  1. Meanwhile, as we wait out our off day, the Nats are getting their ass kicked by Pittsburgh (now a final), the Braves are down 7-zip to the Padres in the 6th, and the Sillies have already lost to Miami. So about as good as an off-day can get.
  2. 80 pitches is about average for 5-1/3 IP, and Kershaw was there thru 7 Now maybe his 2021 injuries cut back on his winter work and that, plus the lockout/shortened ST, put him behind the 8 ball and he really was OK with having his outing capped. Roberts has to answer for it and I'm sure he did.
  3. Edgy MD wrote: The weird thing is that, when pitch counts became of primary concern, "innings pitched" seemed to become more understood to be an artificial construct. What was an inning? It was three pitches to one pitcher and 40 to another. Definitely better to use total pitch count when judging how much work a twirler has done. But now, we'll use both/and. Whichever offers the first, best, and most convenient explanation for pulling a pitcher from a game. Well sure ... but there are also all those up/downs to consider.
  4. =kcmets post_id=89399 time=1649962190 user_id=53] ...and I can only remember one person called him Horrorwitz but that was a lifetime ago.
  5. The gift that never, EVER stops giving. This variation of the theme is from last night's 8th inning. [media=youtube]jjSCUhftEEM[/media]
  6. Kershaw said all the right things: was OK with the decision, hadn't even gone six innings in ST, missed all that time last year, already has a no-no (though not a perfecto) to his name, etc. Wonder what he'd say under truth serum?
  7. You can always check in on the Yanqui game [7 PM, MLBN] to see if Vladdy Jr. can drop three more bombs on the Yanx as he did last night.
  8. The Yanx lose. THAAAAAA Yanquis lose!!!! Blue Jays, perhaps a serious threat in the AL East this year, take two of three. Whoops, they still have one more on Thursday
  9. Willets Point wrote: And Jeter didn't dive into the stands to make the catch. That's another one that bugs me! Can't count how many times over the last 20 years I've seen a player ACTUALLY dive into the stands for a catch only to immediately hear, "Oooh, look at that, just like Jeter". No, Go watch the film Sparky. What you just saw was nothing like Jeter.
  10. Edgy MD wrote: And Bartman didn't reach across the railing. That one was at least borderline. The Maier thing has been replayed a few thousand times AND NOT ONE PERSON who speaks into a sports mic for a living seems to notice that HE DID NOT CATCH THE BALL. But they all say he did because I guess that makes the story better ... it also makes it wrong-er. The embarrassing here is that Gary is in that club too. 4:04 was your final game time.
  11. Gary,: "...but Jefferey [Maier] was able to catch it" NO! HE! DIDN'T! GARY Don't You go spreading the bullshit too! It went off his glove, then rolled down the aisle and was handed to him while the MFYs treated him like a hero for something which would have gotten him thrown out of the stadium had he done it in the other half inning.
  12. This game will easily top 4 hours ... even if nothing else starts to slide off the rails.
  13. It occurs to me that perhaps a Tom Seaver rotunda and a Jackie Robinson statue would have been the better way to go.
  14. Mets have at least a 50/50 shot at winning this game. If it ever actually ends that is.
  15. Dom looked like he wanted no part of that AB And with a volatile LHP throwing 100 following a HBP (retaliation?) the previous inning, can't say as how I blame him.
  16. The score here in the bottom of the 6th is 8-1, [CROSSOUT]8-3[/CROSSOUT], 8-1, 8-2, 8-3
  17. =whippoorwill post_id=89316 time=1649879856 user_id=79] Why oh why can't they pitch 7 innings?
  18. Vierling. Isn't that what they call a four year old deer in Germany?
  19. And the score is 8-1, [CROSSOUT]8-3[/CROSSOUT], 8-1, 8-2
  20. Key to the whole inning was Lindor hitting the grounder too slowly for the inning-ending GiDP. We already had two of those today but the inning lived allowing four runs to be tacked on.
  21. A mighty blow by Marte!! At least 45 mph off the bat.
  22. Nats win today in Atlanta, take two of three from Braves
  23. Too many aquatic fowl are being permitted to remain floating on small pools of water.
  24. This game might wind up being a day/night DH by itself. Two hours in and we're not done with the top 5th yet.
