  1. No runs on four hits over 13 innings against not exactly All-Star pitchers.
  2. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=94615 time=1654308933 user_id=68] Is that Meryl Streep in the front row?
  3. Phils respond to Girardi's canning by thrashing the Angels Ten - Zip ... but everyone thrashes the Angels lately (9 straight losses) Marcus Stroman has pitched well for the Cubs recently ... but got thumped by the Cards to the tune of 9 ER allowed in 4 innings. 14-5 was your final
  4. Wow! I guess he never should have let Harper and now Segura get hurt, or have signed all those terrible defensive players.
  5. Getting three-hit is disappointing fer sure. Ruined what was a more than decent performance from our hurlers. It's like Jake was out there.
  6. Jeez, Gosolin, trim the neck beard, huh.
  7. So I see Mary Hart in her usual spot. But who inherited Larry King's old seat?
  8. Edgy MD wrote: What the devil is on their left shoulders? June 2nd is the anniversary of the start of Lou Gehrig's streak so it has been designated by MLB as Lou/ALS day. All teams are wearing that patch today. btw, longtime baseball writer Tim Kurkjian recently announced that his older brother has been diagnosed with ALS
  9. But instead the Angles get swept, both in today's DH and in the three game series overall, scoring exactly one run in each of the three games.
  10. =roger_that post_id=94487 time=1654216599 user_id=128] This is a Ralph Houk model lineup. If your SS normally bats third, and he's out, then put your backup SS in the three hole.
  11. Yeah, the whole: 'the Mets never eat contracts while the Yanx eat them all the time' is said so often that it's probably assumed to be true by folks in eastern Ukraine ever though I'm sure they've got more meaningful things to worry about right now. The only problem with that well-worn bromide is that its complete opposite is actually closer to the truth. Can anyone actually tell me the last time the Yanx ate a contract because I honestly can't remember one? ... not in this century anyway*. They even had (off) Kei Igawa pitch four years in Scranton-Wilkes-Barre (that team should have so been called the Hyphens) rather than eat what remained of his deal. They paid him $20 million in total but I recall about half that was paid up front in the form of a signing bonus. It's like they were so pissed off at him for sucking -- it was the one mistake I ever remember Cashman owning up to botching -- that even after they realized he sucked (16 games total for the Yanx but only 2 after the first year) they refused to eat the final three years, even though only at about $2mil each, just to keep him from pitching in meaningful games with anyone. He eventually went back to Japan but only after they made him finish out his sentence by spending three-plus seasons commuting daily from Manhattan where he lived over to eastern PA (Really!). * I guess they sort of paid for ARod's finals season but that was some mutual agreement thing they worked out where I don't think the details were ever public.
  12. Ohtani suxx. There, I said it. In two career games against the Yanx (a couple years ago and just this afternoon) he's combined to serve up 11 Runs on 15 Hits, including 4 HRs & 5 BBs, in a combined 3-2/3 innings. But at least he has that special rule made just for him that when he exits the game he gets to remain as DH. That at least allowed him to get on base ... and promptly get picked off while down by six runs!!, y'know, the runs you gave up. 6-0 Yanx (4 solo HRs) with the game in the midst of their usual 10-minute* long 7th inning stretch. Fuck you and I hope we kick your ass next week**!! * truthfully clocked in at right around 4:00, which is still double what should be permitted. But George Steinbrenner liked to pretend he invented patriotism so a daily dog and pony show is for some reason allowed to ensue during each home game in the Bronx ** In a bad mood? Me? What makes you think that?
  13. Padres have indeed released Cano.
  14. Matt Carpenter, the now 36 y/o ex-Cardinal picked up by the Yanx as a minor league FA recently, is 3 for 14 since joining the team. All three hits are HRs
  15. Sunday is the only game I'm seeing in its entirety. I'll likely miss most if not all of the others.

  17. Some late night scores of interest: -- Phils lose to Giants in 11 This game was actually in Philly but took nearly 5 hours to play so it may as well have been out west -- Braves lose in Arizona in 10 after leading most of the game -- Marlins postponed in Colorado -- Dodgers lose 2nd straight to Pittsburgh
  18. It looks like the ruling on the runner hit by the ball is simply "put out" credited to the nearest infielder. Assumption being, I guess, that he would've been able to make a play on him. Oh that's definitely the correct scoring play when a baserunner is struck. The question is whether that particular play was ruled correctly. Gary was adamant that it wasn't on account of the batted ball having "passed" Pete prior to the runner being hit (and he was definitely drilled ... right in the chest). I wasn't so sure and neither the umps nor the Nats seemed to raise a peep. So theoretically a slapped ball towards the left-side hole hits a runner running on the pitch from 2nd while the 3Bman was playing in for a possible bunt. That ball would certainly have to be past him when it hit the runner even though the 3rd sacker had zero chance to field it. Last night that ball was definitely past Pete who dove for it but didn't come all that close to snagging it. I think the rule was created so as to not give credit to the defense after having whiffed on getting an out by fielding the ball, though the rule book section Edgy came up with is somewhat ambiguous.
  19. And now we know who the backup 1st baseman is: Mark Canha 118 games at 1B in his career, including 81 starts
  20. Tamp it down on the M-V-P chants in May, mm-Kay?

  22. Well past the two hour mark and not yet thru 5
  23. That rule book wording seems to support my interpretation that it's not as simply cut and dried as Gary's where the ball just needs to 'pass' an IF without regard as to whether or not the ball was field-able ... but it's not all that clear, is it.
  24. Kody Clemens, the youngest of Roger's four sons, makes his ML debut for the Tigers tonight at 2nd base.
