  1. The Tuesday DH is a 5:10 start ... which means there's little chance of it being over prior to midnight. As Robert Griffin III once said: 'All in for Game One'
  2. The Dodger in slot #1 looks like Pedro Martinez because it's Ramon Martinez. Now is that Scott Schoenweiss behind door #9?
  3. Since you can't have players in uniform or in the clubhouse over the (26?, 28?) roster limit, as these DH's pile up (particularly the ones in NYC) both the Yanx & Mets should just have the remainder of their 60 man alternates sitting up in the stands amongst the cardboard cut-outs. Then, after Game 1 of a DH, they simply send five or so guys from the dugout to the stands and bring five guys down from the stands to replace them. And then do the same for Game 1 the next day and then again between games of that DH.
  4. Kobe, at the time of the slur, was fined by, I believe the league rather than the team, and not suspended by either.
  5. Lots of tributes to Kobe Bryant today on what would have been his birthday with probably no mentions of his in-game/on-court gay slur towards a ref near the tail-end of his career. Outrage in these sorts of cases can be ... let's say selective.
  6. Remember when the Mets went -- what was it?, like a season and a half -- without hitting a Grand Slam? Well the Padres have six this season so far including five this week. They've also won 7 straight and are 18-12 Also, remember when the '86 Mets beat the Pirates in 17 of 18? Well the Tigers beat the Indians on Saturday after losing to them 20 straight times dating back to early last season. They were 1-18 last year and started 0-4 this season. They're now 2-4 after winning again on Sunday. Strasburg to undergo season ending wrist surgery this week. Hunter Pence DFA'd by the Giants. Was hitting under .100
  7. I'm pretty sure that if they were going to be playing on Monday we would have heard about it by now. On the other hand, it's not like ticket holders have to make plans in advance.
  8. Tampa, who are in first place in the AL East as of this writing and who use the concept of an 'Opener' more than probably any other team, have ten saves in their 18 wins so far this season and have those ten saves split among seven different pitchers with no "closer" having more than three: 3, 2, and five with 1
  9. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: =Theoldmole post_id=44377 time=1598032744 user_id=77] Do we know yet who the afflicted parties are? My guess: Hef and Familia
  10. At the same time, it's almost impossible to keep such stuff secret: 'The Mets have announced that [Fill in Name] will not be available for the upcoming series. The team stresses that there was no injury involved and that he is not on the standard 10-day IL, only that he is likely to miss a "couple of games" before hopefully returning later in the week. Oh yeah, and there will be a temporary 1st base coach for the next few days.' Gee ... I wonder what the problem with those two could be?!?
  11. I dunno, the stories I've heard about Altoona ...
  12. So when are we going to get to find out what 'Fag Capital' he's talking about? I mean, some people might want to make plans, either towards or away from, said city based on Brennermann's recommendations.
  13. Phils have already lost today, one of those [CROSSOUT]softball[/CROSSOUT] seven-inning games up in Buffalo with another still to play. I was thinking the other day that with the Cardinals scheduled to play something like 15 DHs this year, that's 60-something, or about 11%, fewer innings they're going to play off of a schedule that was already shortened by around 63%. Talk about having a pitching staff well rested for the stretch drive / post-season.
  14. Tampa leads the Yanx 8-5 in the 7th as they try to complete the three-game sweep up in the Bronx and make it 6 of 7 over the pin-stripers overall for the season. A win will also leapfrog them into 1st place in the AL East with the teams currently at 16-8 and 16-9, which means that the Yanx are basically undefeated in the rest of the games they've played: Braves 2-0; Orioles 2-0; BoSox 7-0; Phils 2-2; Nats 2-1 Winning the division, particularly if it comes because they put such a head-to-head beating on the Yanx, would be a big psychological boost for the Rays, but the downside to all the 'Expanded Playoffs' mania is the actual benefit will be almost non-existent. Both teams would have to totally crater in order to miss a playoff slot so the fight is merely over seeding which is either no edge at all or one so slight that it's not even measurable. As to what kind of affect getting swept means to the Yanx as they cross over into Queens for this weekend's set is anyone's guess. Score remains 8-5 as they move to the 8th
  15. Remember that first pitch is at 1810 EDT!! I don't want to hear any crying for those of you who tune in at 1910 and wonder why it's in the 3rd inning already. Actually an hour into a game these days means it'll be more like top of the 2nd inning but you get the point. And it'll be the return of Seth Lugo to the rotation. June 25th 2018 was his last ML start, one of five he made that season: 4 innings, 6, 5, 3, and 5 ... and the Mets lost four of those. He was last a full time starter (19 games / 18 starts) in 2017 This change is likely permanent ... right up until it isn't. The Marlins counter with lefty Daniel Castano who made his ML day-butte against the Mets on Aug 8. NYM bats hit him up for 5 runs (4 ER) in 4.1 IP as Mikey and Petey both went deep. He was considerably better in his second outing vs the Braves [1 ER over 6] though the Fish lost the game.
  16. =MFS62 post_id=44291 time=1597928850 user_id=60] It takes a certain kind of person to work for FOX.
  17. Now THAT is how you 'Vulture' a win: walk the tying run in then strike out the next four hitters after your RF'er has handed you the lead.
  18. =Methead post_id=44260 time=1597889815 user_id=61] Great call by Ronnie there.
  19. The Marlins meanwhile have NO hits to drive in runs. They've scored on a Wild Pitch, a HBP, and a bases-loaded walk
  20. HBPs, Wild Pitches, 4-pitch walks, 2-strike meatballs ... they're just gifting the Marlins this game. Oh yeah, and another 2-fer-9 w/RiSP
  21. I see us losing this game by like 5 runs.
  22. =kcmets post_id=44244 time=1597888986 user_id=53] Diaz coming in, gonna put another bra on my head.
  23. Bad relief pitching (and some bad luck) exacerbated by the fact that we had two ABs w/bases loaded in the top of the inning and couldn't get a ball out of the infield ... AGAIN!!!
  24. And yet one more grounder that wasn't GiDP worthy. It would have ended the inning had it been. Instead we have the tying runs in scoring position and Cervelli up.
  25. Nimmo hunts walks too often.
