right attitude will get them through (I've been a winner all my life) probably aren't on the rolodexes (see what I did there?) of GMs and club Prez's
  17. A 3-14 record and a league worst -46 run differential earned Reds manager Bryan Price the honor of the year's first firing. Jm Riggleman, whose last managing job had him telling the Nationals he wanted a longer term contract or he'd walk ... he walked, is the new interim skipper. 18. For the most part the starters haven't deserved to go much longer than they have. Either they've been bad (Harv & Matz mostly), or inefficient by throwing decent outings but needing 95 pitches just to get thru 5 (Syndergaard for example), or sometimes both. And there have been close games where PH's are needed. And it's been cold and it's early, yadda yadda. I'd like to see them go a bit further, but first they need to show they can. On Monday, Mickey didn't pull deGrom until deGrom started to get into trouble in the 8th and even then the biggest problem was having 5 consecutive relievers (or was it 6?) all fail in their roles, and not in pre-designated roles but the roles they were assigned that night. And there was some shit luck involved as well.
  19. Four Game Series in Atlanta: April 19-22 Braves (10-7) spent most of the early the season leading the NL in run scoring although have now slipped to 2nd place behind the Pirates. Are tied for 4th best at preventing runs. 1B - Freddie (aka: FFF) -- he left Wednesday night's game after taking one off the wrist but has apparently passed all the tests and been cleared to play 2B - Ozzie Albies -- one of the top prospects coming into the year looks to be the real deal early on: .307/.333/[u:w1jjeexl].640[/u:w1jjeexl]. 14 of his 23 hits have been for XB SS - Dansby Swanson -- .358/.394/.582 ... seems to be over his 2nd year slump which landed him back in the minors in 2017 3B - Ryan Flaherty -- the career .222 hitting ex-Oriole is stroking .365/.450/.500 so far as a Brave, although yesterday they signed Jose Bautista with the strict intention of playing him at 3rd base after some minor league time LF - Preston Tucker [.271/.321/.500] first time w/Braves after spending some time w/Houston in 2015-16 CF - Ender Inciarte -- great fielder, not hitting yet [.232/.280/.261] RF - Nick Markakis -- still only 34, seems much older [.279/.372/.412] C - Kurt Suzuki backed by non-hitting Carlos Perez now that Tyler Flowers is on the DL Thursday - 7:35 (remember those later starting times) Matt Harvey vs Matt Wisler (1st start of year) Friday - 7:35 Syndergaard vs Sean Newcomb (L) Saturday - 7:05 deGrom vs Julio Teheran Sunday - 1:35 Zack Wheeler vs TBA
  20. This is like last year when we got Anthony Rendon out of his April funk in that (23-6?) game, the same one which took out Syndergaard. Zimmerman looked dead in the water prior to his big hit last night and now his 2 HRs today.

  22. And at least we EARNED our comeback as opposed to their comeback Monday night which we pretty much handed to them (and Gary says pretty much the same thing as I'm typing).

  25. Still can't get a runner in from 3rd w/<2 outs. That's been a week-long thing now.
