  1. Pitch clock -- it's time (no pun intended). Its use has knocked 20-30 minutes off of minor league games where it's been used. Now if they'd only listen to me and further reduce mound conferences and additional warmup pitches for incoming relievers they'd save even more dead time. Larger bases -- I'm pretty indifferent to this. There's nothing sacred about 15" bags so isn't like breaking a commandment. The idea is to make stolen bases slightly more tempting. Most likely no one will even notice the difference. Shift Ban -- I don't like it but, as mentioned above, it's only going to ban the more extreme shifts and maybe it encourages base hits over swinging for the fences alla time. Just thought of this: are there rules and regs as to how large the dirt area can be?
  2. Sure, but those other teams do represent our safety net so can't be totally ignored until those individual magic numbers are safely put to bed.
  3. Wainwright and Molina get their tie of the record for most starts pitcher/catcher combo (w/Lolich & Freehan) and Molina HR'd twice in honor of the occasion (his first HRs in months). But it didn't help enough as the Nats thumped StL 11-6 to get a split of the four game series. How 'bout those woeful Nats suddenly having a say in the NL pennant race?
  4. Rather than mass retirement a la Jackie's 42, I'd like to see each club reserve #21 for someone they deem worthy of the honor. Wouldn't have to be someone Puerto Rican or Hispanic though I suspect it often would be.
  5. 8/18 w/RiSP That certainly beats the recent games which seemed like about 1/30 but was probably less as we really didn't get that many runners on to begin with.
  6. FMan [from Game 1 thread]: "I'd be happier still if we could score runs via a series of sequential singles and doubles, instead of just taking 27 cracks at a dinger like they've been doing." Game 2: 10 runs on 17 hits thru 8 innings ... 0 HRs

  8. And for all of the "not vintage deGrom" talk: 4 innings, 0 runs, 2 hits (one soft, one kinda soft), 5 K, 0 BB w/a low pitch count (49 - more than 20% of which were to one batter). There's the tendency to not just hope for but epect near perfection. But not perfect is still real darn good. oe: one K and his first BB while I was typing
  9. Twins & Yanx both went scoreless in the 10th & 11th Twinkies finally pushed one across in top 12 Yanx then pushed across two. 5 - 4
  10. This is how we were scoring 'em early in the season. All that's missing is a bases loaded HBP
  11. =MFS62 post_id=106610 time=1662583680 user_id=60] I wonder how well that upcoming free agent would do in a major league ballpark.
  12. =MFS62 post_id=106603 time=1662580358 user_id=60] Minnesota has a 2-0 lead on the MFYs in the 3rd inning.
  13. That's a Spencer Strider game for the Braves The Voit dubble was the only hit he allowed but he also walked three and threw a ton of pitches.
  14. A bit disturbing in that, even with a win here, this only increases our innings-scored-in total from 3 to 5 over the past four games. That's still 31 blanks over the past 36, actually 38 going back to the previous game.
  15. How is Wilson still in this game? After his first inning (the 2nd) this game had 'rake the bullpen' written all over it.
  16. Well, if that's the worst of Bassitt for the day we'll take it. Still only an average pitch count thru 6 following a 28 pitch inning.
  17. I'll put it this way, it was the only call that would have kept me from blurring out: Joey, what the fuck were you thinking?!? Low pitch count (62) for Bassitt thru 5
  18. Cruz got the ball just as Esco was hitting 3rd. Now if he hadn't been braking he might have been two, maybe three strides past, meaning that the throw home would have reached the catcher with E.E. around the mid-point and not much more. It wasn't the smart call to hold him, it was the only call.
  19. So, in a nod to G & K's discussion about pitching roles, I guess the 'bulk' pitcher is the guy whose job it is to give up runs in bulk.
  20. Brutal loss for the Brewers in Colorado last night (the one positive outcome for the Mets on Tuesday). Up 6-1, they gave up 5 in the 8th (capped by a Randal Grichuk solo HR w/2 outs). Then, after scoring once in top 10 w/the clown car rules, they lost the lead on a solo run then lost the game on a 3R HR by ... Randal Grichuk. 10 - 7 was the final. Not going well for the Brews in the post-Josh Hader era ... but then it's not going well for Hader in SD either.
  21. Lefty Specialist wrote: Escobar would have been out by [CROSSOUT]20[/CROSSOUT] 75 feet had he tried Fixed it for you
  22. Escobar didn't have a .30% chance of scoring Cruz was receiving the relay right about as Escobar was reaching 3rd and he was maybe 40 feet behind 3rd base.
  23. 2 singles + 2 doubles = 1 run And so it goes
  24. We have entirely too much faith in the 'easy schedule' while trying to hold off a team that has a mostly favorable schedule themselves, is 10.5 games better since June 1, 3.5 better since August 1, and owns a better run differential [+155 vs +115] for the season.
