  1. SEVEN (on about 80 pitches) Wonder if his manager will pull him? After all, you don't want to push him and possibly shorten his career!
  2. Frayed Knot wrote: Verlander countering with a 1-hit/1-walk 5 innings of his own, but that one hit was a solo HR Oh yeah, and ESPN half-missed that HR (the only hit of the game so far) because they were busy running one of their pre-taped segments. Eh, that's all right, you don't tune in to watch a baseball game anyway, you tune in to watch ESPN and to see ESPN people do ESPN things and cross-promote other ESPN projects. Big Bart = perfect thru 6
  3. Verlander countering with a 1-hit/1-walk 5 innings of his own, but that one hit was a solo HR
  4. I thought Wilmer's ball was a double off the bat. No way did I think he hit it well enough to get out, particularly in this weather, but that boy do hit the ball hard at times.
  5. Lefty Specialist wrote: So, at what point do you cut bait on Reyes? He just looks awful. If it wasn't for him hitting .288/.356/.472 during the second half last year then the leash would be considerably shorter.
  6. Maybe they should make a rule where, on Jackie Robinson Day, one player from each team is required to attempt a steal of home.
  7. Edgy MD wrote: Oh, Bandy is still in the game. Yeah, it was Counsell who was tossed. That Blevins/Shaw matchup was the AB of the game so far.
  8. Be interesting to hear what Mickey has to say about his 5th/6th inning moves. I would have left Nido in to hit for a whole variety of reasons most of which already mentioned above and/or by Gary & Ron.
  9. It's a shame that Rachel Robinson looks every bit of her 67 years old.
  10. Edgy MD wrote: Fray looks hurt. A little sore, but am otherwise OK.
  11. Second Series Preview: April 16-18, CitiField Nats at 7-9 (and, as noted above, that's after starting 4-0) with a -4 Run differential [67 RS / 71 RA] on the season to date. Still missing Murphy. Also now have Adam Easton on the DL, and Anthony Rendon hasn't played in three games after fouling one off his toe. Matt Weiters is back after missing the first series but we'll miss both Scherzer & Strasburg here. Hitting: backup catcher Pedro Severino (though his playing time is now cut), 2B Howie Kendrick, Harper (MLB-leading 7 HRs) and Rendon Not so much: Trea Turner, Ryan Zimmerman, CF Michael Taylor [382 OPS!], or Weiters (small sample) Monday: Jeremy Hellickson vs deGrom Hellickson was picked up by the Nats late in ST after being dropped by the Orioles at the end of last year. Doesn't look like he's even pitched in any minor league games yet. Wasn't any good last year w/either the O's or Phils deGrom went 6 vs Nats in the first series allowing 2 runs (1 earned) Tuesday: Gio Gonzalez vs Wheeler GG is career 14-5 / 2.88 ERA / 1.14 WHIP in 24 starts vs the Mets (as opposed to 3.62 / 1.30 overall). He'll still sometimes take a thousand pitches to get thru 4 innings though (like Wheeler doesn't!!) Wednesday: Tanner Roark vs Matz We got to Roark for 5 earned thru 5 in the first series. Matz went 5 allowing only 1 unearned in his Nats start.
  12. Cloudy / Windy (20 mph) / 41 But the rain is expected to hold off until 4, so they have incentive to get the thing started on time and over with as quickly as possible. Games already canceled today in Cleveland vs TOR, Minneapolis vs CWS, Chicago vs Braves. And also in Detroit where the afternoon half of a scheduled split DH is a makeup of yesterday's washout vs the Yanx and is itself now a washout. The second half of the DH appears to be in limbo for now.
  13. That's 34 batters faced for this Hader guy this season: 2 Hits, 3 BB, 22 K
  14. The Royals & Angels are currently playing through falling snow in KC.
  15. Frayed Knot wrote: 3 ups to get 3 (or more) runs .... pffft, piece o' cake! Especially so when the opposing manager goes and gets the dominant starter (who had thrown fewer than six innings worth of pitches) with 8 outs still to go on a team minus its closer.
  16. 3 ups to get 3 (or more) runs .... pffft, piece o' cake!
  17. They lucked out with the weather tonight in what will be their only home Sat night start of April (on the road the next two weeks). And it's fireworks tonight. Absent those two conditions and they could have drawn -- and deserved -- 10K or less.
  18. That bases loaded situation was followed up with a bases-loaded walk, followed by a bases loaded (4 pitch) walk, then a pitching change which results in, not just a 1st pitch/wild-pitch, but a 1st pitch WP with two errors tacked which came thisclose to being a bases-clearing WP (Braves threw the ball to every point in the yard except to their own fielders) ... so it's safe to say that this one is getting away from the Braves. 14-10 Cubs as they head to the 9th.
  19. HahnSolo wrote: Don’t look now but the Braves are on their way to 9-5 record, leading the Cubs 10-3 in the seventh at Wrigley Except that that game, which had been 9-1, 10-2, and, as noted above, 10-3, is now 10-10 Cubs batting, bases loaded, two outs, bottom 8. Looks to be about 12 degrees at Wrigley ... but at least it's really windy.
  20. Yeah that's a big point. With Plawecki (hopefully) down for only a couple of weeks they don't necessarily need to find a starting catcher. If his prognosis was longer and/or if this were later in the season (like trade deadline time) then it's another story and you can sort out the ramifications later. Realmuto is a long term (almost 3 full years) solution. Doesn't mean you don't look into him but that's a different situation from just looking for someone to team up with Plaw

  22. Need Familia to be sharp tonight. Not just because of the obvious one run lead but because we've already run through most of the pen.
  23. So in scanning MLB.com for scores of other games I discovered that my telecast is several seconds behind the site's updates when the box of this game listed it as 6-5. Wait a minute, I thought, this game is only six to fou ... Oh.
  24. Cain wasn't able.
